Intro

Hi everyone, this is my first guide, but I thought this build was interesting and was wanting to see what other people's opinion of it was.

First off, I'd like to say that since I earned my first 5500 favor, I've been playing Sun Wukong almost exclusively. I love the hero, his kit, even his hairdo.

Secondly, I must point out that I play Wukong as a Solo laner, whether mid or one of the sides if there's a jungler.

I've tried some of the other builds I found here on Smitefire and though they were good, I felt I was lacking in either damage or defense, depending on the build used. Furthermore, with the latest patch, both Focused Voidblade and Jotunn's Wrath which were my core items got nerfed so I decided to look for other options. After messing around a bit, I came up with this build, which I feel has tons of Physical Power, some good penetration, cooldown reduction which is very important for Wukong, and some defense.

Without further ado...

Items

Early Game

Early game I start off with Teleport and Hand of the Gods actives, Tabi, and 4 health and 2 mana potions. I find that having these items allows me to sustain adequately during the early game. The Hand of the Gods helps clear waves, while meditate and the two mana potions allow you to spam The Magic Cudgel to harass and last hit creeps. Teleport is helpful as it allows me to play safe and back when necessary and be back in the lane immediately and thus not miss out on xp and gold.

Mid-Game
The core for the build is Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath and Transcendence. Warrior Tabi is an obvious pick because of the Physical Power and attack speed it provides and the physical penetration is crucial as you won't be getting the Titan's bane until very late game.

Transcendence has a solid 35 Physical power, but what really makes it shine is the 3% mana into physical power, and here's why: a Wukong at lvl 10 has a mana pool of 500 (approximately). With an unstacked Transcendence, you gain 300 mana, putting you at 800. Therefore, when you complete your Transcendence, you don't gain 35 physical power, you actually gain 59, which along with your boots, puts you at nearly 90 physical power with only 2 items.

If you add in the Jotunn's Wrath, that's more mana, 40 more physical power and 25% cooldown reduction which is insanely strong for wukong. With this core build, you can harass continually with no fear of running out of mana, high cdr means your 72 Transformations bird should always be up, and your high physical power should provide you with plenty of kill opportunities or be enough of a deterrent to keep enemies at bay until you can get ganks.

Unfortunately, buying a couple health potions every time you back is a necessity as you don't have much in the way of health sustain. However, once you get your Devourer's Gloves you can easily smack a couple minions around to get most of your health back.

Late-game
As mid-late game approaches, Devourer's Gloves will give you some much needed sustain through lifesteal and boost your damage tremendously. The only difficulty here is that you have to farm up both your Transcendence and [Devourer's Gloves]]. If you think you can manage without the cooldown reduction from Jotunn's Wrath you may want to get both Transcendence and Devourer's Gloves early and thus stack them together. Generally though, I feel it is safer to get the Jotunn's first and then worry about stacking the Devourer's Gloves later.

After the Devourer's Gloves, I tend to get 1 defensive item, based on the enemies I'm facing. My personal favorite is Hide of the Urchin as it provides both magical and physical protection, health, and even some mana to slightly boost your physical power. Also, the passive is exceedingly easy to stack as it works with either kills or assists. You will have 65 to each defense in no time, and if your health drops, your passive activates giving you not only the aforementioned boost to your damage, but also a boost to your defenses by another 20 - 30.

At the end of the game, I pick up a Titan's Bane in order to make my damage pierce through some of the physical defense that most gods will have by now. Not much more to say here. It makes you hit hard, which makes you heal harder and them die faster. It's good.

Additional Options
Sometimes, games do not go exactly as you expect them to and it is important to be able to be flexible with your build, your team and the enemy team. Although the core of the build should not change very much, the other items should be changeable in order to best adapt to the different situations that each game provides.

For example, if during a game you quickly get ahead, get several kills and you feel like you can get away with a complete carry build, you can try something like this:
, , , Devourer's Gloves, Focused Voidblade,

However, if you are getting killed often, or the enemy has too much burst or cc for you to be able to output good damage without some defense, you may try something like this:
, , , Devourer's Gloves, ,

Finally, against high-healing opponents, Brawler's Beat Stick is a good item to use, whether replacing Devourer's Gloves or Titan's Bane.

Actives
Additionally, your second active aside from Hand of the Gods is very flexible depending on your playstyle. Hand of the Gods is helpful for the wave clear and the help it gives you in farming your two stacking items, Transcendence and Devourer's Gloves. In end-game, the Fist of the Gods will help you stunlock opponents as you go to town on them: Master's Will >> Fist of the Gods >> Cudgel >> 72 Transformations: Tiger >> Master's Will >> Cudgel. It's one hell of a combo.

MeditationI have experimented some with Meditation which can be surprisingly good due to the heal. In 1v1 situations, you can take advantage of your Undefeated Body passive and when you are about to drop, use Meditation to regain all your mana and nearly 30% of your health, allowing you to keep the passive active and keep fighting with the increased defenses and crit chance. Most of the time this will give you enough of an edge to win the fight or escape for good if you can't make it. However, given the amounts of mana you will have, the mana heal is not that useful past the very early game.

If you are against enemies that have very high healing capabilities and do not want to take the Brawler's Beat Stick, the Weakening Curse is a good option for helping you get that elusive kill as it reduces their movespeed and nullifies their healing. Just beware of the area of effect when you decide to use it, make sure they are slowed / stunned or you can hold them in there long enough for it to make a difference.

TeleportThis is the recommended second active for this guide, as it allows you to play safe and not over-stay in lane for fear of losing xp / gold / tower. Additionally, it is useful in that it allows you to cover for allies if they're down or gank if they need help.

These are other good options as they allow you to get out of sticky situations. However, your ult also lets you become immune to certain abilities, so if you're careful you shouldn't need these.

Skills

You're probably better off reading the skill descriptions in-game than on this web page. Also, I'm too lazy to copy them in.

Now, regarding the skill leveling order, my order is:
The Magic Cudgel >> 72 Transformations >> Master's Will >> Somersault Cloud.

The only exception is that I grab Somersault Cloud immediately at level 5 and then don't level it again until all other skills are maxed out.

Why?

I think that in the laning phase, Magic Cudgel is your best option: harass, low cooldown, good damage, low mana cost.

  • Once you have your Transcendence complete, you should be able to hit the enemy archers once with this and once with Master's Will and they're all dead, which will help you farm up your stacks.
  • Enemy is running?... Magic Cudgel to the back of the head. Love it. Also, remember that this ability can hit through walls, so lead the enemy with your cudgel and watch them run into it.
  • A useful tip for when using this spell is that, even after you cast it, you can still change the direction before it lands. This is especially useful when in close combat, as enemies are constantly moving. Cast the spell, but remember you can still twitch your mouse in the direction of the enemy while the stick is in the air in order to ensure a hit.

This skill is what makes Wukong awesome. In the laning phase, if there's a gank, if you´re in trouble, if you need to get back to tower quickly, hawk form is your man. Well... your bird, in any case. If they're pushing your tower hard, you can use ox form to damage minions and knock enemies away, which usually makes them doubt their push for a little while. Just don't follow outside of your tower... scare 'em, cancel ox form, and run back into tower. Tiger form is your kill securer, chaser, high damage dealer. In order to maximize damage and lower the cooldown, I max this second.
  • Remember that both Ox form and Tiger form have low turn radiuses for their speed. Smart enemies will use this to their advantage by side stepping instead of just running away from you which may make this move harder to land. Keep this in mind, especially when the enemy is facing you (as this gives them time to react, making it even harder for you).
  • A useful tip here is trying to lead the target, anticipating to what side he may dodge and heading in that direction. If he does not dodge, then you can turn the side of your tiger at them, hitting them anyway, intercepting them, if you will.
  • In a gank, if the enemy has high health, initiate with The Magic Cudgel followed by Master's Will, not 72 Transformations. This is because most enemies have some form of escape or speed mechanism. Hit them with the two other skills, watch them jump, and THEN chase them with tiger form. By the time that stun is over, your Magic Cudgel and Master's Will should be off-cooldown soon.
  • If the enemy does have low health, start with tiger form, land the stun, and auto-attack until the stun is about to end. Right before it ends, use Master's Will, auto-attack again, and as they start running, follow up with Magic Cudgel.

This one is really nice and helpful, but Magic Cudgel is safer for harassing and 72 transformations is 100% more versatile. However, once you max all three of these skills, the damage that they do together is fantastic.
  • I recommend not using instant cast for this skill mostly because as you chase, it is very useful to know when the enemy is in the range of the skill for it to knock them up.
  • Keep in mind that many enemies have resistances to knockups during certain times, so don't waste this move when they are golden, shiny, jumping or giant. Know your enemies.
  • This skill hits in a circle around you, so if you are being chased, time the skill so that it lands just before they manage to hit you / right after they jump onto you as you keep running.

I level Somersault Cloud only once at level 5 because don't get me wrong, it's a good ultimate, but you don't get a whole lot out of leveling it other than increasing the damage on your landing.
  • To be honest, I mostly use this ultimate to escape, when I'm low on health or am about to get hit by some stun (Fenrir bite, Neith arrow) or excecute (Thanatos Hovering Death)in order to become immune, then jump into the sky, heal up and have them deal with your clone.
  • If things turn to your favor, look for an opportunity to jump back in with all your cooldowns back and finish the fight. If not, jump as far from them as possible and fly out of there with eagle form.
  • As soon as I ult, I hover my targetting reticle over the fight, looking for targets that may be burstable and enjoying the heal. If after a second or two it seems that winning the fight is no likely, I aim as far away as possible and land there.
  • Remember you can jump over walls if the distance is adequate. This will disorient the enemy and ensure your escape.

Gameplay

This guide is for a Solo-Lane High-Damage Bruiser Sun Wukong. Your purpose is to finish early game with your core complete and hopefully zero deaths. Your time to shine should be mid to late game when your damage becomes very strong, your mobility makes you nearly impossible to kill and team-fights / pushes are more common.

Early-Game

During the early game, by virtue of being Wukong and because of the nature of this build, you are better off playing defensively. Your focus should be on last hitting minions, not getting pushed, and not dying. If you can harass your enemy with cudgel while clearing minion waves, you are in a good spot, but it is not your priority.

If you have a jungler, try asking him if you can take the blue mana buff early game. Usually junglers are more interested in speed / damage buff and will allow you to take the blue. This will be immensely helpful as you are sure to have mana issues at the very early game before you complete your [[Transcendence]. You should use your HoG on this blue camp in order to minimize the damage that you and your jungler take.

Try to use Hand of the Gods to clear the front creep waves as your The Magic Cudgel and Master's Will should be able to handle the archers.

If you need to go back to base, try to expend most of your mana, use HotG, and try to push the creep waves towards your enemy's tower (safely, don't get caught out!). Then, back under your tower, buy a couple health potions and only use teleport if the enemy is getting near to your tower.

Once you get your Transcendence, gauge whether you want to rush for Devourer's Gloves and stack both of them together, or play it safe and choose Jotunn's Wrath for the increased Cooldown Reduction.

At this point, you should be able to lay down some strong harass and possibly push in for a kill. To do this, get your enemy's health low via The Magic Cudgel. Then, try to kill off the melee creeps and then rush at your enemy. Use [[Hand of the Gods] to clear the archers and minimize the damage that you will take from them. Once they're dead, use Master's Will to knock the enemy up, auto-attack and if they are low / running, follow with 72 Transformations. If they are willing to stand and trade blows, make sure you are watching your health and his carefully. If you think they will come out ahead, save your 72 transformations for eagle to get out of there.

Above all, try to play safely and make sure you get to the mid-game with your core complete and ready to start racking up kills.

Mid-Game
Once Mid-game rolls around you should have your core complete as well as your Devourer's Gloves. Initially what you will want to do is start pushing towards the enemy tower (buying a ward to watch your back is important), and watching for opportunities to gank wherever possible. Your high damage and mobility will help your team score kills, and even if you don't get them yourself, assists will help you get gold / xp and get ahead.

As mid-game progresses, your role is to push and farm up your stackable items, take towers, and pick off lone pushers from the other team. During team-fights, remember that you don't have a whole lot in terms of defense / health, so your participation should be mainly poking through The Magic Cudgel, peeling with Master's Will and 72 Transformations, and going in to confirm kills with Tiger form and your amazing damage.

Late-Game
During the late-game, if everything went well, you should have a positive Kill - Death ratio and hopefully be doing enough damage in order to burst people down or have them running for their lives. However, as late-game rolls in, solo (1v1) engagements become less common and as everyone rounds out their builds, tanks get excessively tanky and other casters / hunters / bruisers start pumping out loads of damage. Therefore, you have to be much more selective of your engagements.
In team fights it's not a good idea to dive in first unless you know that they don't have the burst or cc to kill you before you can ult. Stay with your team, peel for them if necessary via tiger / ox / master's will, look for opportunities to smack with your stick and wait for good kill opportunities, don't rush it.
Tanks: In general, ignore tanks unless they are pushed very close to your towers and you can account for the rest of their team members. If you engage a tank, you won't burst him soon, and if backup comes, you're probably dead.
Hunters: You should be able to burst down hunters if they are alone, but you have to play carefully and make sure you save your cc's and ult for their disengages, stuns, etc. Be very careful of their high damage, and try to run around them and get at their back. Save 72 transformations in order to close distance and stun, or to get away if you realize their damage is too much for you.
Casters: Watch their cooldowns, try to catch them unawares, move un-predictably, circle around them, keep close and watch your health. Be very careful, their burst can be too much for you to handle late game.
Bruisers: Try to be aggressive, keep them on their toes and use your cudgel and master's will as much as you can. Be very careful with your use of 72 transformations if your ult is down because, if you use it for a stun and aren't doing enough damage, you have to wait at least 10 seconds before you can use it to get away. If your ult is up, use it early if you think you can win the fight as using it early will allow your copy to have more health and end up doing more damage.

Conclusion

Umm... not sure what else to say.

Playing Wukong is fun. He's strong as hell, does great damage, is mobile and versatile, has good cc, chases well. He is a very cool hero and, if played correctly, can carry teams to victory through his high damage, crowd control and amazing mobility.

I want to take this opportunity to thank some of the people that commented on the guide for their feedback. Based on some of it I have made some changes and I hope that the guide has improved. Let me know what else I can do to improve this guide! Thanks!

Edit: Revised my review.

Build

Meditation is a terrible item, other than that it seems alright. Also, you put teleport because the active doesn't have an image, right?

Item Explanations

Unfortunately, this section suffers from both unorganized data (better if you just talk about the items separately, not in a wall of text) and but the explanations aren't half bad. Main problem is that lifesteal isn't that important when laning phase ends.

Skill Explanations

Good job on The Magic Cudgel, but you need to go more in-depth on 72 Transformations and Somersault Cloud. For example, Bull Form is your initiation skill, not your tiger form. You didn't even describe Master's Will at all, and I find that skill trememdously useful for disruption in teamfights.

Guiding/Gameplay

Pretty good. I'm impressed, you give a lot more than most guides. BUT YOU STILL NEED A TEAMFIGHT SECTION!!!

I think a good section would be knowing when to use your basics and when to use an ability, since Sun Wukong's mana consumption has been nerfed since they increased the cost on his The Magic Cudgel.

Details

Lots of text walls, somewhat disorganized data. No pros and cons and other flavor stuff, but those aren't necessary.

Summary

There is some good info here, and I can see you've improved a lot. I'll upvote in good faith.

Hey, thanks alot to both of you for the feedback. I had already made some changes to the guide but I was only hitting save, not publish so apparently they weren't showing up.

Let me know what you think!

Hey, look at this Your text to link here.... You can put pictures for items and abilities.
Im gonna try this build out, but for now, it looks fine to me, for your first guide :)

Your build is ok, i guess, but there are a few holes, foe example, why get meditation of you already buy some mana potions and get Transcendence as you second item? it's a waste of an active. You will fare better with Teleport to Towers or aegis or smoething else...

eye of retaliation isn't the best pick, I must say. It very expensive and doesn't give you that much lifesteal. In my opinion, devourer's gloves are better, as they are quite cheap and when fully stacked give you twice as much lifesteal as eye does, plus an more initial power., but that doesn't matter much. What does matter is that do you find yourself 'boxing' with people as Sun Wukong? Because you do not get lifesteal from skills as a physical, only from basic attacks.

You didn't mention anythingabout anti-healers items, like Brawler's Beat Stick, Pestilence or the might weakening cure.

There is abolutely no BBcoding in this guide. It's quite dull to look at. No colors, images, rules, nothing. I suggest you look into this link: https://www.smitefire.com/smite/forum/build-guide-discussion/help-with-bb-coding-for-guides-2024 for BBcoding help. It just boring to look at a 'dry' guide.

You do explain skills decently.

There is nothing here about how to play as wukong, in the sense that where is your place in a team fight, any advice against enemies, the game phases, nothing. Are you a support? A carry? what is your role in Smite?

Overall, this guide is quite dull without any twist and there is nothing to it.
Sorry for the harsh criticism, but, it is what it is. Nobodt starts with a perfect guide. It's your first, and I'm sure you will get better, don't stop.

A downvote from me, and I hope you will learn and make better ones in the future.
