This build is designed to shorten the gap between you and everyone else, whilst applying utility to your abilities to allow you to hit that ever so damaging ult, all whilst keeping the tanky attributes often given to ymir. I warn you this is my first guide so it will most likely be bad, but please.. make of it what you will, and I hope it helps in some way.
This build is especially good when you begin to take advantage of ymir's passive early/mid game, using the slow from all abilities and the gem of isolation you can start clubbing people like there's no tomorrow and deal some decent damage.
Ice Wall:
Use Ymir's Ice wall to aid yourself and your team, you can also use the wall to escape or shut off members of the enemy team. The wall is best used when 'funneling' opponents into ideal positions for your team and to cut them off from any means of help/escape.
Glacial strike:
Ymir's glacial strike is very powerful, especially at the lower levels, this skill should be used to deal decent damage to the enemy team's squishier gods, it's found effective when combined with the ice breath to guarantee a successful hit on the opponent.
Frost breath:
Another one of Ymir's utility abilities, this skill can be very useful to shut members of the enemy team off and leave them as an easy target for your team to pick up the kill on. Best used to deal with the damage dealers on the enemy team, although can also be used as a form of escape or to save a team mate.
Shard of ice:
Ymir's ultimate is arguably to hardest of ultimate's to actually get decent hits with, the timing of the ult is key, and takes some getting used to, however if used in combination with the likes of Cupid/Hades/Odin/Artemis it can be very effective, it can also be effective mid fight when you know that the enemy team's escapes have been used to initiate the fight. When all else fails Ymir's ult can be used as a last ditched attempted to dish out some damage before you go down, as long as you give yourself enough time to cast it that is.

Why is it bad? Read Murrdurr's comment above.
really bad build. ymir is meant for tanking and taking huge damage to help his team with his amazing utility. his CC is amazing in this game so making him dps is really bad. i dont know why you have +1 votes. anyways this guide needs alot of fixes -1 sorry.
Sorry to say, but i agree with this! And a full tank Ymir can still do decent damage with his ultimate.
Murrdurr (top 20 on elo-list) here, 3.3k elo. I'm not in a top-team, but I've done high-elo ranked alot.
Why is this build bad?
Ymir is a utility-machine, you wanna be able to get in there, and tank EVERYTHING while being a pain in the *** with your freezes! Your build starts going defensive at your 4th item (not gonna count reinf boots) which means up til then you won't be able to do your job against good players in teamfights. They will check your build, and shred you when you get close. You want maximum defense.
Now, for your items specifically.
Fatalis - now the cd-reduction might help you throw those freezes more often, but as for using the items to boost your attack-damage? Bull****, your attackdamage is nonexistant compared to AD's, and nonexistant x 35% speed isn't worth it.
Gem if iso: You only have two skills now that will apply this (it only gets applied from damage-moves). Now, these two already slow, and by a big bit, so it's really not useful. If you wanna slow more? Get creeping curse and don't derp around with this item.
Void stone? Sure, you can get this if no-one else on your team builds it for the aura, or if you just need more magic defense. I'd rather get stone of gaia over it though, but if you need 2 magic def items get it.
Gauntlet of thebes is better if you get it earlier, as 5th item you might not be able to farm up the stacks due to lanes being pushed/buffs taken, and as ymir you want to support your team and not run around to solo-farm.
Rod of Tahuti is a strong item, but incredibly costful and you haven't even stacked that much magic-power in your build so it's not gonna give you the full boost from the passive.
As for the comment on Odin going AD.. well ****, he's not a pure utility machine like ymir, and is more of a bruiser so going offensive on odin with some voidblade for def is odin's preferred build.
EDIT: I'm not saying you can't build this... you can build this, but realize it's a trollbuild. ^_^
To OP; sorry if I sound harsh. Thanks for taking time to make the guide.
Down voting the guide and Ymir is not a magical god and can not really get away with magic. Gem of Iso is a poor choice due to the timeing of the gem and your skills.
Build ymir physical and if done correctly on an auto attack, yes an AUTO ATTACK, you can crit for 1.9k. Ymir may be labled as a tank, but I honestly see him as a bruiser, and a VERY powerful one if built correctly.
Looking at how the god is "supposed" to be built is never the correct way to go about it. You are thinking outside of the box and that is a plus, but you went the wrong direction without actually looking at his skills.
For this the guide gets my downvote.
Change it up, go physical and test that out, feel free to PM me if you need help with it. I can always then change the vote to the guide :)
Physical you say? Hmm, I'll give that a go.
I had trouble in the beginning, especially with Bast's ult, but it all started to even out once I got the isolation gem and heavenly agility. You can pound on mages, dash through them, slow them rise and repeat. This is a very very nice build. +1
17-2-17 Ymir Magic Carry, most fun I've ever had.
Yes Ymir can be built in many different ways, but building him as a tank really is the best role he can play. When built full tank you may not get loads of kills (A tank isnt suppost too) but you will not be killable. You'll be able to Stun, Slow and Block people off who try and kill you, or try to escape, or try to kill your team mates.
Dont go into a game trying to get tons of kills as Ymir, It's possible, but isnt the best benefit you give to your team.
You realize Ymir is physical right? http://smite.wikia.com/wiki/Ymir
Gem of Isolation, Void Stone and Rod of Tahuti are terrible choices as the +magical power would do nothing for you.
Switch Gem of Isolation to Frostbound Hammer.
Switch Void Stone to Voidblade.
Switch Rod of Tahuti to Executioner, Titan's Bane, Staff of Mana, Heartseeker, Soul Eater, Witch Stone, hell ANYTHING with +Physical Power, Attack Speed, Physical Lifesteal, Physical Defense or Magical Defense.
Don't buy anything with Magical power on a physical character, or vice versa.
Is this an intentional troll or are you just stupid? Ymir is magical ALL his abilities are magic based, follow the link and actually READ the description and you will find
'Ymir smashes his club, doing 90/160/230/300/370 (+60% of your magical power) magical damage to all enemies in front of him, slowing them by 50% for 4 seconds.)'
Maybe actually play the game before coming to sites like this?
