I'll start off by saying, I'm no pro. AMC is my favorite hunter, hunters are my favorite gods. So I've had time to tinker, and this is just what suits me best.
This is not a full blown guide. I don't tell you every little thing to do, when, and why. This is a build and why it exists. I'll also try and include little AMC tips.
I build AMC to have the ability to last a long time in lane, especially early game. Starting with lifesteal and mana regen (Devourer's Gountlet and Transcendence) allows you to take hits and dish them out for a long time without leaving the lane.
Early game I'm very careful and just get basic attacks in where I can, while beating on creeps from a distance. So I don't feel boots are necessary right off the bat. I'm more worried about building up stacks on my first two items. The best way is to keep your distance, stay in lane, and kill creeps with your #2 (swarm)
Depending on who you're playing with/against, determines the 4th item, But will typically be Rage or a defense item.
BEES BEES BEES! Inflicting Bees (passive) on enemies is one of the most useful things about AMC. You can infect an almost dead enemy and them run a safe distance away, and still die. :D
BEEHIVES! ARE TAKEN FOR GRANTED! They provide healing and movement speed. In combination with running away and using honey at your feet, makes for a decent escape. You speed up, they slow down, and they start taking damage.
SWARM! Best way to kill creeps. By about mid game you begin to clear a whole line of creeps at once. Leaving your enemy with nothing to stand behind! AH HA!
HONEY! Great for slowing down your enemy to catch them, which is why the Enfeebling Curse is so awesome for AMC. When your in pursuit of someone, you can be a decent distance away, drop a hive, hit them with honey, and now your catching up, hit the curse too, and now they're dead in the water and can barely defend themselves. If done at the right time, can mark the tipping point in the battle.
STINGER! A very basic Ultimate, with an AMAZING function. After hitting an enemy with the stinger, if they die, or 3 seconds go by, your stinger is dropped for 4 seconds. If you pick it up you get an 80% cooldown reduction for your ultimate. That means using your ultimate again in 18 seconds!!!
