Pros and cons

Pros

    Very tanky Bruiser
    Hard to kill
    Decent steady damage
    Great escape
    Fun ult

Cons
    Low burst damage
    Ult is hard to control
Not that great in team battles, or people will want you to play someone else in ranked

Item order

Start out buying MARK OF THE VANGUARD, GIRDLE OF MIGHT, and 5 mana/ Health pots.
this should last you till 5 or 7.

When you go back, purchase beads depending on your enemy's team (Ares Hades).
If you are not laneing against something that requires you to get beads buy REINFORCED BOOTS.

I usually have 2 mana pots on me at all times untill I complete BREASTPLATE OF VALOR because it is easy to burn through mana

After boots I almost always go BREASTPLATE OF VALOR. The physical protection is killer against physical carrys. Cooldown reduction and mana are also very beneficial.

The next item is flexible. I usually go for FROSTBOUND HAMMER or SOUL EATER depending on who I am Laneing against. If I have two physical carrys in my lane I will grab VOIDBLADE

If I am getting ripped into by magic damage I will pick BULWARK OF HOPE up. It has decent magic protection, lots of health, and its passive has saved me many times waiting for the cool down of clear the path. I usually grab this forth because using clear the path i can usually escape and mage damage early game.

VOIDBLADE is a must for Vamana. With his passive this item gives you + 42 physical power, penetration, and more physical defense. I usually pick it up earlier if i am facing a lot of physical carrys.

Your last item depends of different situation as well. I will grab DEATHBRINGER if I'm doing a good job surviving and want to kick up my damage a bit. If need more surviveability I will go SOUL EATER. the extra health and life steal is very nice. IF you ult with any life steal item and clear a group of creep it will usually heal you all the way up thanks to the AOE of your ult.

Moves

Vamanas passive is amazing. It reduces the cool down of his ult when he is hit, increases the duration of his ult by getting hit when ulted, and converts 20%of his physical defense to physical power. This makes him crush physical carrys.

This move may seem simple but it is one of your most important moves. My average deaths with Vamana is currently at 1 because of this move. It could be one of the best escape skills in the game. I try to save it for situations that i need it in. Number one priority would be using it to live, number two would be to chase down a enemy that may have leaped away and was retreating back to there base. you have a very little turn radius while you are using this skill, therefore aiming it correctly is important

This skill is simple, its is a peer damage move. with the build above at level 20 it should hit for around 600.

This move is very important early game. Vamana shoots out his umbrella in front of him that comes back to him like a boomerang damaging foes both ways. something that this move does that most people forget about is the slow. it is very handy for escaping or catching up with enemys. I put my first point in the move because you can aggravate the enemys in your lane by hitting them with this and there minions and it does good early game damage. One of the cool things about the return of the umbrellarang is that you can move left and right and control it still on the way back. Mastering this is huge when maxing out Vamanas damage

Vamanas ult is very good and hard to control. Vamana gains protections, physical power, and 3% health regain when he activates his ult. The cool down of his ult can be reduced by ten seconds just by enemy gods hitting you, this is nice when you are running away and use his ult to survive. Because he gets GIANT when he ults it is very crucial to body block. His ult also causes Vamana to do an AOE stomp instead of his single target attack... therefore it is important to ult when enemys are in groups.

Situations

Whenever attacking you want to save CLEAR THE PATH for escaping, unless you can secure a kill by using it.

Open on someone using umbrellarang to slow them down, then hit them with armored umbrella to stack up some damage. Repeat doing these two moves if there are more then two enemy gods you wwant to hit them both.
FROSTBOUND HAMMER or CREEPING CURSE are huge items because this build is about being able to hit someone through all of there moves and stick to them like glue.
constantly watch your health when i get to 20% I usually ult or use clear the path to get away.

Conclusion

Overall Vamana is one of my favorite gods in Smite. He Has a fun ult and can be a big pest to enemys. Sadly there are better gods to pick in ranked over him so he is often over looked. However, I have alot of fun with him in arena when im not playing ranked. If you go heavy damage with him your ult will literally crush ranged magic, or physical carrys(who doesn't want to completely smash a Loki or Fenir everyone in awhile?) But this is my first guide so let me know what you think!!

Ok, I see a few problems here:

Your guide involves your takes on the items and abilities which is absolutely great, but you give little sections on gameplay. What you have is miniscule and that is what new players are looking for: advice. You have that with the items and abilities, but you could add more in those sections as well as in gameplay.

Your tanky build is not tanky... i refuse to believe such. It's a good Vamana build, but I wouldn't call it tanky. Tanky would involve 80-90% tank, instead of the 60-70% you have there. I'm not quite fond of the other builds... they just don't work for me. Always remember Vamana's Sleeping Giant passive, which is why I think the first "tanky" build is a good one. It could use work, though.

It's a pretty good start, but you could do more. Good job, though.
