In Arena, I like combo 1 over combo 2 because you don't have to stack, and you come online quicker (more ability spamming) due to rushing Breastplate of Valor.
This combo makes you more tanky, but it's very slow, and a bit risky to stack Warlock's Staff. Hades doesn't have the safest wave clear since he has to get close to the minions to kill them.
You should build Warlock's Staff early so you can complete your stacks ASAP. You won't get the benefit of spamming your abilities since you are delaying cooldowns.
In slower game modes like Clash/Siege, this defense combo is more viable.
Frequent ability spamming.
Fair survivability from protections and lifesteal.
Fair amount of flat penetration + damage.
Use in Arena/Clash/Siege
This is a good amount of tankiness, but stacking is very slow and can leave Hades a bit vulnerable. Mantle of Discord is a flexible pick up and should be delayed/skipped if you aren't being targeted a lot.
This build is much more viable in slower game modes like Clash/Siege, where one minion wave isn't shared by everyone.
So why Bruiser Hades? He's slow. His ult leaves him vulnerable. Makes sense to build some defense.
Not optimized for Conquest, Joust, or Assault.
Use in Arena/Clash/Maybe Siege.

What?
What?
Well, if I knew what you were giving a what response to I might be able to answer the question. Is it to the whole premise of there being hades experts(which was just my way of asking for some help, which apparently other posters recognized)? I really don't know what your query is regarding. It was a pretty simple and straight forward question.
Jk...pls don't beat me with the belt again.
kriega mains him as an adc in ranked conquestMe, Gulf, and Mysterionz are pretty good with him. Branmuffin is familiar enough with theory crafting to give feedback as well.
So if you have any ideas for build, you are more than free to start a discussion here.

Ok, thanks for the input from all of you. I have only been playing hardcore a couple of months so I am nowhere near ready to think i have figured anything out. More often than not i just kind of have started looking at what I want in a build and trying to find what i can, since i am nowhere near as familiar with all of the items as a lot of you here are.
That being said, on any class/character I value movement and lately I have been really getting cc'ed a lot no matter what character i am on. I also know that some characters are more cooldown reliant than others(right now that is about the only complaint i have learning sobek), and just from the handful of games I have played with Hades it seems like cooldowns would help a lot with him because i figure spamming his abilities as much as possible will be a key part of staying alive with him.
With those points in mind, i kind of just slapped this together and was going to try it out. Only playing arena currently.
Shoes of Focus Ethereal Staff Chronos' Pendant Gem of Isolation(particularly this one, ccr aside, it seems like it can be a pain getting blight on all enemies so this would ensure everyone near was slowed in some way after unloading abilities on them to make )it easier for team to clean up.) Soul Gem since i am using my abilities so much and would be using them more with cdr I figured that this was a good way to add lifesteal, a heal and get another nice boost in power since he is squishy. Spear of the Magus seemed like a good way to end the build giving some penetration and also the debuff.
I know that if i didn't go full cdr i could add in boots of magi for more penetration, or i could put something in place of the gem of isolation since hades already has a slow mechanic built into his kit. I was thinking maybe to give that extra kick to damage(especially for his ult when grabbing opponents with low health since he can easily hit/grab multiple enemies might be the rod of tahuti in place of the gem of isolation. I also thought about Winged Blade for the extra movement/health/crowd control as a replacement for the gem. I hope my thoughts are not too ridiculous sounding. Still finding my way through all this stuff. lol.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, would mystic mail be a viable alternative in a bruiser build or even this one since it adds extra damage every second when they are forced to stay in the radius of his ult?
Yes. Hades relies heavily on cooldowns. You should aim for 30-40% cdr.
Once you get better at positioning and once you have more confidence in yourself, aim for 30% CDR (get another 10% through the mana buff OR the Potion of Magical Might).
Ethereal Staff is in there a bit too early. Enemies have more health to steal in the later stages of the game. I should try building Ethereal Staff or Gem of Isolation on more builds.
So in your proposed build, Spear of the Magus will only activate if you can blight multiple enemies and detonate them with Devour Souls near an enemy god. Do you see the problem with this? Outside of being difficult to get multiple minions/enemies grouped up near an enemy god, you've used up your Devour Souls to get the ticks on Spear of the Magus. Better hope your ultimate is up and ready if you want to get the most damage out of that combo. It's certainly not a bad item, but just one I don't usually use (my personal preference).
Soul Gem is good for some decent burst damage. Also has that CDR that you really like. But, you need to consider Bancroft's Talon as your main lifesteal item. Why? During your ult, you are very vulnerable to damage. That bancroft is gonna give you a huge power spike that may help you finish off an enemy while giving you enough sustain to maintain your ult.
Your thoughts are not too ridiculous sounding. We all go through a learning phase. Winged Blade is a very situational item against enemy compositions that have a lot of slows. If you're looking for extra movement speed, consider Shaman's Ring. Rod of Tahuti is a good edition for some extra damage with his ult when enemies are near the half health threshold.
Mystical Mail would not be viable, in my opinion. The health is good, but the protections are mediocre. It's useful in conquest for solo lane gods with weak wave clear. The late game damage you'll be doing with Mystical Mail is just not worth picking it up. You can squeeze more burst damage out of Hades through penetration and some power.
So to conclude: I would drop Soul Gem, Spear of the Magus and Ethereal Staff. Since you are getting Chronos' Pendant early, I would get Shoes of the Magi. Replace Soul Gem with [bancroft's talon]]. Replace Spear of the Magus with either Spear of Desolation for squishy comps or Obsidian Shard for tank comps (or keep Spear of the Magus if you really like it). Replace either Ethereal Staff or Gem of Isolation with Mantle of Discord.
Shoes of the Magi
Chronos' Pendant (since you are wanting to rush cooldowns)
Bancroft's Talon
Mantle of Discord (get this a bit later if you aren't see too much focus)
Spear of the Magus/ Spear of Desolation/ Obsidian Shard/ Divine Ruin
Gem of Isolation
kriega mains him as an adc in ranked conquestMe, Gulf, and Mysterionz are pretty good with him. Branmuffin is familiar enough with theory crafting to give feedback as well...
I'm more of a theory crafter like Bran; I haven't played Hades enough to consider myself good with him but I have seen plenty of good and bad players to get something of an idea of how to play him.
> Me Mastery I with 5 matches played: OH, yeah, my main
np. Yeah, it was fun. I will definitely be trying him out more. nice bridge build for someone who runs guardian and warrior a lot.
Add more situationals/alternatives: ethereal, reaver, magus, obsidian, urchin, spirit robe, elo helm (celestial helm), typhons (people don't build anti-heal in arena for some reason).
Also for arena i'd straight up remove warlocks as an option.
Add tier 2 bancrofts as a start.
Thorns and bracer could also be possible relic options.
In the first build example either swap deso for chronos' pendant, magus, obsidian or ethereal or a tank item. Get Divine Ruin fifth.
As stated in the purchase order notes, warlocks isn't for arena.
*this is more for his 1 and 2 than his ult.
It's in the purchase order notes.
For the tank build, why magus and void stone together? Magus alresdy gives a **** ton of pen.
Also, keep in mind hades has a really nice cc in his kit. I think he truly benefits from max cdr.
Itemization - Tanky/Bruiser
First, with builds, based on my previous comment that you pasted in, you know I like Warlock + Mantle/Spirit to balance protections and health. Not that you should get caught up with terms like "bruiser," but I'd point out that a lot of mages these days build that way...at least Warlock, with a possibility of a protection item if they need it.
That said, if you find it a pain to build stacks, then sub in Hide of the Urchin, and get a couple of other protection or hybrid items, and you can still tank a good amount of damage.
Itemization - Spear of the Magus / Damage
Spear of the Magus seems like an obvious choice due to the easy stacking of Pillar of Agony. However...how many escapes does the enemy team have that can easily get out of it? How good are you at capturing at least a couple of gods in it with proper timing and awareness to counter those escapes (e.g. also Blink Rune necessary to really make that happen).
In all honesty, a lot of your build choices really are going to center around your effectiveness with that ult. If you have difficulties with that...I wouldn't try to force it. Your other damaging abilities only hit twice (maybe Devour Souls can double-tap if they're blighted, not sure, which would make it 3 times). That's not enough to really get good effect from Spear of the Magus.
So we look at build opportunities overall. He's got great scaling if you get all hits of his ult (240%), decent scaling in Death From Below (60%), and great scaling from Devour Souls if you use the Death/Devour combo (120%). That 1-3 combo actually equals 180% scaling. So, even without his ult, you can see that a higher power build can have good effect on your damage potential. Keep that in mind. Items that provide ANY power are then possibly better than true protection/tank items, at least as long as you have a balance of protections and health.
Then, consider that, maybe, Spear of the Magus might actually NOT be the best item for him, again because the only time he can make full use of it is via trapping enemies for multiple hits in his ult...if they get hit twice and jump out, it's not all that great. Also you consider your team comp...maybe another magical teammate might be able to apply stacks of Spear easier, so maybe they want to pick it up...or maybe your only other magical teammate is a more passive Guardian...again, not as great.
So, if you bypass Spear, make up for it with any combination of Void Stone, Divine Ruin, Spear of Desolation, Shoes of the Magi, etc. Might actually be more effective too, with possibly higher pen effect up front.
Itemization - CDR
I can absolutely support the idea of max CDR (though I don't think it HAS to be Chronos + BoV, and it doesn't have to be all super rushed). Patch 5.7 took away Devour Souls' consuming Blight. Now, you can have that blight perpetually active. It has a duration of 8 seconds, and if you have max CDR, Death From Below (8.4s CDR, provides a 2s slow), Shroud of Darkness (6s CDR, provides a 2s fear) and Devour Souls (6.6s, provides a small heal) will give you a ton of utility.
BoV then is great if you face more physical than magical. Chronos is great if you want that enhanced CDR passive...or you get one of the two, and fill in the CDR gap with any of a variety of other CDR items.
In the end...he can be built a BUNCH of different ways. I'd keep things very flexible.
I don't think Breastplate of Valor and Chronos' Pendant are necessary in the same build, but not terrible.
I'll give alternative builds: Build 1 (bruiser): Shoes of the Magi, Bancroft's Talon, Breastplate of Valor, Spear of the Magus, Void Stone, Typhon's Fang.
Build 2 (more burst): Shoes of the Magi, Bancroft's Talon, Divine Ruin, Obsidian Shard, Chronos' Pendant, Ethereal Staff.
Build 3: Warlock's Staff, Shoes of the Magi, Spear of the Magus, Soul Reaver, Spirit Robe, Spear of Desolation.
Extra Build: Rod of Asclepius, Shoes of the Magi, Divine Ruin, Chronos' Pendant, Mantle of Discord, Rod of Tahuti.
Tank Hades Build: Bancroft's Talon, Reinforced Shoes, Breastplate of Valor, Spear of the Magus, Void Stone, Spirit Robe.
With any "bruiser" build, I usually think it's best to get both protections AND health where possible. For mages like Hades and Zhong Kui, who have to be closer to enemies to deal their damage and don't have good escapes ( Hades will usually initiate with his escape), then it's almost necessary.
So, if you can get away with it (e.g. others aren't stacking), Warlock's Staff is almost core...combine that with Mantle of Discord or anything else with balanced protections (unless only magical or physical are real threats).
Also, if you're going to look to be a bit of a focus for the enemy team, then Bancroft's Talon a bit earlier might be nice, but only if you can fit it in earlier.
I can definitely see the appeal of Mantle of Discord and Warlock's Staff (I'll include those options), but Breastplate of Valor and Void Stone give CDR and Pen. I want to keep Hades' fairly tanky while still giving him good damage output.
I agree that Health AND Protections are needed for an effective bruiser ( Void Stone gives +150 health btw), but my plan was to let Bancroft's Talon's lifesteal make up for the lack of HP from defensive options.
I also did mention that BC's talon can be built earlier. It's up to the user.
In order to save Hades escape, I advocated Blink Rune so the player could still save their escape/chase item in case they needed it.
