Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Tyr, the Lawgiver

My name is Cyberhawk. I am a casual player who primarily plays conquest & siege. I bounce between Solo lane and Jungle, and Tyr is one of my 3 main Solo laners.

This is my fourth smitefire guide, and I intend to update it, so feel free to comment things that should be added/edited.

Pros / Cons

Such Injustice

Pros:
  • Excellent CC
  • Great set-up for allies
  • Nearly unkillable
  • Good Damage
  • Manny!
Cons:
  • No utility, not even relics
  • Very CD dependent
  • Clearing waves can be risky
  • Nearly hard-countered by CC immune abilities ( Chang'e / Guan Yu / Ravana)
.

Combos

- Normal -
Blink -> Fearless -> Power Cleave -> Change Stance -> Power Cleave -> (basics -> Fearless -> Power Cleave)

Only really the one combo, its really just chaining all his abilities together, but save the Defensive Fearless as a last-hit/chase or it might pull you too far away from them to finish them off.
At 6 items, the (1>2>3>2) part of the combo does roughly 900 damage to squishys AFTER protections. The full combo does ~1800 damage to a mage, most of which they cannot take actions during.

Tyr. Hurts.

The main things to practice with Tyr are:

Landing your Combo.
When to be in each stance.
Landing your Combo.
Landing your Combo off of Blink.
Seriously, practice landing your Combo.

Relics

What’re these for?

Core Items
Item 1
Warrior Tabi Needs no explanation.

Item 2
Breastplate of Valor will 95% of the time be your 2nd item. Physical protections and CDR are both stats in high demand on Tyr. The only situations that it would not be 2nd: against a magical solo laner like Hades, or if you were planning a specific alternative build getting its CDR elsewhere.
This slot should always be protection against your counterpart’s damage type.
Note: Breastplate should be sold for Mantle of Discord in the late-late game.

Item 3
Jotunn's Wrath will always be your third item to pick up. Power, Pen, precious CDR and even a bit of mana (which you could probably use). This item hits every mark for ability based gods like Tyr.

Items 4-5
These two items are usually items 4 and 5 for you, but their order depends on the enemy team. If there are a lot of magical threats or if their jungler is magical build Bulwark of Hope first. Otherwise build Hide of the Urchin first. If you built magical defense second, build Breastplate of Valor as your 4th item.
These two items are his best bet for these slots due to the massive amount of health and magical protections, plus some mana and physical protections and CCR they provide.
Note: Tyr isn’t super dependent of a certain defensive item, so he is a great god to work anti-heal into if needed. If there is a Hel Guan Yu or Aphrodite on the other team, replace Bulwark of Hope with Pestilence.

Item 6 and Alternative Builds

Tyr is weird.

The build outlined in this guide gives you everything he needs on a good power curve, but there are some peculiarities of his situation that make him able to have very different builds that end up stronger at 6 items. Below im going to outline some of these options, but if you start to work these items into your build remember two things:

Tyr NEEDS at least 35% CDR to function properly, and he likes health items quite a bit more than the average warrior.

That second point probably should have some explanation.

Explanation

Any item except for boots can be replaced, even Jotunn’s Wrath. Just make sure you have plenty of armor, plenty of CDR, and some source of penetration.

Option 1
Titan’s Bane is the #1 choice for Tyr’s last slot, as he has really high base damage and doesn’t have much use for even more defense. The will make you a much bigger threat in team fights, assuming you keep yourself alive long enough, but honestly that shouldn’t be a problem.

You like the idea of mixing it up? Having a bit more than 2500 Health? Whatever the reason, heres some substitutions

Excellent Choices

These will keep your stitches in!

Gameplay

Late Game

Conclusion

Tyr is an excellent solo laner. Can be a bit challenging to play, especially on console, but is well worth the effort. Besides, Manny needs someone to carry him into battle!

Special thanks to Zibly and his awesome Template!

Just a inquiring thought as a fellow Tyr player. I have found the Stone of Gaia to often time be really helpful utility in early game for Tyr, allowing more consistent laning and less risky boxing. Any thoughts?

If it works for you i guess go for it, to me it seems completely unessecary with Tyr's massive amount of self healing
