My Introdution

Hello my name is Stuke99, or Stuke for short, (My IGN is the same) and welcome to my guide for playing Loki, the Trickster God. In this guide I'll give you some tips and tricks to be a good Loki. If there's anything you don't like in this guide, you can add your own suggestions to what should be added or taken out. Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail, these are suggestions on how to play Loki. I encourage you to look at the comment section below and see others suggestions.

Introduction

Loki is a physical melee assassin with high single target damage. What he lacks in the defense and health department is what he makes up in attack and burst damage. With this guide you'll be able to take down a target in a single strike if the pieces are right. With the items and attack just right, you'll be able to take down even the most protective of tanks with ease.

Pros / Cons

Pros

High single target damage
Two forms of escapes
High burst damage
Amazing in a team fight (with the team there)

Invisibility

Cons

Low health
Low defense
Weak in a team fight (by himself)
Bad when he gets focused

Items

: This is now a must for Loki, this item works great with Loki since he's a ability based god. the Mp5 is great to spam abilities.

: Do I need to explain this.

: With this item the penetration, damage, mana increase, and most importantly the cooldown reduction is a item great for a sneaky assassin like Loki to have all the time. In combination with Hydra's Lament your cooldown reduction will be at its max and Hydra's Lament is more useful then Ninja Tabi will ever be on Loki.

: Hydra's Lament is the best cooldown reduction item for any burst damage assassin to get. After you activate an ability, you do an extra 50% damage to any target with a 15 second cooldown on the item after its usage.

: Deathbringer is a staple for any AA Based God, nuff said. Also it gives you more damage when you hit someone with a crit chance.

: Many would argue Rage over Malice, but I say the extra physical power and critical chance from Malice is far better then Rage. With Malice, when you get a Crit on a attack you do extra damage for a duration.

: I would use this over Qin's Sais. Even though the attack speed is nice on Qin's Sais, but Titan's Bane provides true penetration then the extra damage with Qin's Sais.

magi's blessing: The CC immunity is great for escaping when hit with a CC ability. Also Magi's Blessing added gives added protection, health, and mana.

: I normally don't use this item or have any use for it yet, but the added physical protection is good for attack and defense from a physical defensive god by reducing their physical protection. This is a situational item that can make or break your life when you go against another physical god.

: Have trouble with those annoying magical gods or dying to quickly? Then here's the item for you, not only does it provide magical protection but it gives you a shield of invincibility for a couple seconds so you better hurry and escape while you still can.

: I would get this if you don't want Hydra's Lament, if you get caught out in a CC lockdown this item will give you a small window of opportunity to slip away but the chances are low but better than nothing.

Actives

: I like to use this over Combat Blink, mainly for the low cooldown compared to Combat Blink.

: I would use this when I'm in Arena because it can get me out a fight more often in Arena since the entire area is a large battle ground and you don't have to wait for the mini cooldown when you get hit by an enemy.Note: Both Combat Blink and Greater Blink will break your invisibility upon activation.

: Makes you immune to Crowd Control Abilities, nuff said.

: This ability can increase your physical power for a short duration. It becomes more useful to assassinate your target more easily.

: when a hard hitting ultimate or a killing blow comes your way, activate this to make yourself immune to everything for a duration.

: This active comes in handy against gods that can heal themselves like Hel, Ra, and Guan Yu.

: Gives you mana, nuff said, but if you get Salvation you can heal and mana regain not only you but your allies near you. Note: This works extremely well on Assault because since you can't go back to base in Assault.

: A beautiful active to get in solo and especially for a split pusher like Loki who can get behind the enemy lines and take out a tower or a phoenix before the enemy can catch on to what he's doing.

Skills

Passive: :(When playing Loki, always aim for their backs, the extra damage from it can take down your target much faster and easier then running up and attacking them from the front.)

Ability 1: :(Use this as your primary for your attacks, the movement, bleed effect, and extra damage makes this a good skill for securing kills, but no need to max this first. Also makes for a good juke and escape. When you go invisible try going in a direction that your opponent won't suspect and flank them.)

Ability 2:Decoy:(I would max this first, because this ability is great for farming the lanes and or the jungle camps. It's also a great tool for building stacks on items like Transcendence.)

Ability 3:Aimed Strike:(Max this second. Since this ability provides more damage them Vanish does. The slow is also nice feature for you to catch up to your opponent and repeatedly stab them in the back while they try to run away.)

Ultimate: :(This Ability has two functions on the battlefield: 1. To get closer to your target, and 2. To escape oncoming death. Do not use it as an escape unless it's absolutely necessary.)

When playing either Mid/Solo or Jungle, you want to max Decoy first for the lane clear and to build stacks also to gain gold and Exp. After you max Decoy, the next skill to level up is Aimed Strike for the damage output, slow, and bleeding damage for its duration. Then after those two are maxed, Vanish is next to be max for the increased damage and DoTs. Final level up your Ultimate whenever possible, Assassinate.

In Arena, the order will change to: Aimed Strike, Vanish, Decoy, then Assassinate when allowed to.

Note: In both game mode you want to put 1 point into Decoy at the start.

Gameplay

Loki's main role is "Assassin" so there's no need to be out on the battlefield acting like Rambo in a Berserker rage. Always stick to the shadows and strike unwary opponents if you're Jungleing or ganking.

If you get a gut feeling that going in there is a bad idea, it most likely is. Always stay behind the team fight and pick off the weakest link from it.

Avoid other players from the enemy team that have CC gods that can stun you like Ymir, Hades, and Athena. Gods and Goddesses like them can break your cover and ruin your assassination.

Finally, always aim your strikes. Nothing is more annoying then wasting your ultimate on thin air. Keep a clear head and make sure you know you're going to hit your target.

Game Phases

Early Game: Farm the lanes or jungle camps until you get a point in Assassinate and begin to build up a good amount of attack power. (Stay in your lane if you're Mid/Solo build, sorry :c)

Mid Game: When you accumulate enough experience points and become Level 12+ as Loki (Junglers) and or destroy all the towers in your lane (Mid/Solo), begin the ganking process (= begin ambushing your opponent and start stabbing).

Late Game: Kill everyone you meet, and help your teammates kill the Jungle Bosses. Note: you can do both for the different builds you take.

Tips and Tricks

Always aim for the back, the increased damage from your passive is better then rushing from the front like a crazy psycho. It works with both enemy gods and minions.

When you're using your Decoy's always aim it by over the archers in the back of the wave. Because the archer minions will not move when they are attacking, but the sword minions will and they'll move towards the decoy. After a duration, your decoy will explode and can make quick work of minions if you level Decoy first when laneing or Jungleing.

Stay out of the big fights and pick off the weakest links or those who are trying to get away. Once you kill them or spook them enough into a complete retreat, get the hell out of Dodge and avoid any contact with the enemy.

Planing the Kill

Before you assassinate your unwary target, use this combination to make sure you secure the kill. Before you get close to your opponent, activate Girdle of Might or Girdle of Inner Power if you have it on you (this is optional), after that run up to your opponent while Vanish is activated, when you get inches away from your opponent activate Aimed Strike (never activate it from a distance, your opponent will hear it and become aware of your presences), then proceed to stab them in the back repeatedly (if you have Assassinate activate that before you start stabbing them). If there are minions in the area, throw down a Decoy to distract them first before you kill your target.

Things to Look Out for

Always be wary of other assassins on the map at all times, never let your guard down for a second unless you want to become dinner to a hungry Bastet, Thanatos, Arachne, Hun Batz, or another Loki.

Gods with CC immunity: gods like Chronos, Chang'e, Ymir, etc. can be a pain in the *** for you to land a kill with Assassinate. Also it's equally annoying when they have Magi's Blessing on them.

Getting stuck in the middle of a team fight is not a good thing, especially for a squishy god like Loki. Always have a way to escape either have Vanish or Assassinate at the ready at all times unless you got into the middle of it that way, then you're done for. Or if you have it on you, activate Greater Blink or Combat Blink to escape.

Team Work

When playing Loki, your job is to kill those that try to escape or to catch your opponent off guard when they are distracted with something else. Even though it is tempting to, never kill steal your teammates kill (they will hate you in the long run). If playing Jungler, keep close to Middle Lane to gank the Mid from the enemy team. Note: (you don't have to stay near middle all the time, you can go out and secure kills from the other lanes or farm the lanes and minion camps around you).

Your second job is to protect your teammate near you from being ganked by the enemy teams assassin or if you're too late and they die, avenge their death (they would be grateful for it).

Summary

In Summary, Loki is arguably the best assassin in Smite in the time of making this guide. His high pure and burst damage with the ability to turn invisible makes you everyone's worst nightmare. Just remember these tips: always remain sneaky, never strike unless you think you can make the kill, never enter a team fight alone, always have an escape plan at the ready, and delve into your inner trickster.

Considering the fact that Loki needs more power, including penetration, AA items arent helpful although he relies on it alot. He is a good god for one hit one kill and get the **** out, not for constant fighting.

Just one thing off :

Greater Blink no longer gives a bonus speed boost for 1 second.

I already gave my +1 yesterday, so enjoy a cookie

Your build is pretty much solid but a couple tweaks could fix this up.

Taking out Shifter's Shield and adding in Bulwark of Hope for defense situationals should help. meditation is not needed in arena if you meant that. If not, organize it in a better way doe.

Why max Vanish over aimed strike in jungle? You're certainly not using Vanish that much on jungle camps, are you? aimed strike has reduced cooldowns as well as greater damage.

Overall, your skill decriptions could be more lengthy and descriptive. While Loki may not be the hardest god to play in SMITE, he does have a lot of tricks and very cool things you can do with his abilities.

You honestly lack in depth, organization, and appearance. Which goes in descending order of importance. You can definitely tidy this up a bit, even without BB Coding, just proper spacing and different layouts.

I just feel this guide is missing the "oomf" for being a great guide. It's certainly not a bad one, but I am a tad biased due to the intense amount of werk I put in mine ;) (take a look at it). For now, I'm giving this a flat 5/10, which won't be voted upon.

PM me for any assistance with your guide, being descriptions, BB code, or layouts, feel free. Good luck.

Let's try to be badass and be professional:

Build

MID/SOLO
Not sure about the transendence start, since it's pretty expensive. Then again, you are pretty mana hungry, so I understand.

I'm also not sure about the Devourer's Gauntlet being in the defensive items.

The consumable section is completely unnecessary though.

I'd give this a 9/10.

JUNGLE
I really don't like the Devourer's gauntler. It prevents you from getting early movement speed (which is nice but not extremely necessary on him since he has a slow and a speed buff). It's also just impractical: Loki is an ability god, and Physical Lifesteal only works on auto attacks.

The Transendence is a bit weird. You should explain that it's important to get this early, since you really don't have the time to stack it up late gama.

I also dislike the Void Shield for a defensive item. It's just not very good on an assassin and it gives minimal power. I know I have it in my guide, but at least I explain when to get it.

I'm also a not sure why you list different acitves here than you did in the Mid/Solo build? Why no Girdle of Inner Power? Or Fist of the Gods?

Again, consumable section not necessary :P

I'd give this a 6/10.

Arena/Assault
Basically perfect, I only disagree with Void Shield and the fact that you missed meditation for assault.

Guess what! Consumables :D

I'd give this a 10/10.

Skills + Explanations

Skills
Mid/Solo: Perfect 10/10
Jungle: Wrong. Loki is one of those gods where you have 2 choices: OR you level Aimed Strike first and then level Vanish (like most people), OR you level Vanish before leveling Aimed Strike. Decoy is always maxed last. 4/10.
Assault/Arena:Perfect. 10/10

Overall: 8/10

Skill Explanations
Behind You!: Uhmmmm.... OK at best. I recommend adding a Tips&Tricks (of sorts) section. Like use Decoy to attack minions in the back. You can also just put it next to it.
6/10

Vanish: This is just bad. Loki is a tricky (pun intended) god, and Vanish is his skill. You have to include mind tricks with this (double back etc.).
5/10

Decoy: Again, bad and incomplete. How do you clear with this? It's the biggest question you're failing to answer. Also, if you change the skill order for the jungle, you should delete the part where you say to level this first.
4/10

Aimed Strike: Again, OK at best. There is a very neat trick with this (read my explanation on it) which makes you basically cast this twice. Also, since you don't have a combo section, I'd add the ( Vanish)>Aimed Strike> Assassinate combo.
6/10

Assassinate: This is also ok? It's just so empty with almost no info at all. Also: It's better to not die than to get a kill, so I think it's better to just use your ult whenever you're in trouble.
6/10

Overall: 5,4/10

Item Explanations

Item explanation
I'll just start off with the fact that since you have 3 different (4 technically but I don't count the fun build) builds you should explain why you get every item in every build separately.

The rest of the item explanations are pretty solid, but I still feel like I'm missing something. I'd suggest just taking a good look at them, and try to be a noob Loki player. Then see what you could add.

I'd give this a 8/10

Actives explanation
These are pretty bad. I wanna start off with the fact that because of a recent patch, actives will break your invisibility. Here the big problem is how and when to use/buy an active.

I'd give this a 4/10

Overall: 6/10

Overall, excellent content in the guide. The explanation of the items is excellent, and the little green sections of the skills are very nicely done. If I end up playing Loki, this may well be the first place I look for information.

However, that said, your organization and BBCoding could use a little help. And I actually mean only a little. For example, the items section would look a lot better if instead of
Quoted:
: Hydra's Lament is the best cooldown reduction item for any burst damage assassin to get. After you activate an ability, you do an extra 50% damage to any target with a 15 second cooldown on the item after its usage.

you were to add columns, so it might look like this:
Hydra's Lament is the best cooldown reduction item for any burst damage assassin to get. After you activate an ability, you do an extra 50% damage to any target with a 15 second cooldown on the item after its usage.
how I did it

And just like that, it looks nicer. Other note: I find your use of rules a bit excessive. Instead of using them to separate every thought, only use them to separate sections, and even then use them sparingly. Using rules instead of spacing really seems to make your guide look like it is crammed and not giving the reader's mind breathing room between one piece of advice and the next. It makes your readers take less away from the guide.

Also, I would really like to see more skill information and some matchups. That is a key bit of a guide that is missing here.

So, with that said, here's my (admittedly rather amateur) rating of the guide:
Content - 8.5/10
Formatting - 6/10
Organization - 7/10
Final Verdict - 8/10
That earns an upvote from me.
