Introduction & Notes

Cupid is a damn cool character, depending on the sort of play style you have, he can suit the needs of all players.

You will find above one build to start with, the build I normally play, however I will over time add builds that I often use depending on party situation etc.

I'm going to be working on this guide over the next day or so, but for now the build will do fine. I'll make sure to add more, including situations, gods to team with, best lanes etc.

If there is anything in particular you would like to see added, just leave a comment, also feedback would be great as this is my first guide. So unless it's about presentation, as I'm working on that, ALL feedback is appreciated. Thanks :)

Notes;
Wherever I mention 'Stunbomb' that simply means a Heartbomb with 10 hearts, for stun!

I have tried adding colour to make it look more pretty, but it isn't working so that can be done later.

Position of play

Cupid is a man of roles and positions. What I mean by that is, when playing as cupid, depending on who you are facing, cupid is a good choice for mid, he can solo lane very well and due to his support skills (Share the Love & Flutter), as well as his stun potential, he works really well in a duo lane. Especially with a CC heavy partner. It makes hitting those 'Stunbombs' so much easier!

If you pick Cupid, as long as you are comfortable playing him, don't worry WHERE you play. The only thing I haven't tried to do with Cupid, as it seems silly, is Jungle! I'm sure somebody could pull that off though.

Pros / Cons & Team Work

Pros

    High single target damage
    High Sustain
    Great carry/support

Cons

    Low defence
    Can be slow to start

Teamwork/Good partners

When playing Duo lane as cupid, it is always a good idea to play with a tank, your defence is incredibly low, unless you buy items for defence, so you won't last very long against 2 Gods if you aren't built up yet.

If a tank isn't available, then try to group up with somebody who has plenty of CC/Stuns, anything that makes hitting your 'Stunbomb' easier is PERFECT. Once that 'Stunbomb' is stuck, you can start your combo!

My personal favourite partners are;

Ymir: Frost Breath & Shards of Ice, need I say more?
Ra: The slow from Divine Light is great for giving you a perfect opportunity to hit that 'Stunbomb', factor in Ra's healing with yours and you have a great partnership.
Thor: If Thor can hit that Tectonic Rift, you have a brilliant chance to hit your 'Stunbomb', follow that up with Fields of Love & Thor's Berserker Barrage and you're onto a winner.
Poseidon: His lack of defence added to yours isn't ideal, however, his Whirlpool and ability to knock back with Tidal surge makes him a good partner. If you can get enemies stunned in your Fields of Love, Release the Kraken is there to pick up any survivors!

Skills

Cupid has a strange variation in his skills. As you can see below, Heartbomb & Fields of Love can be very useful when you have a full stack of hearts from Lovestruck. I find the best combination is to basic attack your way up to 10 hearts (Lovestruck), hit your target with Heartbomb, followed by Fields of Love just behind where they will be running to, causing them to be stunned in your Ultimate. While the Heartbomb pulses, before the Ult blows. Flutter up to your enemy, as to get the attack speed bonus. This combination is deadly, can be useful in team fights as the AoE effect of heart bomb & Fields of Love is brilliant, the stun is also AoE!

Share the Love is a brilliant skill to have no matter WHAT role you play. I tend to play Solo Lane/Mid a lot with Cupid, but I love playing along side a CC heavy tank, such as Ymir, add his CC to your stun potential and you have a deadly combo.

Passive: Lovestruck - Every hit with a basic attack gives Cupid a stack that increases the damage and healing of his abilities by 3%. At 10 stacks, Heart Bomb and Fields of Love will also stun for 1s.

Skill 1: Heartbomb - Cupid fires an arrow of love at the target, causing 50/80/110/140/170 (100% of your physical power) damage when it hits and slowing them by 20%. After 3 seconds, the target's heart explodes, dealing the damage again to the target and all enemies within a 20 feet radius.
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana.

Cooldown: 12 seconds.

Skill 2: Share the Love - Cupid places 3 floating hearts that last 8s at his ground target location that heal 30/50/70/90/110 (+25% of your physical power) to himself or allied gods when picked up. Cupid regenerates 30 mana for each heart that is picked up by an ally.
Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana.

Cooldown: 14 seconds.

Skill 3: Flutter - Cupid flutters quickly forward, leaving a trail behind him that increases all allies movement speed by 30%. Cupid also gains 5/10/15/20/25% attack speed for a short time after fluttering. The trail lasts 6s.
Cost: 70 mana.

Cooldown: 19/18/17/16/15 seconds.

Skill 4: Fields of Love - Cupid fires arrows of love in a 35 feet radius of his ground target location slowing enemies by 35% in the area and crippling them, preventing movement abilities. The arrows grow and explode, dealing 220/300/380/460/540 (+100% of your physical power) damage and mesmerizing enemies for 2.5s. Any damage done breaks the effect.
Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 mana.

Cooldown: 90 seconds.

Have you ever tried duo laning with an Aphrodite? I haven't actually, it's very rare I even get an Aphro on my team in all honesty.

Would love to try it though.

Thanks for the feedback, will be adding more to the guide later, it's tough to find spare time when you have a 1 year old son :P

I wouldn't consider it playing "devil's advocate"1 because I actually disagree with your statement that builds should not be uploaded. Granted, "build only" should be in a guide with just a build, but this specific guide has more than that, and the author has stated he'll update his guide with more content over time.

As for the Aphrodite/Cupid comments - I agree that Cupid/Aphrodite is more of a 'high sustain' combo than 'kill secure' combo. They both have heals, Aphrodite can protect both of them with her ultimate, Cupid has a dash, his ultimate can zone-cripple, and Aphrodite can stun and slow. Admittedly they can do a lot of damage by applying both Heartbomb and Lovebirds during a kiss, but, as JararoNatsu said, Fenrir and some others would be better choices.

1 I will gladly admit to this for a free cheesecake, though.

Aphro-titties can do that with a lot of other Gods. That's basically her purpose in the game, to carry another God.

I have seen her keep disgusting horrible Fenrirs alive to the point of the Fenrir being the most fed God in that match. I have seen one cause unimaginable amounts of damage with a Neith at her side. Any God that has CC and pairs up with Aphrodite will be far more deadly.

That is a great suggestion though. Considering that Aphrodite (technically Venus) is Cupid's mother, it works in that sense and in that there is unkillability mixed with CC and damage.

Do you enjoy playing devil's advocate toward me? I'll have to shove a raspberry cheesecake in your face for this.

If one posts just a build, they should post "build-only". Obviously, this is not a build-only guide.

I don't see the problem with posting a build for a guide now that you can filter out guides based on the amount of characters present. After all, there are gods that I could be comfortable with but would just want to find a better build for, and even someone without much free-time could upload a build. A good guide takes a solid amount of time, though.

Anyhow, this is a great guide for anyone just beginning with Cupid, as it provides visual examples of his spells, as well as general tips on how to play him.

Never post a guide just for the build. It makes me want to burn a person's soul.

I look forward to the finished guide.

For a start, it's not bad. However, I suggest you refrain from the "W.I.P." path. I would much prefer that you show the reader your finished work, and letting readers see the guide as it is built is not always the best option. In other words... finish it before you publish it.

Aside from the pictures in the Skills section, you should give your insight on the skills. What are they good for, what situations do they work best in, and how can they be used well are some good questions that you can answer there.

I assume you'll be adding a gameplay section? Good. It would also be good to add an items section so you can explain your reasoning for picking the items you did. A match-ups section would be great here as well, to let the reader know what kind of a challenge they could expect from some Gods.

Overall, not bad. Still don't like "W.I.P."

Thanks for the feedback :) Indeed I will be adding more sections, unfortunately while I was doing this I didn't realize how much time had passed. Haha :) I'll be working on it though :) I mainly wanted to publish it just for the build.
