Sobek-God of the Nile

Welcome everyone to my first guide of Sobek God of the Nile. If anything seems shaky or doesn't work right, inform me or tell me what items to switch around. Now Sobek is by far the best guardian class for Smite (personal experience),but he is a very underused god. So today I'm here to show you not to underestimate a Sobek.

Abilities and Passives How they work

Sobek's passive Blessing of the Nile,is where most of his tanking comes from. Basically how it works is that if Sobek abilities or basic attacks hit a enemy,he gains +7 protection (magical/Pyshical) and stacks up to 3 times for a total of +21 protection, each stack only last 3 seconds. Also the passive does not stack for how many enemies are hit,you must hit 3 times for the max passive. The stacks last up 3 seconds each (9 seconds in total).

\
Charge Prey is Sobek's main CC (Crowd Control),basically Sobek runs in a start line very fast and if he hits a enemy god he does damage and tosses them back. Early game this can be used to throw enemies into towers for some early damage pressure, and possibly a free kill. While Sobek does run in a straight line, this skill is his initiator and his escape. So be mindful of that when deciding when to fight or save it.

/
Tail Whip is the other half of Sobek's CC (Crowd Control),and it's his 2nd main damaging move next to Sickening Strike. This ability is part of a combo I'll get into that later, make sure you know how small the area
is though due to it's very small radius,it should be used for fights with Gods. This is another minion clear Sobek has,but is impractical and should be used for more teamfights than clearing minion waves. This ability knocks his enemies into the air and knocking them back a fair distance. As I said in early game using this ability to knock enemies into towers to add pressure to a good idea espically early game,it only works behind though since it knocks enemies away from Sobek. Also use this to help your allies escape do not be afriad to waste this to save a ally.

/
Sickening Strike Sobek's main damaging move and minion clear. This ability should be used to start the damage,if charge prey missed. This move also HEALS Sobek for the amount of enemies hit. This ability is where Sobek sustain comes from, hitting minions with this heals you for a bit of HP helping Sobek to stay in a lane while your partner goes to buy items or retreat. At Max rank the base heal is 180 (+30% of your magical power).

/
Lurking in the Waters,Sobek ace in the hole, the grand daddy of guardian damage. This is by far one of the best ults for a guardian because this can do HEFTY damage and slows enemies (Like Ymir's ult) but unlike Ymir's ult this ult allows you to move, this means you can make sure the enemies don't escape if they use a escape. While this damage,it can be easily escape by blink or a dash. So be mindful of that. Also if needed right click to cancel the ability this makes it so you activate it but for less damage.

Why these Items?

When starting out buy Vanguard,Combat Shoes,Sprint,Heal and Mana potion. This should be 1500 gold for conquest.Sprint is to help Sobek escape. First Upgrade your Boots to Reinforce Shoes for reduce Crowd Control, extra health and protection, and movement speed, Reinforce shoes must be upgraded first because of how cheap it is and it's early game advantages.Next get Stone of Gaia, this gives Sobek lots of HP5 plus 2% of his max HP regen, infact this is a must have for any guardians because the guardians can stay in lanes LONGER! Buy Genji's Guard next this item has some very good synergy with stone of gaia due to your insane HP5 regen rate you get from taking magical damage and making you faster in the process. Now buy Breastplate of Valor this gives you some cooldown that allows you to activate your abilities sooner and lock down that one enemy. Next buy Cloak of Unrelenting Sorrow not only because of it's massive protection boost, but because it offers you a stun in form of 30% HP left allowing a 1 second stun to happening around you allowing you to mess up and confused teamfights.. Now sell your Vanguard and buy yourself Hide of the Urchine this just gives you the last sustain you need and because your probably getting alot of assist by now you'll get extra protections in no time. The Relics are Sprint and GMeditation (Default) reasons:Sprint can help you escape and Meditation can help you sustain and stay in a fight longer. Replacing Sprint with Shell can help if the team is struggling to survive also hard CC use purification beads.

Pros / Cons

Pros
+Very Heavy Tank
+Lots of Sustain
+Can Take Brutal Hits for allies

Cons
-Very Mana Hungry early on
-Ain't going to do much damage early
-Need Teammates to finish a job early and mid game.
-A poor timed Charge Prey can waste a ult or mess up a allies abilities.

COMBO BREAKERS!

The Charger Berserker
Sobek can do 2 combos using all of his abilities.
First use Charge Prey to get a fight going if it hits a god, then back up and use tail whip to knock them back and keep em back, then use Sickening Strike for damage and heals. Then use your ult to slow them down and release a huge damage and getting a kill if you have a partner (1-2-3-4)

The Swamp Monster
Sobek can do this combo as well.
Instead of Charge prey use Sickening strike then charge prey for extra damage, tail whip, then your ultimate. Rinse and repeat.

Summary

+Heavy Tank
+Can lock down a enemy.

-Won't do much at the beginning.
-Reliant on partners mid and early game.
-Mana hungry.

In conclusion Sobek is a very good tank and using this build can provide the carry the team needs to finish of a titan. With all of his abilities a shutdown can be easily down and even enemy guardians can't withstand the might of Sobek's tankiness.

And not to mention the sustain you get from it.

A quick question for you.

You say in the guide that Sickening Strike is your main damage ability, but Tail Whip has a shorter cooldown, more base damage, and more magical scaling.

I don't understand how Sickening strike would be the main damage ability? Is there something I missing?

Sobek Sickening Strike may not do as much as Tail Whip, but it's more reliable than Tail Whip. It's mid range, reduces healing, heals you; also it's as a second higher cooldown. Tail Whip deals 40 damage, but it's effects are meh, personally Sickening Strike has a lot more uses than Tail Whip. Tail Whip should be used in crowds or comboed with Charge Prey.

Reinforced Shoes are all around a bad item. If you are having trouble with cc, then buy a Winged Blade or beads, but thats situational.

Another thing is, you have absolutely no cooldown, Blue boots are a better item, and Breastplate of Valor is better than Mystical Mail. More cooldown so you can actually use your abilities and its about 1000 gold cheaper. Not to mention if youre talking about tower diving and stuff, mail will agro tower/phoenix on you immediately. Avoid it.

But other tan that not a build build. I like to run poly and void stone myself, but thats personal preference.,
