Hey guys so i am still a considreably newbie to smite, but i am a veteran so to speak in MOBA type games, Dota2, LoL, HoN and now on my way to being one on smite :D
So i have been playing smite pretty much since like first release of it to the public ever, but i have been playing on and off. Anyway enough backstory lets get to Zeus!
PROS
+ High sustained damage (Like an AD carry but magic)
+ High burst damage
+ Good duelling potential
+ Snowball effect is really high
+ VERY HIGH early damage
CONS
- Very squishy if always focused
- High Cooldowns
- Can be hard to come back if behind
- Need to have good aim to be effective in lane
So i've been playing Zeusie for a few weeks non-stop, and i think i found a perfect core build for him. Hes like an attack speed mage with thunder bolts of frickin death. So the 4 main items are Polynomicon, Shoes of the Magi, Demonic grip and Obsidian shard, what theese 4 items do is provide you with PROS) nice attack speed, good magic power, a bit of lifesteal for nice sustain and a lot of penetration. MEANING you will do a lot of damage, from your spears, will allow you to quickly charge them up and rain down thunder on all your foes. NOW the last 2 items are really REALLY situational for me anyway, If you want to make sure no one runs away from you and you want to go full damage just refer to the build in the guide up above. What the build provides is HELLA big damage, fast bolt action and once you do detonate everything dies.CONS) It is a little squishy if you do not make use of your detonation skill and cant land the bolts, and if you were to max your Q over W it would be extreemly squishy il cover that later.
Other wise there are other situational builds:
(Im sorry i dont know how to add pictures so its all going to be just names of the items.)
So if you need like some sort of physical defence and some health items go for a Wall of absolution, it is great combined with Zeus' shield its really great against carries etc.
Also if you feel like you need some extra health go for a gem of isolation/binding. I myself would always go for binding as i hit a lot of my AA's and it has a better consistency but if your not as good with your AA's get isolation but with zeus its preffered gem of binding i think.
Now if youre facing a magic heavy team or enemy mid or someone is fed with a lot of magic damage, you can subsittue Spear of the Magus into a Telkhines Ring, it will give you nice magic protection, will STILL provide you with good magic damage and also attack speed and with its unique passive you will do A LOT of damage with your bolts.
If youre in a situation where you need to make sure that one person needs to die ASAP you can go for a Soul reaver, most of zeus power comes from getting 3 stacks on his passive and if you cast detonation and keep hitting with the attack speed boosted bolts you will do INSANE single target damge. BUT with an extra kick from the Souler Reaver you can make sure you tanks melt away or even if in an AOE team fight situation it would help you destroy the guy with a lot of health once you cast your ult/ detonation.
ABLITIES
Now i don't know much about other players builds or their ability order but here is the explanation of mine.
Due to the fact that with the build that i use being really FULL DAMAGE, go in kill go out for a few seconds, you need to make sure you do as much damage in a short period of time as possible and surviving only to go in and do it all again in a few seconds.
So i max me Detonation first, because i can charge my passive to 3 stacks really quickly stun do some more constant dmg and jsut insta kill anyone in my sight. Secondly, although your Chain lightning can do a lot of damage the best use for it is in my opinion is to get some extra charges on your passive or get the last 3rd passive if youre chasing someone without reducing your movement speed. SO you should max your detonate, high burst and stun, and your aegis shield second, reason for this it gives you a charge apply to the enemy once you are hit, it gives 10% reflection of basic attacks, and also the resistance scale, meaning more you level it up more resistance it will provide and increased movement speed.
SO lets walk you through how to use theese abilities in a way i have made it with my build. Lets say youre around level 11, you have your detonation maxed out your shield pumped up at level 3 lightning storm lvl 2 youre good to take anyone on. SO what this does is lets say in a fighting scenarion you get ganked by a jungler from behind and your mid laner solo laner form front come in onto you, YOU FIRST activate your shield the ganker should get one stack applied to him already, cast your chain lightning try get maybe one stack on the mid laner aim your ult down to get both land afew aa's get them stunned whilst theyre stunned your ult should do more damage, pick one squishier enemy preferable Auto attack it a few times and you should be able to insta kill them and probably finish off the second person.
SO in summary, Zeus is all about making sure you get your charges.
IMPORTANT TIP!!!!
If you do get 3 charges on your enemy and theyre still in your range to be attacked keep auto attacking them UNLESS : A) you take a lot of dmg from them B) Theyre getting out of your auto attack range. THEN you stun them catch up to them, and can do it all over again. ALSO with 3 stacks you do increased magic damage, so your bolts will do HELLA alot of damage.
Anyway this is my first guide i tried going into as much detail as i could, i still dont know the game fully well and theres probably without a doubt a lot of flaws all around. Please go through it and tell me what you think!
ENJOY YOUR SPEEDY GONZALESS LIGHTNING MACHINE GUN BOLTING ZEUS :)
With zeus what you want to do is try to be as aggressive as you can early game. By having your Detonate maxing first you will do INCREDIBLE damage once you get 3 stacks on. Zeus doesnt have great wave clear, so just try to last hit and focus on poking out your enemy laner with every chance you can get. Once you hit around lv 6+ start going around small camps pushing your lane by using all your abilities, and starting to roam. MAKE SURE if you are getting a bit ahead youre forcing out your enemy to make sure you ward always around your lane. If you have enough for 2 wards after you go back, get it. VISION > Anything else. If you have vision you will be able to make a play to get a double kill, or to just run away and survive, anything is possible with vision.
Also you should always try to get a blue buff once youre lv 5-6+ and you start to roam around, and farm mini camps.
Also one really big tip, try to get the meditation active not ASAP but as soon as you can, by having this you get a heal and you get insta mana, this means with your kit as zeus you can bait a lot of kills and walk out with just a scratch on your arm.
Always try to make sure if youre getting ganked to use your shield when youre close to someone in order to get some charges/stacks off on your passive turn around a bit cast chain lightning one aa and you can now stun them. Your shield is a great escape and defensive tool that leveling it up gives you great advantages.
Similarl principle applies to Combat Blink, try and get it pretty soon, first finish building your items, you want to generally have it after you have your 3rd item, you should have mediation and combat blink, maybe after 4th item up to you. Meditation and Combat blink give you a lot of potential for survivability against ganks, it allows you to initiate good ganks, allows for you to bait fights in your favour, and it is a great escape mechanism.

I'll make an exception to this. If you get a little farmed early (1-2 easy kills, with one being first blood.) going Ring first isn't bad. It hurts your late game a bit, but makes your early harassment unmanageable. One basic with all three stacks applied will literally take 1/4 of their health, which means they're dead after everything is said and done.
With that said, you can also sell it later for a Gem of Binding or to help finish Rod.
Okay, first up, you have too many penetration items and they don't sync with each other. The %-based penetration is based on the god's current protections. So, lets say, if you stack someone with Demonic Grip 3 times, Obsidian Shard won't stack on to that and make it 54% penetration, it'll grant you 33% penetration over the current reduced protections by demon girp. Same goes to Spear of the Magus. These items are just not effective together. I'd recommend only one, and most of the times, demon grip + Shoes of the Magi.
Telkhines Ring is a bad choice for him. I don't know if you know it already, but his 1/1/.5/.5x auto attack swing has been removed. It is now 1 all the time. And the bonus 40 power is useless when clearing waves and fighting gods when you can have items like Gem of Binding or Fatalis to help you out a lot more. Needless to say, this item is useless in the late game.
Soul Reaver doesn't fit Zeus very well. It is more suited for gods with heavy hitting ultimates, like Vulcan and his Earthshaker, Poseidon and his Release The Kraken!, Ao Kuang with his spirit's tempest etc. It is meant for literaly 100-0 enemies with a single ability. Zeus is more about auto attacks and that Chain Lightning and Lightning Storm. Until you get 3 charges onto someone to detonate them, you've probably used another ability.
meditation is just a bad active. And Zeus isn't mana hungry. And you should put other actives, such as Purification Beads, Aegis Amulet or Aegis Pendant and sprint.
Wall of Absolution isn't a good physical protection choice as Breastplate of Valor is. The 30 magical power is bested by the 25% CDR and the physical defense is almost identical. And if you do get hit by basic attacks for Wall's passive, you have aegis shield for that.
I'd recommend more items such as Bancroft's Talon, focused voidstone and Fatalis and Gem of Binding or Gem of Isolation as I've mentioned Before. Also, like Chiulin said, rod of tauhti is a must in any Mage build that isn't support.
And how about some situational items? such as Divine Ruin if you see an enemy team with lots of healers and sustain-based gods?
Skills
The skills are.. off... I don't know how I feel about leveling aegis shield instead of Chain Lightning after Detonate Charge. And Lightning Storm shouldn't even be leveled past level 5 untill you finish leveling Detonate Charge and Chain Lightning, as it's damage scales only by 20 per hit, and it's mostly about applying those charges.
And you do not explain the skills as good and as clearly as you should. And yes, the tip you gave is a correct and useful one, but what about others, like being able to Chain Lightning via Loki's decoy or Vulcan's Inferno Cannon? and that immediately as you see a Hunter or a Chronos or Freya, you should pop up your aegis shield?
Also, I don't see how Zeus having abilities on 8,15 & 10 seconds cooldowns is considered a god with long cooldowns... they are pretty short.
This guide is also, dull... it has absolutely zero BB coding, which makes it unpleasant and unwelcoming to read.
Summary
This guide is not good. The build is awkward and recommends bad items and item combos, the skills are just off, by a mile away... there is no BB coding, there are no in depth and clear explanations... Needless to say you do not explain your role in team fights and where to be positioned etc.
A downvote from me.
