SORRY FOR CAPS.

Introduction.

Welcome to my guide for Sobek, The God of the Nile. I decided to make this guide, since I have a 52% Win Ratio with RANDOMS. About 400~500 games played so far as Sobek. Sobek was the first god I bought with Favor in the game, so I think I'm pretty confortable to talk about our lovely crocodile. He is also my favorite god of the game.

Other Guides created by me:
Fenrir Guide: http://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/fenrir-guide-the-ragnarok-rises-2055

Summary.

SUMMARY

Sobek is an extremely fun god to play, even for a Tank. Sobek can go well with almost every god. He can be tanky, and yet do a lot of damage, getting some kills. Remember: Any questions just ask in the comments, or any thing you'd like to see in this guide.

Upvote this. Or else Sobek will ravage your family.

Pros & Cons!

PROS

[*] Lots of protection.
[*] Charge Prey.
[*] Lots of sustain not only because of being a tank, but because of Sickening Strike.
[*] Did I mention Charge Prey?
[*] He's a croc. I love crocs.
[*] Lurking In The Waters regens mana, does lots of damage, and slows nearby foes. OP?
[*] Not so hard to learn how to play.

CONS
[*] Low damage, if built full tank.
[*] Melee.
[*] No Ranged abilities.
[*] Passive relies on autoattacking something or someone.
[*] Can be squishy with the wrong items.
[*] Mana hungry.

Build 1: Tank.

I don't like starting items in general. I'm from the age of old school boot start. But, Mark of the Vanguard is one of the few useful starting items IMO. Get it + one active and a few potions! This would make your act of tanking not an hard job.

Get that on your first recall, recommended to happen after an ultimate wombo-combo... or when you're at low health. Get this as early as possible, and always get 1 potion of each when returning to the lane. I prefer this one over Plated Greaves because of the CC reduction, which is awesome and better over a few more gold for a small increasement of protections.

Mana, Phys Protection and Cooldown reduction! It's cheap also! Great start after boots for a tank.

I used to get that as an early game item, better to scrap it to mid game. Why? Too expensive! Although that's the best Magical Protection item IN THE GAME, of course, in my humble opinion. You're free to replace it with another magical protection item, as every other item of that build.

Your damage is already pretty godamn high. You may want tankyness and damage as well. So that's why you take this: Specially if there are annoying ADCs on the enemy team, like Apollo, that jerk.

mystical mark
An must-have for a late-game tank. It gives GREAT amount of protection, as well as a damage aura. You do have an nice damage output for a tank, but this can secure kills and more.

That Hide nerf was mean... Very mean, HiRez. Now it is scrapped to situationals! Happy?! Get this if the enemies have a lot of annoying AD Ranged( and when I mean a lot, I mean like 3~5 of the enemy team composed by AD Ranged gods).

Surprised to see Void Stone instead of it's focused counterpart, Focused Void Stone? Do not be surprised! As Sobek has an very big AoE Ultimate, and you're playing supportive, it's an reason to get Void Stone instead.

Hmm, I don't really know if that's a good item at all. It gives tankyness in an aura, but I have never really used A LOT. Not much to say for now.

Actives.

Manly Tanky Active, recommended for tanks in general! As you'll be the ''shield'' of your carry, you'll receive some damage in the face. So I recommend you to start with Mark of the Vanguard + Shard + Some Potions.

Get this if you didn't buy an active at the start. But only late game! Pop this up when a Teamfight is about to start, so your team gets damage advantage.

With this, you can null heals and gods that escape from their death. Recommended to get early if you didn't get a Shard.

The defensive version of Girdle of Might. Please, do not get both. Only one. You're not a pure support, you're a manly tank.

You've warded the FG... The enemies just got 3 gods of your team down. You and another guy that doesn't matter go to the FG, and you dive in and use Hand of the Gods. FG Secured!

So: Use this to secure FG or GF. Recommended to get at any Game Phase, a must for a tank.

You started a match. The enemies' Fenrir got fed. Time to get this. Enfeebling Curse is extremely strong, but I only recommend to get this if the enemies do have a lot of escape mechanics. Like 3-5 of the team with annoying escapes.

... This shuts down Fenrir almost completely.

Skills.

Skills

Blessing of the Nile
PASSIVE.
Sobek's basic attacks that hit an enemy grant him protections for a short time.
Ability: Buff
Affects: Self
Protections: 5
Lifetime: 4s
Max Stacks: 3

My opinion: Autoattack some minions to make use of Blessing of the Nile. Then, when you see your ''cool golden armor'' glowing, use your Charge Prey. If you miss it, no worries. Your protections are increased, thanks to that nice passive.

Charge Prey.
ABILITY 1.
Sobek charges forward at a frenzied pace. If Sobek hits an enemy, he does damage and throws the enemy behind Sobek.
Ability: Line
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Damage: 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+50% of your magical power)
Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110
Cooldown: 15s

My opinion: Almost all the time. Try to get enemies without good escape abilites, such as Anubis or Aphrodite. The range of that ability is broken, so it's not exactly the range shown in-game.

Tail Whip.
ABILITY 2.
Sobek whips around in a circle, knocking enemies back and doing damage.
Ability: Area
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Radius: 20
Damage: 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 (+40% of your magical power)
Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110
Cooldown: 12s

My opinion:'' DEFEND OUR CARRY! ''. If there is a annoying enemie around, try to whip him away from your carry, or maybe of yourself from bad situations. You should also use Tail Whip right after pulling the enemie with your Charge Prey.

Sickening Strike.
ABILITY 3.
Sobek does an axe attack that damages all enemies in front of him and lowers their healing received. In addition, Sobek heals for each enemy hit, up to 3.
Ability: Cone
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Damage: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+30% of your magical power)
Healing Reduction: 50%
Healing Reduction Lifetime: 4s
Heal: 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 (+10% of your magical power)
Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110
Cooldown: 13s

My opinion: On a low-health enemie trying to heal himself. Prioritize enemies with healing abilities, such as Hel, Ra, Aphrodite and Guan Yu. If there aren't any of those in the enemie team, use it when attacking right after your Tail Whip.

Lurking in the Waters.
ABILITY 4.
Sobek submerges himself, where he regens mana, is immune to crowd control and he slows all enemies. When Sobek emerges, he damages all enemies in the radius. Cancelling the ability decreases the damage.
Ability: Area
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Radius: 30
Damage: 350 / 500 / 650 / 800 / 950 (+80% of your magical power)
Submerge Slow: 15%
Submerge Lifetime: 4s
Submerge Mana Regen: 10% per second
Cost: 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120
Cooldown: 90s

My opinion: The last part of your combo. You shall also use this on sticky situations IF NEEDED, since it slows the enemies around you. And don't be afraid to use this ultimate just to get mana, if you're trying to farm and low on gold.

Using your combo.

--->> --->> --->> .

Why the combo is like that?
Use your Charge Prey to pull the enemie closer to you. If you pulled him, then you Tail Whip his face back, and then Sickening Strike. To regen all your mana and finish him off, use your Lurking In The Waters.
If you missed your Charge Prey, simply use your Tail Whip on the enemie and fall back.

Try to combo like this on a Teamfight.

Solo Laning.

Sobek is a viable solo laner. If you've read the guide so far, you may know that Sobek, according to his abilities, has a lot of CC and 2 abilities that can be used to escape. Not only that, but he can clear waves with ease if he is not pushed hard to the tower. ( Sickening Strike + Tail Whip ).

That means Sobek is an great solo laner!

He can endure for a while, and even GET kills if he is experienced, using Charge Prey on his preys while he is pushed to the tower, if he is in a 1v2.

So what that means?

You shall be agressive. Not to dive your enemies everytime, but to take control of the lane. Or else you'll be pushed hard. You can survive with your Lifesteal and Mana Regeneration, and of course, your natural tankyness.

Skins.

High Seas. 600 Gems.

Death Dealer.
9500 Favor or 200 Gems.

FAQ/Questions.

FAQ

Mr. Dark Jaw, why is Sobek so picked in competitive plays? Or even on casual matches?

Answer: Sobek is known for many reasons; mainly by his Charge Prey. Sobek is a DISRUPTER and a TANK, made to break the enemies' defenses. Sobek can be used as the MAIN TANK or as the SECONDARY TANK, aka TANKY-AP-BRUISER. Although people use more him as a TANK, but everything is situational. If there is a Ymir or a Bacchus on my team, I would go AP Bruiser instead.

Mr. Dark Jaw, why people fear Sobek so much?

Answer: Perhaps they already know about Sobek's deadly Charge Prey. Or they just fear him because he is a crocodile. I love crocodiles, but that's not the case, anyway.

Mr. Dark Jaw, why do you prefer Sobek over other tanks? Ymir and Bacchus are the best!

Answer: Sobek is such a versatile character, both of those listed gods aren't so versatile as Sobek. Ymir relies on heavy cc, so is Bacchus. Sobek is more like a Disrupter AND a Tank. Although that doesn't mean Ymir and Bacchus are good Tanks, I enjoy playing then too.

Any other questions?

Although, this is a WIP it is still very very nice. I picked up a version of that solo-bek build and although I haven't been able to play him a lot what I have played has been quite fun.

Ehhh, how can this be a great guide if it is incomplete? I guess you liked the build, then... because the information is not up to date.

PFFF MUAS, BETTER THAN YOUR ANUBIS.
But seriously, it didn't work in our match because of one simple reason: You fed, and I was lagging like hell. I hate EU.

1.) you were right. Changed my review to reflect this.
2.) Still Sovereignty gives your team magical and physical protections. Perhaps I wouldn't get this if the the enemy only had magical gods (probably would just to protect my team, If you add it up it's 100 magical protections in teamfights). But starting from 2 physicals Sovereignty is a must.
3.) Wholeheartedly agree, but this build has too many protections and not enough health in my opinion.
4.) Having only started giving reviews not too long ago, I'm not in the position to be saying what the best guide on Sobek or the best guide in general is, Of course most of the guides on the Top Rated page are great guides.

Thanks for the review of the review!
