Notes

Doom Orb:

200 Mana, 145 Power and Speed, it works great with BoT and ToD. Depending on enemy team, can replace Soul Reaver or RoT. (Especially if they lack tankiness, I recommend to use it instead of Soul Reaver.)

Spear of Desolation:

110 Power, Flat 15 Pen and 10CDR is always welcomed. If enemy team has that -20CDR item can be built to reach 50CDR. I don't recommend it as a replacement of Soul Reaver, would replace Tahuti better but it's all your choice.

Divine Ruin:

A really decent amount of Power and Flat 15 Pen, definetely the best antiheal item for Hel. Strongly recommended to replace it with Tahuti, and build earlier.

Charon's Coin:

Power, Speed and %Pen so it's a good item for sure, I wouldn't buy over other options but could work against tankier teams.

Breastplate of Regrowth:

An amazing item against Physical heavy comps, Speed buff is really helpful when you are trying to escape from fast and normal/auto attack based junglers. Depending on enemy, you may build it as 3rd item.

Calamitous RoT:

You may prefer it instead of Perfected RoT, doesn't matter much really. I just personally like Perfected more especially in Soul Gem build (Good for all low CDR builds).

Warlock's Staff:

Can be built instead of Book of Thoth, not ideal with Tablet of Destinies due to its passive.

Soul Gem:

This is an important one, can replace Chronos' Pendant and it works better if you don't mind 30CDR.

Breastplate of Valor:

%20CDR, Mana and Physical Protections. Really good option to replace Chronos, especially against physical heavy enemy comps.

Lotus Sickle:

Nice supportive item, won't recommend in Conquest though.

Fae-Blessed Hoops:

Same with Lotus Sickle, can be good item for support Hel but I don't think Hel is a good support to be honest.

Some Basics

BASICS:

1- Always do your best!
2- You may miss your Light 1st, it's completely normal. You will get used to it.
3- Don't forget to heal your team mates.
4- Stay safe in early, farm well. Hel's early is kinda weak.
5- If you are a beginner do NOT play Hel as your first God / Goddess. I did this mistake and still can't increase my k/d because of my first games. She's not easy.
6- Stay calm and relax. Nothing is easy at first, you will get better with time.
7- Don't be toxic, don't mind toxic people.

Important Note: Please Read Optional Items Notes.

Note: Feel free to ask me anything about Hel on reddit. u/ArdowNota or u/ProfessorHel

Note: I am not exactly sure about Skill Sequence but as long as you focus on 1 and 3 equally it should be fine. 2 also has some good debuff which is really helpful against tanks and 4 buff is good as well. Changing it a little doesn't matter.

Note: Tablet of Destinies seems to work fine but I'm not 100% sure about it, please do replace it with an optional item if you are struggling with it.

Special thanks to u/ILuhBlahPepuu , u/Fullmetalchef13 and Kriega1. Also I'm still working on a Breastplate of Valor build against physical teams, thanks u/Outso187 for the idea.

Abilities and Combos

Decay - Restoration

Decay is nothing pecial, Hel fires an orb that explodes if it hits enemy gods or reaches its max range. Restoration is kind of the same, Hel fires an orb that heals ally gods but it doesn't explode, also deals damage to enemy gods.
Dark Damage: 60/110/160/210/260 (+60% of your Magical Power)
Light Ally Heal: 55/70/85/100/115 + 5 per level
Light Self Heal: 55/70/85/100/115 + 5 per level
Light Mana Heal: 55/70/85/100/115
Light Damage: 60/110/160/210/260 (+50% of your Magical Power)

Hinder - Cleanse

Hinder is a 3 seconds of slow and debuff, it's really important for your combo because of build's lack of penetration, Hinder fills the gap perfectly and allows you to not focus on penetration (always build some though). Cleanse is even better, it's an AoE CC Clean which counters Ares, Daji etc ultis perfectly.
Dark Protections Debuff: 5/10/15/20/25 + 10%
Dark Slow: 20/25/30/35/40%
Light CC Immunity Duration: 1.5s

Repulse - Inspire

Repulse is simple, area damage to all nearby enemies. Inspire is a little more complicated, it heals you instantly and heals nearby allies (including minions) over time. Buffs your speed for 25% and allies for 10%. Hel and allies also gain 20% Attack Speed while the buff is active. No, Hel ADC doesn't work (for now).
Dark Damage: 70/120/170/220/270 (+75% of your Magical Power)
Light Self Heal: 45/60/75/90/105 + 6.5 per level
Light Heal per Tick: 7/9/11/13/15 + 1.1 per level
Light Movement Speed: 25%
Light Duration: 5s

Switch Stances

It makes you... switch stances. Also provides some buffs depending on your stance and mana regen buff. Buffs gained from Switch Stances are shared with allied gods within 30 units.
Dark Magical Power: 30/40/50/60/70
Light Magical and Physical Protections: 13/16/19/22/25
MP5: 15/20/25/30/35

Passive

Another buff. When Hel is in a stance, she gradually attunes to the strengths of that stance, gaining up to 20% increased damage in the Dark Stance and an Aura that reduces power of enemy Gods within 55 units by up to 12% while in the Light Stance. Smite's website says it is 8% but it's buffed with 10.4 patch, they forgot to update the website.

1v1 Combo

2-1-3-4-1
1- Debuff your enemy with your Dark 2nd,
2- Fire your 1st while chasing,
3- You should be close enough to use 3rd thanks to 2nd slow,
4- After hitting your Dark 3rd switch to Light,
5- Fire your light 1st,
6.1- Enemy should be dead unless you miss or the enemy is too tanky.
6.2- If they are not dead and you are in a bad position use your 2 to not get CC'ed there and 3 to heal youself and gain speed to run away.

How To Play

Early Game

* Her early is a little weak, stay safe.
* Finish your stacks as soon as possible, if there are any.
* Place wards.
* You may start with either your 1st or 3rd but 3rd is better for that 3 camps start in my opinion, AoE helps a lot.

Mid Game

* Hel starts to shine here, if you are doing well you may want to rotate other lanes since you have a great speed buff from your light 3rd.
* If you are not doing fine, focus on farming because late game is the most important.
* Try to participate in team fights, but don't forget about objectives.

Late Game

* Group Up! Attack!
* Use your Cleanse wisely, wait for Ares/Daji/Tian etc ults.
* Heal your team as much as you can.
* Don't act like a frontliner but also don't stay back and spam 1st. You will learn how to position in time, it's not something you can learn by reading a guide.

Pros & Cons

Pros

* High Healing Compared to Others.
* High AoE Damage
* AoE CC Clean
* Protection Remove
* Fast (Thanks to her Light 3rd)
* COOKIES?!

Cons

* Glass Cannon
* Recent Healing Nerf, She's Still Good Though.
* No Ultimate
* Week Early
* No Escape Ability

Other Items Notes Just In Case If You Can't View It (IMPORTANT)(KIND OF OUTDATED)

Doom Orb:

Good early item for movement speed and high power. You may replace it with BoT or ToD if you want.

I’ve been playing support with her lately and it’s not too bad. I do sentinels into embrace , prophetic, Thebes and spirit robe. After that you decide. That gives above 300 ports each, 600 total, giving 15% damage mitagtions constantly and 15% more every 15 seconds from spirit. If you go lotus and maybe a sovereign you got insane mitagation and survive to heal.

Thanks for your comment, This build is not up do date right now. I'm busy with studying for my finals. With the new patches, Hel became a really good support and has a nice winrate/pickrate in SPL. I'm using a build like Sentinels - Prophetic - Thebes - Lotus - Asclepius - Flex (with CDR) so yours is pretty good. Will update the build within a week or two.

Edit: I updated the build 21/05/23

Tablet of Destinies is not good btw atm. Best Current Mid build is Pendulum, Thoth, Divine, Soul Gem, Coin, Reaver.

Can maybe see going Lotus Sickle over Soul Gem.

VermilionTR | January 28, 2023 12:50pm
Thanks for your suggestions, I was already working on something like that so added a new V2 build. I believe early CDR is important so swapped Soul Gem with Divine and replaced Coin with Tahuti because Hel already has a pretty decent amount of penetration from her dark 2nd (Recently buffed). I agree with your build being the best current mid build though, just Hel doesn't need that much of penetration due to her 2nd.

I am also not 100% sure about Tablet of Destinies but seems doing pretty well in my opinion, especially against squishies with Thoth+Orb. Of course it wouldn't work that good against a balanced enemy comp.

Lotus is fine but wouldn't build over Soul Gem or Chronos' Pendant (I know Chronos' Pendant is weak right now but it's passive is incredibly good for Hel). I explained many other optional items in Notes section as well.

Again, Thank you for your suggestions.

The new buff from her 2 is 10% prot reduction and is not additive with % penetration

One thing I don't like about this build is the skill order. Her 2 is a set up for her 1 and 3. It can also be used as a huge help in team battles.
1
Kriega1 (143) | December 11, 2021 2:32pm
Yeah you should be doing 3 (or 1) > 1 (or 3) > 1 (or 2) > 2 (or 1 if 2 before) > 4. Then maxing 1 > 3 > 2 > 4.
1
Branmuffin17 (394) | May 12, 2022 10:32am
I would still agree w/ this order. I don't know that I'd delay the 2 until level 6, though I get the reasons for doing so.
1
CookieTheBest | December 26, 2021 5:05am
I have to disagree with you
2
Big Damage (37) | May 28, 2021 11:33pm
I have to downvote as there is 0% penetration in a mid mage build. You need minimum 30% for a cookie cutter build like this. To follow your current builds goals I would suggest:

Sands of Time > Shoes of Focus > Spear of Desolation / Divine Ruin > Soul Gem > Rod of Tahuti > Obsidian Shard > Pendulum of Ages > Swap boots for Mantle of Discord

I would normally recommend Charon's Coin > Rod of Tahuti but with the MP5 from your passive this gives you a total of 99MP5 late game. If you wanted Book of Thoth still then maybe start T2 Book of Souls and do this:

Book of Thoth > Shoes of Focus > Breastplate of Valor / Chronos' Pendant > Rod of Tahuti > Obsidian Shard > Gem of Focus > Swap boots for Soul Gem / Mantle of Discord

This build caps your MP5, gives you a lot of mana to use but instead of opting for Pendulum of Ages it opens you up to Gem of Focus, which feels great on Hel because she generally spams abilities and can make great use of the passive effects.
(If you go Breastplate then get Soul Gem, if you get Chronos' then get Mantle)

Aside from those points about the builds, I also wouldn't suggest:

Thanks for this. I just got back in after 2 years without playing, and this was quite helpful. I've moved on from it, but it was certainly a helpful refresher/starting point while I got used to the game again.

Let me fill you in on what to do against Anubis:
Pretty much the deal against him is just like with a Hades he will heavily out pressure you. Combine this with Hel weaker early game and having to get close to minions, will result in a harder early lane. On top of that, he can kill anyone that gets mummified if his ult is up. The last problem a lot of people have is the healing he gets from lifesteal. The only disadvantage that he trades in for this is his immobility since he roots himself during 2 abilities and has no escape.

So from this, we have some goals when playing against him.
The first one is to predict and dodge as many Mummifys as we can. Since you're playing Hel, you also have the goal of cleansing them from your jungler. This becomes especially important if Anubis has his ultimate up.

The second important early game goal is (like with any god) to not let him get kills. Compared to other mages, he can snowball pretty harshly with some early kills. Part of this lies in not taking to much unnecessary poke. As Hel your best moment to clear the wave is after he used his Grasping Hands.

The last early game goal normally depends on the strength of the jungler. Since Anubis is immobile bad positioning can easily kill him. However, since Hel early game is pretty bad I would recommend the jungler to play safe and not gank if his ult or mummify is up.

The last goal during a game against Anubis is pretty simple: get anti-heal. This is also the reason he falls of late. A lot of damage dealers can outburst Anubis lifesteal if he is affected by anti-heal. Do keep in mind that multiple sources work best against this and are needed if he grabs Typhon's Fang.

Kriega1 (143) | June 20, 2020 3:30am
What are you talking about “Hel weak early game”? Do you even play her?
2
Big Damage (37) | June 20, 2020 3:32pm
She has a weird power curve, whereas Anubis is more a a slope starting higher up and going downwards, Hel is a curvy/wavy power curve. She can hit pretty hard for the first 4 levels and then it's mana and mobility issues from there on out, even if she does get an early snowball for her power to be relevant mid game until around 25-30 mins into the game.

Hide of urchin good on her in mid lane? Better than mantle?
1
Kriega1 (143) | June 19, 2020 1:24pm
Better than Mantle? probably not. But you build Urchin for a different reason, just general tankiness. Mantle is for utility (though prots helps against frontliners and junglers that haven't build titans/exe).

I dont really build Urchin on Hel or any mids though.
