Introduction

Hello, and Welcome to my first ever god guide. My BB Coding is a bit rusty, and I think I repeated some info, but I think I'll manage. Give any feedback you think I deserve!

This is a Work in Progress (W.I.P.) I will complete the items tab when I have the time, and I am open to suggestions!

Also, sorry if you can see the filler text.

Ra 101

This is Ra. He will burn you to ashes if you let him. If you don't let him, he will support his own team to the point where you instinctively reach for f6! In short, in the right hands, his team is assured victory. He has a good poke with Celestial Beam, good support with Divine Light, awesome heals from Solar Blessing, and great damage from his Searing Pain. An overall great pick, plus, he's given to you for free! who doesn't like free? Anyway... Ra. Damage. Slow.
Heals. And lazors. Hooked yet? good, because I'm just beginning.

Pros / Cons

Pros
.
shield of regrowth
.
.
+ High Sustain
.
+ High Damage
.
+ High Support
.
+ One of the best heals
.
+ great support slow
.
+ He's Ra
Cons

.
- Easily focused
.
- No Escape
.
- Can't 2v1
.
- Suspectible to CC
.
- low CC output
.
- his laugh is easily mocked

Skills

Speed of Light is a great passive for a god without an escape. It allows you to be more mobile while laning, and providing a free Sprint at max stacks, or it might as well be. Do NOT be afraid to spam abilities just for the passive.
.
.
.
.
Celestial Beam. This will be your main source of damage. Don't worry - it does a lot of damage for a single-hit ranged spell. It also has a short cooldown, so it's spammable. It can also waveclear very effectively. Due to your Solar Blessing also being able to waveclear, don't be afraid to send it to the opposing soloer.
.
.
.
.
Divine Light is your support slow. It is also known as the Hug the Sun slow. NEVER USE IT FOR THE DAMAGE. EVER. It is not that great, and you just wasted your support slow. Instead, use it in teamfights. Your team will love the slow, and it can easily help finish off opposing gods. Great, yet lacking in and of itself.
.
.
.
.
Solar Blessing is more than a ray of light. It heals. a LOT. This is what gives you so much sustain, what makes you extremely useful in teamfights, and the reason why he's revered by so many people. It can also waveclear on it's own, so you can use Celestial Beam as a poke. With Rod of Asclepius, at max rank, you're healing about 100 health a tick. That's a LOT. With this, You can't die. Your team can't die. Your opponents... well... Sunbath?
.
.
.
.
Searing Pain. Ra Lazors. Need I say more? ...I guess I do. Whatever. This] ultimate is a lot like Celestial Beam, except the damage is higher. And it's instantaneous. A good snipe from this can seriously hurt the opposing solo laner, or his entire team. It's great for picking off stragglers of a teamfight that you dominated. And it's cooldown is low for an ultimate. Lazors!

Items

Items

REMEMBER: These are "core" builds. These are my reccomendations; you should deviate off of these to what you see fit, so I hope I don't get any "zOMG YOU BUILD SUUUUUUUUUX" in the comments, because you don't have to follow it! Just a disclaimer, carry on.
.
.

Core

.
. .
Any good Smite player will tell you to get boots first. This not only gives movement speed, but also much-needed mana, Power AND glorious Cooldown Reduction, one of the best stats for Ra. ONLY pick something else if you are 100% sure that this will not help your situation.
.
But Tal, what about Shoes of the Magi?
Shoes of the Magi are great if you're going to be picking up a cooldown reduction item later, and when you think you'll miss some penetration. I choose Shoes of Focus, but choose Shoes of the Magi if you feel that it will be more beneficial.
.
.
.
. .
Honestly, Focused Void Stone and Rod of Asclepius can be interchanged, depending on your opposing laner's build. Besides that, Focused Void Stone is a great pick. Power, Protections and Penetration - all great, especially on a god trying to build bruiser. This is one item that you should NOT miss, under any circumstances.
.
But Tal, why not the regular Void Stone?
Because the regular Void Stone is more beneficial if you're in the midst of a fight, like Ares. Ra stays away from the action mostly, so the focused version would help him more.
.
.
.
. .
Rod of Asclepius IS Ra's staff. EVERY SINGLE STAT helps Ra in a way that it helps little others. Power? Sure! Health? More to heal! Movement Speed? Ok, now my passive is OP!
Having any and all friendlies heal more health just by standing beside them? what do you THINK?!?
.
But Tal, what abou-
No.
But...?
I don't care, the answer is NO. Do not skip this item, or I will find you. I really will.
.
.
.
. .
Alright. Did the math. Apparently, Breastplate of Valor gives a higher DPS than Wall of Absolution. My bad, TT. Didn't mean to go all Cave Johnson on you guys there... anyway, Breastplate of Valor is my NEW preferred physical protection item. Mana is always good, but it's the CDR that makes this item a star. With both this and Shoes of Focus, you have max CDR. This means not only max healz, but the ability to use your ultimate every 30 seconds! If that doesn't make you buy it, just go to the comments section and read TT's and Jararo's arguments.
.
But Tal, then when do you get Wall of Absolution?
When you want to build a little tankier, or when Apollo decides to be Apollo. It gives you more physical protection than Breastplate of Valor with full stacks, and makes up the mana and CDR with MP5 and magical power. Still a powerful pick, but Breastplate of Valor is just a little better.
.
.
.
. .
As soon as I saw this item, I thought of Ra. His mana hungriness has always been a problem to me, more than other APC's. With this, along with the MP5 from Rod of Tahuti and Gem of Gaia itself, your mana regen is unparalleled - no need for Meditation! Any item that renders the enemy APC useless while also bossting your heals and lazors is a must.
.
But Tal, if Ra is as focusable as you say he is, why not Idol of Concentration?
If you pick up a Meditation early on, go ahead. If you play Ra right, you won't be an easy target TO focus, so mana-hungriness is a bigger priority in my mind. That little Vamana statue can save your life, though, so definitely take it if you don't take Gem.
.
.
.
. .
This one is a no-brainer. You need a power item to counteract the physical and magical protection items you got, but what? Rod of Tahuti, idiots. Even n00bs get this item. If you're trying to get ANY damage on someone, you get Rod of Tahuti. This item will even out your damage output and your tankiness to a point where they can only kill you if they TRY (which they won't) while being able to punish them, directly and indirectly, for trying. If you get Rod of Tahuti before the game ends, you WILL win. I guarantee it, or your gems back!

Ranked Play

There's not much to say here, as you should be acting as if it's ranked anyway, but I'll put in a few advanced pointers:

Ward Spots: When laning, ward the mouths of the channels above and below the Fire Giant, closest to your lane. This will give you adequate info of the opposing jungler (on your side, at least) without spamming your speakers with PINGPINGPINGPINGPING whenever it sees your opposing laner. It's also a good idea to ward the opponent's mid harpies before the game starts, so you know what opening they're doing - standard, red first, invade, etc.
When laning starts to break up, put up a lane-ward on your lane, than ward notable objectives - GF and FG, or a controversial tower. Finally, when teamfights break out, ward wherever you think that they will group up, as well as the FG (GF is moot at this point).

Combat Blink or Sprint?: You should always get one of these two. They will save your a$$ more than once. The question is, which one is better?
Depends.
It's actually simple: Combat Blink, by default. If the enemy has a cripple of ANY kind, get Sprint. But that's just my reccomendation, pick whichever one you think will help the most or prefer.

When do you pick Ra?: Usually when your team lacks sustain, or if their team comp is more focused on poking than going all in - but those situations are the best times to pick him. He is a solid pick most of the time.

most of the time?: Yup. Don't pick Ra if their team has good single-target dispatching capabilities even in teamfights: you'll be burst down before you can help your team. I would reccomend Hades or Odin if those circumstances arise.

Ward or Eye of Providence?: Eye of Providence. Ward consumables chew up money faster than you think; the Eye will pay for itself many times over.

Early, Mid, and Late game play

This is the section where I explain to you how to play Ra throughout the various stages of the game, from laning, to roaming, to teamfights.

Early Game

.
.
This is where you're going to have the hardest time, because you don't seem to be doing as much damage/healing as you should be. Remember that you can use Solar Blessing as a waveclear, and send your Celestial Beam at the opponent, to try and throw him off. Try to be closer to the wall than the jungle, in case a jungler gets past your wards. You just want to farm up, so don't try to do anything stupid, like towerdiving or getting cocky - that's the jungler's job.
.

If you get ganked:

Simply use Divine Light while walking towards your tower. When the blind activates, use your escape active. Spam your other abilities to try to ward them off if you have the mana to do so.
.

Rotating:

If your opposing solo laner leaves the lane, you can do something called Rotating - going from your lane to gank others. If your opponent backed, and your midlaner is pushed to his tower, go help him out by appearing behind his opposing lidlaner and give him a lazor to the face, followed by an infuriating slow and another lazor. By then, if your midlaner helped out or someone from the duo lane also rotated, the opposing midlaner should be dead. Then you can heal up whatever they did to you guys and go back to lane. Or, if your laning buddy is still out, maybe rotate to the duo lane.

Midgame (Middle Game)

.
.
By now, your Celestial Beam and your Solar Blessing should be maxed, at least. One of the towers in the lane should be down, whether it be yours or theirs (preferably theirs), and you should have at least completed your Rod of Asclepius. People, now free from their lanes, will be roaming around much, much more than in the earlygame, probably including you. Small teamfights may come up, make sure that you're there when they happen. Make sure you push to their closest tower before you roam - if your opposing soloer decides to stay in lane and push, it will take him longer, and will probably give enough time to set up a gank against him. The Gold Fury will also be a target during this time, so make sure to ward that area. (Hint: place the ward behind the GF's roost, it won't be destroyed if they decide to try and take it.)

Late Game

[/color]
Now this, this is when you shine. By now, about two tier 2 towers will have fallen on either side, and people stop roaming to try and push as a coordinated team. You should have completed your Breastplate of Valor and Gem of Gaia by now, and be level 20. If you have played Ra right up to now, they should be scared of you. If they still have someone trying to push a lane by themselves, then he's an easy pick - just get your team over there, and he's dead. Try to get your team on the offensive; having them see you closer to their pheonix than they are to yours produces a defensive instinct in the opposing players, causing them to retreat. In the late game, the best defense truly is a good offense. Make sure to ward the Fire Giant's volcano, as he will be a very powerful boon to the team who kills him. When they go after it, make sure that you're there to steal it!
.

What do you do in teamfights?

A little of everything, but mostly support. Your Divine Light makes a great initiation, giving a 33% slow to whoever is stupid enough to stand near you. Then you place your Solar Blessing right in the middle of their team; the enemies will flee from it, and your allies will pour into it. The effect is similar to Sir Francis Drake's strategy against the Spanish Armada. Once you've got them zoned out, send your Celestial Beam where the damage is needed. By then, if all goes well, one of the groups will have been dispatched. Use your Divine Light again to slow the other group, then smack them with Searing Pain. You can also use Searing Pain to pick someone who's low and thinks he can make it away (Silly mage, dashes are for physicals! :D).

Potential God Matchups

In this section, I will go over potential laning matchups, and what to do when you're in that position.

Summary

Thank you for reading. As I have said, this is a W.I.P., so expect more in the days to come!

This is my personal build/guide to Ra. If you don't like it, that's fine... just don't tell me to change anything in my guide unless it's BBC or Syntax related.

And remember... your Penta with Ra's ult didn't happen unless you have video evidence.

May the Pantheon be with you,

Thank you.

1.) Why Gem of Gaia that late? you'l be hurting yourself by getting it earlier imo, and it's so you don't have to back in between teamfights - if you do teamfight/FG/teamfight/GF/teamfight, backing will hurt your team. Gem will keep your mana up at least enough to be useful in those situations, because you always have at least a little mana. And if you still think I get it too late, feel free to put it up earlier in the buy order.

I want to give freedom in the picking of items, so I don't try to constrict people to deviating to only a certain list. I should add why I level my 1 and 3 alternately, though.

2.) you obviously didn't read this when is was color apocolypse. I probably caused at least one seizure.

3.) That's the next chapter I'm putting in. Just waiting until I have the time...

4.) People seem to always say that about me and the things I do: that I/it has high potential. I honestly have no idea why...

Sorry, for the delay, i'm super tired at school XD and i need to test the build :)

Scores : 75/100%

Items and skills : 20%/30%

The items are good but i have a question that isn't here. Why are we taking gem of gaia when it is already late in game? Don't you think the mana from breastplate is enough? Are there more alternatives than these. You should put alternatives too
Second, i don't really know about ra but you should give information why are you taking 1 and 3 together, not max one first then another?

BBcoding : 15%/20%

Though it doesn't include too many bb coding, the guide is very easy to read.

Information : 35%/50%

The information are goods. Most of the chapters are in it. But, shouldn't be there a guide for counter and partner. This will help a lot people (especially when i tried the build, i have problems fighting hel)

Bonus : 5/10%

Though there are no bonus chapters, i see a lot of potential here. Keep up the good work :D

Alright. Purged it of most of the colors, and switched Breastplate of Valor and Wall of Absolution. Now to focus on early/middle/late game play!

Well since the party is apparently happening here, I'll invite myself in.

First and foremost, the colors are simply too much (as already mentioned by the other fabulous people here). For instance, "Ra" has literally zero reason to be highlighted,* and the joke about reaching for f6 is good, but highlighting it simply detracts from it, especially when the paragraph is also saturated with BBCoding. Perhaps if it weren't surrounded by such brilliantly golden icons, it wouldn't be so bad - but it's a bad habit to get into, regardless. The formatting, especially in the Skills section, is great, but, again, eliminate unnecessary colors.

As for the quality of the content, there's very little I disagree with** so it gets great points there. However, it is lacking in quantity of content. Considering you seem to be an avid supporter of the "Natsu Missile"*** nuking guides with little work put into them, I think it's somewhat hypocritical that your excuse for lack of contents is that you simply can't focus. If you can't put out a high-quality guide yourself, don't chastise others for publishing guides that seem to lack effort.

Overall, though, it's looking good. It just needs less color and more content.

Also, in regards to:

Dude, there's a reason your guide has twenty-three votes and is still not at five-bars, and that is because its formatting is terrible. In fact, if his "formatting is just plain ugly and so is the build," then you have no formatting whatsoever; giant walls of colorless text and broken images make it incredibly hard to read.

And lastly, @Natsu, I see very little difference between his comment on this guide and your comment on mosts guides. He did suggest improvements in the form of reducing the amount of color in the guide. I disagree with how he presented it, but it's very similar to your own posting style.

*Take it from someone who made that mistake himself. Hell, I'm still finding colored text for gods in my Hel guide after all this time. If you spot any, let me know and I'll undo it, lol.

**Other than Wall of Absolution - as I mentioned before this guide was even published, I believe Breastplate of Valor to be far superior to it on Ra. I know you went over it, but I still disagree.

***Easily defeated by Red Velvet cake.

You would do Tal a favor by giving reasons And suggestions, instead of leaving a ride remark.

Tal, I will review this when I go to Snub's house.

My first hater!

Also, seeing that you own the most viewed Ra guide, I think that the hating is *partially* trying to defend your guide's top spot. Most certainly not the only reason, but it's in there.

I wanted to say that I loved the detail on the items section, especially the rebuttals for other possible items.

I'm aware that this guide isn't complete, so I can't rate it as is. But what I can see is very promising. Easy upvote.

I completely agree with you on this. My one problem with pretty much everything is a lack of focus, even to the things I love, like Smite. This guide took so long to make for the sole reason of only working on one item per sitting, roughly. I would LOVE to add new content, but I can't focus enough to do it.
