Purchase Order

Core Notes Shoes just represents shoes in general

Rod of Asclepius isn't a necessity, or a 'true core' as Bran said, but greatly helps against anti-heals; something any decent enemy would buy. Also, due to being an immobile mage, the movement speed from it helps.

Spear of the Magus reduces magical protections on enemies for not only yourself, but allies as well allowing them to deal more damage. In addition, stacks are easily built up to the maximum when using Consign Spirits and Life of the Party.

Build Item Shoes Shoes
Build Item Spear of the Magus Spear of the Magus
Build Item Rod of Asclepius Rod of Asclepius

Start #1 Notes You can either purchase Lost Artifact which will lead to Chronos' Pendant or Spellbook which which bring you to Soul Reaver. Instead of building stacks early, which is risky if you fall behind, building an expensive T3 item early may be beneficial for the stacks early game. Baron's Brew is like a Multi Potion that heals for more.

Chronos' Pendant provides a decent amount of MP5 with high CDR and magical power, making your abilities a bit more expendable than before along with sustain.

Build Item Mage's Blessing Mage's Blessing
Build Item Lost Artifact Lost Artifact
Build Item Baron's Brew Baron's Brew
Build Item Multi Potion Multi Potion
Build Item Mana Potion Mana Potion

Start #2 Notes Soul Reaver is great for providing extra poke and wave clear due to its high magical power and its passive. It also gives a lot of mana, which is useful for in-lane sustain. Good synergy with Book of Thoth.

Replacements/Situationals Notes Magi's Cloak - Being a squishy low mobility mage, CC makes it worse

Winged Blade - Increases his mobility and helps him get out of sticky situations

Shield of Regrowth - An odd choice, encourages landing consign spritis which would increase mobility upon activation

Divine Ruin - Counters healing, a must have if there's an enemy healer

Void Stone - Useful if being harassed a lot by magical gods

Dynasty Plate Helm - Useful if the jungler is constantly harrasing you. Provides some penetration and protections

Mantle of Discord - Gives a large amount of both magical and physical protections, along with CDR and a useful passive.

Pythagorem's Piece - CDR, and a lifesteal aura for you and your teammates. Quite useful

Baron Samedi

Baron Samedi is a death Petro Loa, one of the aspects of The Baron. Baron Samedi is a utility mage (like Nu Wa) that can heal and support team mates, while dishing out his fair share of damage. Baron Samedi is a low mobility mage with strong crowd control and unique skills. His abilities allow him to counter and control enemy gods. Combined with health-scaled abilities and a combo oriented kit, Baron Samedi can easily influence a fight.

Abilities

Hysteria

"Baron shares Baron's Brew, a powerful restorative chalice, with his allies from the Item Shop. Enemies hit by Baron will have Hysteria applied to them. Baron's abilities interact with Hysteria to provide bonus effects. Targets at Max Hysteria take 25% additional damage from Baron Samedi."

Notes

Vivid Gaze

"Baron Samedi animates two skulls, both which briefly charge before firing two beams of voodoo magic that damages enemies. The beams crossover wherever Baron Samedi was aiming. Enemies hit by both beams take 15% damage on the second hit.
If the enemy god hit is above 30 Hysteria, their Physical Power, Magical Power, and Attack Speed are reduced"

Notes

Consign Spirits

"Baron Samedi guides restless spirits to the ground and buries them. After a brief delay the ground erupts, damaging enemies standing in the area. If an enemy god is hit, friendly spirits fly the from the area and heal allies near the explosion or by Baron Samedi.
If the enemy god hit is above 30 Hysteria the friendly spirit cleanses slows, makes allies immune to slows, and increases their Movement Speed."

Notes

Wrap It Up

Baron Samedi throws his snake forward, wrapping any enemy god hit and dealing damage every .5s for 4s and slowing them until they are rooted.

If a god hit is above 30 Hysteria, the snake will also lash out at nearby enemy gods who stand too close after 1s. Enemies hit by this are injected with venom that slows them until they are rooted and deals the same damage but instantly rather than over 4s.

Notes

Life Of The Party

Baron Samedi pulls the souls of the living towards his Coffin, becoming CC Immune and taking 50% reduced damage. Enemy gods within range are pulled towards the Coffin and take damage every .33s. When an enemy god gets too close to the coffin their soul is ripped out, causing them to be stunned, take a large amount of damage based on their total health and gain max Hysteria. This ability persists for 3.5s or until an enemy god is pulled to the coffin.
If targets being pulled are above 30 Hysteria, the pull strength is increased.

Hey Tlaloc/Rezneth. Me and IceColdPappsi gathered some test data which may be of use to your guides. As of today:

1) Magi's Cloak and Spirit Robe do NOT protect against Baron Samedi's Wrap It Up.
This is a potential bug, because for comparison, Magi's Cloak will protect against Artemis's Transgressor's Fate (root+cripple) and Neith's Back Flip+ Spirit Arrow root combo.

2) Purification Beads and CC immune ults, like Ragnarok, WILL save you from Wrap It Up.

3) Winged Blade does not protect against the slow from Wrap It Up. This is a potential bug because Heavenly Wings WILL nullify the slow, thus preventing you from being rooted.

Most of these things are going are probably going to be fixed next patch and seeing as they're bugs it's pointless to add them to the guide.

A good basic guide. One thing I will mention that no one else seems to have, I think the general damage combo should be 3 > 2 > 1, rather than 3 > 1 > 2, as the 2 takes a moment to go off, and if you time it quickly, the 1 will land almost exactly as the 2 explodes, resulting in huge burst and less of a chance for the 2 to miss.

Hey Tlaloc,

Nice writeup. Looks clean like usual.

Some comments:
  • When you talk about Hysteria (and in particular, Baron's Brew), you say you can only buy one...makes it sound like there's only 1 use before you have to refill. Might clarify that better, since it should be 3 uses (like normal healing/mana chalices). Also, it might just be the way I read it, but it sounds like when you say Multi Potion has a longer duration, it's a negative against the Brew. Reason it sounds like that is because I think you could reword to really say that the Brew is a great item, rather than just give comparatives. Boosted multi potion with a preferably shorter duration to restore is great.

  • On Vivid Gaze, you're saying to point the intersection so the beams hit all of the minions...I don't think you can hit all minions with that intersection unless they're bunched up. Rather, making sure one of the beams goes through the entire wave, and focusing the intersection on the minions you need more damage on, is probably best. That extra damage isn't all that much anyway. Helpful, but not huge.

  • Spelling error on the last sentence of notes for Consign Spirits.

  • Somewhere, you might talk about how Spear of the Magus is core (which you identify as such, but never talk about) because of the easy stacking/multi-ticks of Wrap It Up and Life of the Party.

  • I need to play with him some, so take my build comments with that consideration. That said, for any god that has a situational heal rather than a heal that can work anywhere/anytime, I always feel that Rod of Asclepius is also then situational. In Baron's case, I think it's probably closer to core, but still...not necessarily true core. He'll appreciate that MS since he has no escape, and that alone might make it basically core, maybe. But if you've got other teammates with heals, and you're playing skilled competition, expect anti-heal, and so you're building something that's going to have a reduced function.

  • I think the rest of the item suggestions are solid, but you might consider some additional things. I think Mantle of Discord is another option that should be in there. Pythagorem's Piece is another great utility item, if your teammates are sticking with you (or you're sticking with them, as should be the case).
Thoughts?

  • Will make the changes to clarify the Hysteria description

  • Will fix the Vivid Gaze intersection thing, I actually meant to say position the point o intersection so that all the minions are hit by at least one beam. Going to make that clear-er

  • your technotoad is showing

  • Will explain spear if the magus

  • Interesting stuff on Rod of Asclepius. I agree
  • Will add Mantle of Discord and Pythagorem's Piece.

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it a lot

I like it!

However, isnt the warlocks in there a bit late? Soul reaver in there a bit too early?

From what I’ve seen so far, Barraccuda and several others on YouTube have tried building Soul Reaver early and benefited greatly

Early soul reaver is fine (as alternative to book of thoth), but late warlocks isn't. The very latest you should go warlocks is third item. Anything past that is very bad.

Dope. More power to you then. I figured you'd save more expensive items for later and get your stacking done earlier. But alright. Have you built Soul Reaver earlier? What did you think if you did?
