Introduction

Welcome to the beginning of my Silly Smite Builds series!
*DISCLAIMER* THESE BUILDS ARE IN NO WAY MEANT TO BE GOOD, BUT UNORTHODOX AND MIND-PUZZLING, OVERTHROWING YOUR ENEMIES ONLY BY THE SHEER "WHAT?" FACTOR. CHOOSE TO PLAY THESE BUILDS AT YOUR OWN RISK OF BEING BADMOUTHED, REPORTED, AND/OR HARASSED. THESE BUILDS ARE MADE FOR THE PLAYER TO HAVE FUN AND EXPERIENCE GODS IN NEW WAYS, AND (QUITE POSSIBLY) SHED LIGHT TO NEW METAS.

Wanna play a classic 2-1-2 Conquest? How about a 3v3 Joust? Does your team not have enough CC? Then Support Anubis is a perfect choice if you don't have a squishy support on your team!

Support Anubis is meant to be played only one way--very carefully. If you aren't careful, wary, and defensive, then you will not only do badly, but you'll be useless unless your team can get to late game AND protect you while you farm.

Support Anubis is in no way, shape, or form meta for one reason: he just isn't a good support. However, that's his virtue. Anubis as a support character means that he can focus on slows, stuns, and Minotaur melting rather than using all of his skills on one mummified victim. Instead, a support build is reminiscent of a walking corpse or a lively plague-ist.

The two builds featured in this guide are my personal builds used for an offensive Support Anubis and a defensive Support Anubis. These builds seem to work best in 3v3 Joust games.

Items

The next step in playing a support DOT mage is learning what items are fitted for the best situations. Once again, there's nothing stable about these builds, but, for the most part, these are basic guidelines. For instance, staple items in each build will be addressed, and playstyles described to the best of my ability.

PLAGUE AURA BUILD (Offensive):

The first items to get are level 1 Boots, level 1 Shard, level 1 Witch Stone, and a health potion. You won't get much gold unless you purchase Watcher's Gift or trade out Boots of Celerity for Midas' Boots, but in Joust, there's no worry for those GP5 items. After you finish your Witch Stone, finish your Static Shard, then build your Boots to Celerity (or Midas' if Conquest).

After that, building Mystical Mark and Salvation are extremely important, as having the Witch Stone, Mummify, and the damage Aura all at once keeps enemies from escaping your deadly ticks of damage, whether you kill them or not. The biggest part of your support is keeping your fear factor high. The enemies can see your wonky build, but they won't necessarily know the power of DOT unless they've had multiple experiences with full damage Ares players.

Building into Hide of the Nemean Lion is also very important, as that increases your passive damage potential. You'll pretty much be basic attacking for double if you're being attacked by a melee God and ticking them with Mystical Mark. Your basic attack plus Nemean's reflect plus Mark aura equals pain.

The only thing that makes you inescapable with a good, bulky carry by your side is throwing down your Hands with Gem of Isolation. Using the double slow to aim your stun better can make great ganks, initiations, and kill secures. You can't let them escape you too often, so, if need be use a skillful Death Gaze on escaping players. You don't need to stun them to hit them with your ultimate, y'know.

To give yourself that extra tankiness and sustain, Gem of Gaia is a good late game item for you, since you've already got your physical protection and offensive passives, so grabbing that and Salvation will make you a walking mana pool with toxic DOT capabilities.

SUPPORT AURA BUILD (Defensive):

A similar start, but replace the Witch Stone with level 1 Breastplate of Valor. Physical protection, mana, and CDR later on at max makes Anubis a terrifying support, able to spam more Hands and Mummifies. The next time you go home, you are to max out whichever pair of Boots you need and Breastplate soon afterwards. Max out that Restoration Shard next, which, as under-appreciated as it is, is a really good sustain ability for those who can wiggle (Celerity makes it so much easier).

Salvation and Winged Wand make you even better, keeping wiggle room and mana sustain for you and your lane partner(s) high. Don't forget that Salvation also heals--more for characters with higher health. The key part of Support Aura is the get your aura items after your sustain, which is to keep your partner in the game once you've got your sustain to hold the fort without them.

Sovereignty and Aura Void Stone will make not only you more tanky, but your lane partner stronger and, if they've magical damage, more penetrable. Your group fights will also benefit more if you've got the Void Stone, since, if they've caught on to what you're building, won't focus you too much. With that said, Ymir jungling is an amazing thing with Anubis support.

For your final item, in the midst of the late game team fights, Hide of the Urchin will stack protections on you like you needed it (you kind of do). Not only does it give you health, mana, and protections, it also ADDS more protections, which makes Anubis a scrawny little tank.

Skills

Mummify and Grasping Hands are all you need to perfect before you start playing Anubis as a support character. Skillshots that don't miss will be your virtue, and, even if they have beads, you still have a faster cooldown than they do.

Plague of Locusts and Death Gaze are used to tick away creeps and Gods, alike. Don't be afraid to use your ultimate on creeps, since you're support anyways. You won't be trying to get kills, but keeping it handy just in case, sometimes, is more useful than clearing the creep wave.

Anubis' passive, Sorrow, won't really have lifesteal, since it requires item scaling. Instead, you'll focus on Sorrow's protection steal, which is a lot more useful than people are lead on to believe. It makes you more beefy and it makes your enemies squishier.

Team Work

Team work is a huge part of being successful in any outlandish support character. The best way to cooperate is to know who you are playing with and call them in Skype. If you have to, call duo lane with your partner. Playing such a strange and out-of-the-blue God build is sure to raise eyebrows, but, if you pull it off, you'll be the talk of the lobby (that is, if the people in the lobby know what Smite is).

Ranked Play

Don't do it.

Not yet.

Summary

So, you wanna be that guy. I understand. I've been that guy all my life. Just remember that this build is for fun, not competitive play. I thoroughly encourage the brave and wild to try this build and send replays to me, upload videos to YouTube, stream the games, etc. I believe that getting good at a game like Smite can draw from playing in styles out of your comfort zone, and that's what my Silly Smite Builds series plans to do for you. I plan to kick you out of your metaphorical comfortable home and stick you in an awkward bar, hoping to see you perform on the scum-filled stage with all the bikers, brawlers, and drinkers cheering you on. Not only would it please me to see people try this build, a virtual Revolution could even start, if you think about it. Not a thing to overthrow Hi-Rez, I love those peeps, but to let Hi-Rez know that even we can come up with ideas that they never planned just to flesh out their amazing game even more.

Keep Smiting, my fellow players, and, if you dare try this build, good luck and Godspeed (not Mercury, he's annoying).
