Chains extend from Ares' shield, doing damage to all enemies in its path. Hitting a god shackles them to Ares, Cripples them, preventing movement abilities, dealing the same damage every second while slowing them by 15% and buffing Ares. While shackled, Ares can fire another chain for free within 2s. Jungle Camps take an extra +40% damage.

Ares throws chains out to all enemy gods in an area around him. All enemies hit by the chains are pulled to Ares after 2.5s, taking damage and are stunned.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
Can be built to a very high levels of both damage and health
At high levels almost un-killable
Passive is nice to stack awesome aura items
Almost unstoppable when played with other healers/supports :D




Cons:
Must hit your shackles or disengage (normally)
Ult countered by simple bead or cc immunity use

Item explenation


With you build focus on building up both damage and defensive items. I choose the ReEnforced boots over the others because it allows you to escape and engage much easier even when the enemy team lays down a bunch of cc on you. You can also try other boots, but it seems like the CDR just isn't worth dying more often.

You will then want to grab an aura item next, this start building your passive and give you some early defense. If you plan on getting the mystic mail item make sure to get it as early as possible as it will lose effectiveness over time.


Next I will normally buy witch-blade as it helps me reduce the effectiveness of physical carries. The attack speed and damage reduction is critical, and the item also helps to build up your passive.


The next item is sovereignty as this item will give you yet again another passive bonus while also providing a whopping 400 health and protections for yourself and your allies. Great for team fighting!

How to engage effectively play Ares

There is one important thing you need to remember when engaging (especially early game) DO NOT waste your ult when there are no allies around to help. The combo of his ult along with other Ults is one of the most deadly combinations in the game. When your Ult is up use your blink to get close to a cluster of enemy players. This way you can grab many more people with your ult and stack up the stun time from it. When you land an ult use your one and chain as many different people as possible then hit your three. You can also focus your chains on one person if you are specifically trying to slow, chase, and kill a specific player. The combination of these should be able to kill most squishies and seriously injure or potentially kill tanks and warriors.

When your ult is down play a supporting role. If you have a high level of blink feel free to blink on squishy enemies (with help) and harass or kill when possible. Follow the same strategy of chaining up then hitting your three. If you dont have any help available try to avoid being out numbered, as they can often team up and kill you.

Another thing I recently found out is that if you stack your chains on the same person the slow will go up, but the damage stays the same. If you can hit multiple enemy gods with you chain you can utilize much higher overall damage and even take advantage of the extra 21 percent buff from Ares's two.

Counters to Ares and how to address them


***ains the (potential) Bane of Ares!!!

I have found that the best counters to Ares are high attack speed qin sais weilding ***ains. As they can cut you and your allies down very quickly. When an ***ain jumps on me i tend to hit my enfeebling curse to minilize damage and often secure a chaining and then a kill. Expect to die if caught unaware by a Kali, Mercury and the like. Also As a side note the WitchBlade will help counteract the Qin's Sais
