Baron Samedi, The god of life and death...

Introduction!

Hello! And welcome to my first BIG in-depth guide on Baron Samedi. I have taken a liking to this mage and would like to give you my best builds and a guide on how to play him in both mid lane and in the support lane, as he is a really good support god amongst the mages.
Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I am Lukatomic, a new build creator and I am trying to start a YouTube channel. You can just call me Luka/Luke, I dont really care. But I am a really good Chernobog main and Ganesha main, even though my Chernobog build isn't liked by alot of people, for some reason... but I am always trying out new ganesha builds and I am going to completely change my ganesha build and turn it into a guide in the future. As for my personal life, nobody needs to know that! All you need to know is that I am a really good player, and by that I don't get toxic 90% of the time, unless they deserve it, lol.
That's all I have to say about myself, so let's get into the next chapter of this entire guide.

Baron samedi, for beginners

If you are a beginner, I would only read this chapter as it is only the basic things you need to know about Baron Samedi, if you are not a beginner or you just like to challenge yourself, read everything! I dont care about what you do, but enough talk, let's get into the basics.

Baron Samedi is one of my favorite mages to play, even if you search me up on SmiteGuru, you wont see alot of gameplay of that. But that's because I have been testing him...alot. But now is not the time for that.

Baron Samedi is a simple, but creative mage to play as he has his own consumables that his teammates can also buy that give a health and mana buff for 20 seconds.I don't want to get too in depth with his abilities, but I will at least say what all of them do. So let's start!

Passive-Hysteria
Baron shares a new potion that gives both health and mana. As baron hits his enemies, a certain percentage of hysteria gets applied to that enemy. At max hysteria,
baron does 20% more damage.

Vivid Gaze is an ability that fires 2 lasers in the direction you point, if you hit a God, they are affected by hysteria(which is a passive that affects all of his abilities for every hit)
Consign Spirits is an ability that is an AOE and when you hit an enemy god it heals you and people around you for every god hit in its area.
Wrap it up is an ability where baron throws a snake, if you hit an enemy god, it hurts them and applies a slow affect that ends in a stop, no stun included.
Life of the partyI'm going to make this ability description short and simple... baron summons a coffin, jumps on top of it, and sucks people into it, if a person touches the coffin, an amount of health is dealt and it applies a stun.

Here are some combos you can use with this

Wrap it up--Consign spirits--Vivid gaze OR Wrap it up--Life of the party--consign spirits--Vivid Gaze

You can mix them up in any way you want to.

How to play Baron Samedi in the Mid lane.

The mid lane is great for Baron Samedi as he has 2 lane clearing abilities. He also has his healing and passive ability. So let's get started!

What should I look out for in the mid lane?

In the mid lane, you always need to look for ganks, as any normal mid laner, and try to save at least one ability and/or have you or your teammates put wards at the entrances of the mid lane as you will get dunked on...alot. But in the mid lane, you also have your consign spirits to heal yourself, so if you get ganked, run and use the ability on yourself as you are running as you can get a chance of a speed boost and your heal will help you in any situation. Try to hit someone with it if you are in trouble and you need to keep in mind that you are wide open to impending doom on every side, so keep your distance from the enemy tower if you need a quick escape to ensure your survival. If you push the lane way too hard, you might get obliterated by a gank, so be on your guard, save your mana and your abilities.

As of August 16th, 2019, This build was changed to have mid to late game lifesteal and power since [shamans ring] was buffed to all hell and is much more powerful to go against a team fight. This build was designed for early game mana and penetration. As for the the mana boots, you can switch them to the penetration boots if against certain gods.

Baron samedi support in duo lane

Baron Samedi in the support lane. As of August 26, 2019, this build was re configured and tested to it's full capability. To be honest playing baron samedi in the support lane is one of the most fun ways of playing him. So let's get to an explanation.

Why baron samedi in the support? Because of his abilities, that's why! By using consign spirits you can save your teamates life in some of the most painful duo lane pushes. I have been saving my teamates in alot of instances and this also goes along with the build to ensure your teamates survivability.

The build for this goes for health and a tank-like form to ensure that your teamates are safe in team fights and helping your carry survive.

Baron Samedi in the solo lane?

With the addition of Baron Samedi Stellar Demise, comes the full SOLO BUILD AND GUIDE! So let's start!

-Going against a physical-
When going against a physical with Baron Samedi, you must keep your distance from your opponent as for example-Bellona,Achilles, and Hercules, can and WILL bully you into the next dimension. You also have your Consign Spirits, which gives you a heal and a speed boost. So use it wisely! Also, while going against any physical, you can also avoid your opponent until you have help from your jungle, or when you actually need to hurt him/her.

-Going against Magical-
This part of being baron samedi solo is MUCH easier than going against a physical since you have speed when using Consign Spirits, so it's easier to escape your opponent.
Also, once you buy Genjis Guard, you will barely take any damage from most guardian solo players and some mage solo players. For example, if you go against a jormungundr, he will do almost no damage with his basic attack, and almost decent damage with his abilities.

So that's all I can talk about for now! I am still practicing Baron Samedi in solo. If you have any suggestions, please comment them!

Hey! You have reached the end of this basic baron samedi guide! Please give me suggestions as I really want to add more to this guide.

Oh you mean adding a solo build and remove the mid? I still think baron is very viable in mid and I am positive that all of these builds work in their best form and I have no trouble with book of thoth, I am still open anything to be added...not changed

Well, the guide needs some work my friend...
It has too many colors. For me, it's very hard to read the solo and mid lane part, and that's a big problem. I'd suggest light colors, such as this one (ecb85d) and this one (b47ded), which are smooth colors that help people read the guide more pleasantly.

Also, you aren't naming the passive at all. You do say, in the Vivid Gaze description, that the passive is applied by all of his abilities. That is correct, but you should explain Baron Samedi's passive since is his most hard to understand ability.

Kriega mostly brought everything i was going to suggest for the builds, so that's all. :) ♥

Thank you for the suggestion! Last night I had a hard time with reading that stuff as well and I honestly wasnt thinking about that when I first made it and the passive explanation will be added today.

Mid:

Starter: This needs to be changed. Baron has one of the worst early mid clears in the game, if not the worst. The tier 1 shoes need to changed to something else, either Spellbook or preferably, Magic Focus - but this comes in later in regards to builds.

The Example Build: Overall, it's not an awful build per say, but you're building Book of Thoth without much reason for it, it's not like you're building Soul Reaver or/and Book of the Dead to make the best use out of Thoth. Shaman's Ring is an item im unsure about since the change, it doesen't give mobility any more, and really needs to be stacked to get a good damage purpose. Pythagorem's Piece is a decent item choice on Baron, but this build is missing on lategame damage a bit, especially to tanks so it's not a priority over other items like Ethereal Staff and Soul Reaver. Rod of Tahuti - decent item on Baron, works nice with his heal under the health threshold.

My suggested example build on Baron Samedi: Shoes of Focus > Spear of the Magus > Divine Ruin > Rod of Tahuti > Ethereal Staff > Chronos' Pendant > sell Shoes of Focus lategame for Obsidian Shard (or Soul Reaver), sell Spear of the Magus ultralategame for Soul Reaver (or Obsidian Shard). Why sell Magus that late? Because by that point with this build you can already decimate squishies, but it having that Reaver/Obs Shard/E-Staff combo will hurt those tanky frontliners lategame.

An example of this build in the very lategame: https://smite.guru/match/961685056

If don't need Divine Ruin you can just go: Shoes of Focus > Spear of the Magus > Ethereal Staff > Chronos' Pendant > Soul Reaver > ok now here you can pickup Mantle of Discord - gives you decent protections combined with the health stealing from a Ethereal Staff lategame, otherwise get Obsidian Shard > Sell Shoes of Focus lategame for Staff of Myrddin or something like Pythagorem's Piece etc...

And of course with a different suggested example build, needs a different starter, to which I suggest: Mage's Blessing, Magic Focus and Baron's Brew. Obviously you still get boots first for the build, it's just your clear is improved getting Magic Focus.

Onto your damage item suggestions, most are fine, but Gem of Isolation is a bit eh... Baron still has a DoT on his 3, so he can still make decent use of the item, but it's more expensive than Ethereal Staff and E-Staff will give Baron much more survivability in fights.

And may I make it clear that the build examples I gave are not something to use every match, just generic builds that should (usually) do the job, I gave 1 example with anti-heal and 1 example without.

If you want another reference (which is similar to the second build example I gave), look at the build used here by PrettyPriMe:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qU4-9IgWgM

Support:

Your example build only has 20% CDR, and no Gauntlet of Thebes which you should really be building. Your starter also needs extra pots, I suggest Guardian's Blessing, Shoes, Baron's Brew, 3 x Healing Potions.

All I can say here is use my support builds section from here as a reference: https://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/baron-samedi-conquest-mid-solo-support-6-9-20292

(click on the pages tab > go to Page 3 (Support).)

Solo:

You don't have a solo build so I can't say anything except use my Solo build examples as a reference and the builds on this page:

https://smiteprobuilds.com/Builds?p_filters_page=1&p_filters_search=&p_filters_god=3518&p_filters_pro=~&p_filters_opponent=~&p_filters_role=Support&p_filters_league=~&p_filters_sort=~

(One more thing, look at differences in the relic choices I list for Baron Mid, and for Baron Support. I hope you realise why there ARE differences, and I don't recommend Thorns generally on Baron, not even in tanky roles - solo or support).

Thank you for everything! I will be fixing all of this later today and I will be adding the solo build to this guide.

My thoughts on the support, I was thinking either [shoes of focus],[sovereignty], [gauntlet of thebes], [lotus crown], [pythagorem's piece] [gem of isolation]. OR [shoes of focus], [gauntlet of thebes], [lotus crown], [sovereignty], [ethereal staff], [pythagorem's piece]. The last 2 can be switched as well.

Luka, you need to use double brackets for items to show up with the fancy hyperlinks:
Code:

shows: Shoes of Focus

Gem of iso isn’t that good on Baron because his only DoT ability other than his ult is his 3, which leads into a root anyway, so I don’t see the point in getting it for the slow. E-Staff is a better bruiser option for Baron especially lategame due to how much health you can steal. Onto your example builds, both lack a dedicated magical defense item, neither have Pridwen, both have only 20% CDR, these are all problems. Also I would swap the places of lotus and sov around.

why do you not give suggest any BoToth builds? Makes it seem you're not a fan off that item.

Kriega1 (86) | August 26, 2019 4:08am
Because why build Book of Thoth on Baron in Mid when he already struggles? Without Magus he barely has early game relevance, and getting Thoth just delays his potential. I mean sure you can get Magus third after getting Thoth third, but Magus is less relevant the later the game goes on. I mean fine, go a book of thoth build if you want, but I don't see the need for it. Remember Book of Thoth isn't as strong (by itself) as it was at one point last season. Im also not a massive fan of Book of the Dead (pretty decent on Hera though with Thoth), when I can just get E-Staff which got buffed recently.

Besides, mages are making good use out of proc items (Reaver, E-Staff) right now anyway.

Some mages I would build Thoth on, like Raijin if I didn't get Bancrofts into high pressure Mid matchups (like the Set Mid I went against yesterday), so I have good lategame scaling with Reaver and can melt tanks.

Hel is someone I would consider Thoth on.

Thoth himself I don't bother building book of thoth most matches because I just prefer rushing deso/divine then into the E-Staff and Reaver, or I go CDR > Divine > Chronos' > E-Staff > Obs Shard/Reaver (either order) > sell boots for Soul Gem. So I can abuse item proc effects with this build.

My suggestions, remove the mid lane build and instead replace with a solo lane one: Shoes of the Magi, Breastplate of Valor, Void Stone, Ethereal Staff, Spirit Robe, Gem of Isolation as a generic build. Starter item would either be Mage's Blessing or Guardian's Blessing (guardians blessing in solo means you damage minions but don't last hit them for the kill so you can build stacks of guardians blessing, meaning you rely on minion and/or tower assists).

Support build: Shoes of Focus, Lotus Crown, Genji's Guard, Gauntlet of Thebes, Spirit Robe, Gem of Isolation as a generic build.

Relic options ideally are: beads, aegis, teleport (solo), shell, heavenly wings.

Do not get thorns or meditation on Baron.

Having a mage in solo lane doesn't make sense to me as I have mostly seen guardians and worriors there, and having a mage in solo lane means that the jungler will have to focus mid and solo even more...and now that I think about it, that gives duo lane an advantage holy **** this is GENIUS

There are some very standard mages that play in Solo and have done for a long time. Aphrodite, Chang'e, Zhong Kui, Ah Puch, Hel, and Hades (and Baron more recently) are all historically common non-Warrior picks.

What? Have you never seen certain mages in solo before? Are you even aware of anything regarding what may or may not be meta, or what may or may not be viable in conquest?

Also I taking a mage to solo also typically means building them hybrid/tanky.

One missing item you could consider for protection would be Magi's Cloak. But if you're going Thoth (which is also nerfed and so makes it a bit of a hard sell), then BotD which you do list is perhaps a better, more aggressive item that still offers some survivability.

Bancroft's Talon isn't really an item you should consider, IMO, and especially shouldn't be core. He's already got healing, and you don't want to get absolutely shut down by anti-heal. You should instead be prioritizing Spear of the Magus earlier if you're going to go that route. If anything, it should be your 2nd item right after Shoes.

That said, I'd also probably prioritize other lifesteal items a lot less...no SG, no Pythag's, for example.

In Support, with his ramp-to-root, you should consider higher early pressure with Stone of Binding, which isn't listed anywhere for some reason. And his heal is too situational and only functional around enemy gods that Rod of Asclepius doesn't seem worth it to me.

And in your example Support build, here's where I think Spear of the Magus needs to be prioritized way less. Get it later in a build if you do pick it up, and make sure you get magical protection earlier.

Overall, though, this is a significantly better effort than some of your previous builds. You should offer a skill leveling direction, though.

Book of Thoth isn't even bad, it's just Baron mid is bad.

Baron Samedi isn't viable in Mid since the last nerfs to Baron and the nerfs to Magus and Soul Reaver (which were his core items for mid keeping him barely viable there).

As for the "support" build that has no magical defense, and has not only spear of the magus but combined with gem of iso and asclepius alltogether as one is just not giving a good impression.

I agree about the nerfs to Baron and to Soul Reaver, but Magus is still as strong. Baron just doesn't abuse it as much as Merlin or Anubis.

I didn't mean the nerfs to magus made that item not relevant, im just saying the combined nerfs of Baron Mid core items and his own nerfs made his mid lane garbage.

For the first paragraph, they messed up on these nerfs but I still see him as useful, as for the support build, the no magical defence is only because there is rarely magical players going against him in the beginning, but then again, I'll see what I can do

What about the enemy support? And the enemy mid? Or if the enemy team has a different comp and is running a magical ADC?

I know Lotus Crown provides situational magical prots, but that's no excuse to forego magical defense altogheter. If you still want to be bruiser, pick Void Stone. Otherwise, píck Genji's Guard or Oni Hunter's Garb.
