Introduction

Hello if you are reading this I assume you would like to play Bellona that is great. Bellona was the first character I ever played and I fell in love with her. But enough about me lets get into playing Bellona.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
1. Good wave clear
2. great team fight presence
3. Good damage
4. Good at 1v1
5. can fit many play styles

cons:
1. No real hard cc besides the ultimate
2. no good escape besides ultimate
3. Her ability's and mail clearing potential can easily be cancelled by cc's

Main items

Lets start off with the items I like to build in a normal game. First the starting items I normally get the first starting option, unless I am worried of getting ganked right in the beginning or if I am playing alone, and play with that because of starting with more movement speed and the sustain with deaths toll. Second I just grab some pots and wards depending on the situation. Now lets get to the meat of this the main build. First off I like to grab the ninja tabi to get attack speed right away this can help you get a relatively early kill with ease but after I get exe I grab warrior or I grab it after I build everything else. The rest of the items I find are pretty simple breastplate of valor for mana and cooldown and obviously protections,Frostbound hammer for the slow power and health, exe for the pen and attack speed, now I grab genjis guard because genji's guard is daddy, and usually I grab shifters for the extra damage. Note if you are going up against a magical solo laner I get genji's first than breast plate later.

Situational items

Now getting into the situational items as it states in the name these are if you need to counter somebody or just prefer something different that what I do. first there is Ichaival is only if you are going up against a very fast attack speed solo laner like a hunter or erlang shen and you need the extra attack speed early game bu than after I get full build i would swap it. Brawler's beat stick and pestilence are mainly for if the team has a healer like Aphrodite or Hel and pestilence is good if they have a very big magical presence. On the other hand if they have a very big physical presence I will grab nemean. Also depending on if they have a big magical or physical presence I will grab shifters for physical and runic for magical

Relics

Now I feel like this is probably the most confusing part for beginners is what to get as relics. If you are playing conquest basically every solo laner will grab teleport rune first, you do not have to but since the other laner will most likely grab it it is safe to grab it too because if they can port and come back quickly and you are low they will get free farm and that is not good for you. If I am not playing conq i will usually grab med cloak first to help the team. Now what to get second well this is a choice of who is in the game most of the time I will grab aegis if they do not have a lot of cc or I will grab purification beads if they do have a lot of cc. But now what if they have a very pesky adc or attack speed jungler these relics might not work so if they do have gods that are like that I will grab bracer to get back all my health if they shred it quickly. There is really only one time you need to grab phantom and that is if they have an Odin If you don't want to use your ult or you want to save your team from an Odin ult phantom can get you directly through it. Last but definitely not least is blink rune, this is a relic if you are messing around I almost never grab this on Bellona but if you want to be a jerk you can probably get some cheeky kills blinking through walls and using your combos to surprise the enemy

Skills

Now after you learn your items you should look into your neato skills, I am just gonna go down the list starting with the passive and just give base descriptions for each ability. Your passive is called "Master of War" and every time you hit somebody with an auto you gain 1 stack. This ability has a max of 5 stack and for each stack you gain 4 protections and 3% movement speed. Next going onto your shield bash, with your shield bash you dash forwards a little ways, do some damage and, slow your enemy, after you dash forwards you take out a sword and shield and with every 3 auto attacks you gain one stack of block completely negating any damage done to you. Your next ability is bludgeon, this is your most damaging ability. You take out a hammer swing it around in a circle then you jump into the air and slam down. this does very high damage and very good for early game quick kill. Onto your third ability this one is called scourge and it is a whip. when you use this ability if you hit somebody it will block them from using auto attacks for a short amount of time and for every 3 auto attacks you get healed for a little bit of health. Now finally onto the fourth and finally ability your ultimate. Your is called Eagle's Rally. With this ability you leap into the air with a flag stunning people who land under where you land and marking a circle on the ground and while standing in that circle you get increased protections and physical power.

Skill combos

There are not many combos for her but the mail ones I use are
one: bludgeon, auto attacks, scourge, shield bash, auto attacks
two: Eagle's Rally, bludgeon, auto attacks, scourge, shield bash, auto attacks
These really are the only two combos I use but they are really effective.

Outro

I hope you have enjoyed my little Bellona guide. Bellona was my first mastery 10 god and she is always my main pick for the solo lane. This build isn't as good as some of the builds I followed when I first started playing her but I think this a good guide for beginners who just want a basic build and some basic breakdown of ability's and combos.

Thank you everybody for the suggestions on the build this was mainly experimental what I had built here and I forgot to put a new section now with the new build I took what I liked from the suggestions and left what I didn't. I do really like Bellona and play her a lot but I am by no means that good and I really appreciate the help from all of you. Also I do also play her in jungle and if you guys could give me some suggestions for what to build there I would really appreciate it. Thank you all for your generous help and I hope you all have a great day everyday.

*EDIT* one build I have tried and done pretty well as in jungle with Bellona is Ninja Tabi, Urchin, Shifter's, Discord, asi, Stone cutting sword

Hello Artekuna just looked guide and have some concerns specifically to your build. What gamemode or role are you trying to focus. Now the final build it self.
  • Going Attack Speed based is fine with her, but I don't recommend going with no pen at all. At least put The Executioner or Jotunn's Wrath. Why Ninja Tabi warriors should pick up Warrior Tabi they need that extra power in early game so that when they get a other power item as a third or fourth they have at least some power.
  • Your starter is a bit off you never build Rangda's Mask on Bellona ever. It should be replace by Boots get that extra movement speed helps and could probably save your life. Also the situational items you picked some of them are actually core items for her while a few are not. Soul Eater is best for ADC gods so solo lane is not going to get anything out of it if there build is all about tank items.

That's all I have to say about this guide if you have any questions just ask me.

If you suggest Boots simply for the movement speed, then Rangda's Mask would be more viable since it gives movement speed (and CDR, which in this case will allow Bellona to cycle between weapons more often). In the case of Bellona, depending on what mode or role it is, it can work. If it's Conquest solo, I wouldn't get it since you may never get those stacks built. If it's another game mode such as Clash, then Rangda's Mask is absolutely a viable option. Only if you want that early power from Warrior Tabi is when you'll start with Boots, not the movement speed.

Soul Eater isn't entirely an ADC item. It'll be good for ADC's who focus a lot on abilities such as Neith or Hou Yi should they build for ability-based. Other ADC's will still be better of with Bloodforge, Devourer's Gauntlet or Asi. Soul Eater is currently still a niche pick, but can work in the solo lane if your god is very dependent on their abilties, but even then I would still opt for Gladiator's Shield instead.

I don't understand your reasoning behind "Warriors must ABSOLUTELY get Warrior Tabi". Some warriors can absolutely benefit from Ninja Tabi, and then we're talking about warriors who rely on basic attacks to clear waves rather than abilities, someone like Osiris. They should, however, swap Ninja Tabi out for Warrior Tabi later in the game once they get other items online.

Your thoughts?

One more thing, @Artekuna, I wouldn't get Hastened Katana. Ninja Tabi and Shogun's Kusari will provide enough attack speed. Instead I would get Frostbound Hammer for some extra power and the health bonus. The passive will work better with Bellona's Shield Bash. If you really want more attack speed, swap Soul Eater for Asi.

The reason why I don't recommend Rangda's Mask due to the reason is a hit or miss item. If you're able to get kills early then is great, unless if you're feeding the item is basically useless. So going boots is a better choice having that early power. If you want CDR then get Jotunn's Wrath or Breastplate of Valor second determining is you want to be more aggressive or defensive. Soul Eater is weird due to it's passive and base stats. Bellona is a hybrid she uses abilities and autos to defeat her opponent. I would probably take Asi or Jotunn's Wrath over Soul Eater. Her abilities could hit multiple targets allowing the full stacked passive to work pretty well. I agree that Gladiator's Shield is a better option. I see Ninja Tabi as a item that's good for early - mid game then that it falls off late game. There are better attack speed choices to replace Ninja Tabi. The extra 40 power you get from Warrior Tabi is supberb early allowing most warrior to clear lane efficiently

I like your guide :). Also, as a Bellona player, I feel qualified to back up your choice of Bluestone as a starter item over Death's Toll. I never would have said that before, but the nerf hit hard. Bluestone has been used on Bellona before, and there was a time when I would make the decision depending on my lane opponent. If you are facing a god like Tyr who can easily push you out of your 2, then I would always go Bluestone and level my three instead of my two, because it was much easier to land your clear that way, and you still get decent sustain. I'm still not completely sold on double chalice, because getting movespeed online as Bellona is very important, and you should never be losing blue buff, but it is still a cool build

Artekuna (2) | August 12, 2017 12:15am
Thank you and yes I do agree with the death's toll nerf hitting hard and I like to level the 2 first because just me as a player I end up getting too aggressive and that helps me with pushing. Also just a note I would like to say thank you to you because you were the first person's guide I have ever read on playing bellona and that how I started playing her and getting her as my first mastery 10

*EDIT* I forgot to say this but I do just prefer the chalices as a personal preference but normal pots work fine and alot of my friends like to get them

Just looking at your build, I think everything's solid overall. One thing I'd point out is that you don't really describe a build when facing a magical solo. Your 2nd item Breastplate of Valor is anti-physical...would you consider Genji's Guard a good alternative?

Also, have you tried Gladiator's Shield as a bridge item?

I know you detailed that this is meant for beginners, but still think these could be added (if you agree with their potential effectiveness) without making the build too convoluted.

*edit* Actually thought of one question...since you play her so much, you have intimate knowledge of how her kit feels. When Death's Toll's sustain aspect was nerfed with regard to cleave autos, how much did you feel its effect? Did it change how you had to approach clearing or aggressiveness?
1
Artekuna (2) | August 12, 2017 12:09am
Normally I go for grabbing the shogun's when I have a magical solo laner though I do sometimes grab genji's and it just slipped my mind when I was making the alternative items. Also I have not tried gladiator's sheld on bellona but I will test it out. finally like I have said to the others I opt to grab bluestone because of the nerf on death's toll

Btw, i just checked smiteguru and im apparently the best bellona in combined casual gamemodes. here is a link for proof. http://smite.guru/leaderboards/wins/pc?champion=bellona&queue=-1

Not trying to take away from your ranking, and that's very cool, but want to note that the ranking is based on total wins and playtime categories, not exclusively being "best." You've played Bellona more than double the next person (194 hours for you in S4, vs 92 hours for 2nd place in playtime). There are some with higher KDA, and some with higher win %. You are somewhat close to playing Bellona exclusively...310 hours for her, compared to 28 hours/18 hours/14 hours for the next 3. No wonder you're at the top!

Granted, it also looks like you're a very solid player with her.

Jona_Rivia (3) | August 8, 2017 1:02pm
Well, I'm not a person who plays a lot with Bellona (I have about 500 worshipers) but first, I agree with Pravada's comment, I think Death's Toll better than Bluestone Pendant, you need that sustain yes or yes in solo Lane. And the following is already a question of a non-expert with this god:
Is not it better to perform a build with only defense items? (Well, except for the boots and a support item such as the Frostbound Hammer). I think this in general with all the warriors, or most, because I'm usually fighting in the middle of 4 enemies at least, and with that build I would not feel enough tank.
Greetings.

Artekuna (2) | August 12, 2017 12:06am
Yes having the health is nice but the nerf on that death's toll is still what makes me choose bluestone over that.
1
Pravada (1) | August 8, 2017 9:12am
I dont know about you, but i got Bellona at 9100 worshipers and never once have i considered bluestone better then deathstoll. With Bellona's cleave autos you can essentially sustain from the entire wave.
1
Artekuna (2) | August 12, 2017 12:04am
Yes I have thought about using the death's toll over bluestone because i used to but than it got hit with that nerf and I just opted for using the blustone

Good looking guide. Personally I wouldn't get Chalice of Mana. You get enough through your mana buff and Breastplate.

I find that solo lane has become a festival of activity, so I'd start with Chalice of Oracle. Keep in mind though, with both chalice you don't really have any slots for anything else so you'd have to rely on your support/jungle/mid to sentry.

If you find yourself involved in fights a lot, I normally grab a Hide of Urchin with Stone Cutting Sword.

Edit: Also, a suggestion if I may. The guide is aimed at beginners, so try explaining and suggesting relics.

Artekuna (2) | August 8, 2017 6:27am
Ok I will add the relic suggestions and explanations and add the stone cutting and urchin to the guide. I will also add explanations for the other siuationals
