Introduction

Hi there! My name is iDiscord. I will start off by saying that I am NOT a perfect Smite player, nor will I ever claim to be. I do however have over 8000 hours in the game, so I kinda know what I'm talking about.

This is my Saitaima inspired Mercury build and I have used this for quite some time. I often get around 15 kills with this build in arena. (THIS IS AN ARENA ONLY BUILD, IT WILL NOT WORK IN JOUST OR CONQUEST.)

This is my first ever build, so be nice. ;)

Let's begin.

Pros / Cons

PROS:

Insane area damage (when built)
Can one-hit most squishy gods
Stupid amounts of attack speed
Crits hit for around 1200, but can reach upwards of 1600
Even tanks fear you.

Cons:
Squishy as f*ck
Mana hungry early game
You almost always get focused
Ult is hard to hit at long ranges.

Skills

Merc's skills are his bread and butter, while generally being an auto-attack based god, his skills are what makes this build.

Passive: Fastest God Alive
This basically makes it so that the more movement speed you have, the harder you hit. I only put one movement speed item in the build because of his Number 2, Maximum Velocity, giving you increased movement speed anyway. It also means that the more you travel, the more damage your next basic attack will do (up to 50% more) , so don't ever stop moving!

Number 1: Made You Look!
No, not you. It's the name of the abilit... (sigh) nevermind.
This is THE ability. This one. Right here. See. Boom. This causes Merc to target a ground location to which he dashes there, deals damage to every enemy in the area, and dashes back all in less than a fraction of a second. This ability will do 90/115/140/165/190 with 50% scaling, the radius also increases as you level it up, meaning more hits, more procs of Golden Bow and general annoyance. Did I mention that this counts as a basic attack, because I should. This means that it will proc items, like Golden Bow, it applies on-hit effect, like Frostbound Hammer, and most of all, IT CAN CRIT.

Number 2: Maximum Velocity
This is Merc's buff. It provides him passively with extra movement speed as you level it up, meaning you hit harder thanks to his passive. When you activate it, it gives Merc machine gun fists. (Okay, not literally, but close enough) It grants you 30/40/50/60/70% extra attack speed. Meaning more fists and more crits. Gotta go fast!

Number 3: Special Delivery
This causes Merc to dash forward in a straight line, he then stops at the first god hit (if any) and runs around them dealing 10/15/20/25/30 +15% scaling every .25s and stunning for 1 second. You won't be getting many kills with this, but it's certainly useful. This is your engage, this is your escape, this is your chase, this is your lifesaver. Use it wisely! It can also help you push enemies away from their base as after the effect ends, the enemy god is thrown in the direction you are facing. (The camera, not Merc) Throw people into walls, into teammates, into your base, anywhere really.

Number 4: Sonic Boom!
This ability causes Merc to build up energy. When you use it, you'll see a long target extend on the floor the longer you charge it, when you click, you will pause for .25 seconds and then dash instantly to the end of the target, anybody unfortunate to be caught in the long strip will take 200/275/350/425/500 +100% scaling in damage, and they will also spin around on the spot for 1.5 seconds while they are disoriented and then be facing a random direction. I will say this now, you DO NOT have to charge it fully to do all the damage, and it will only catapult you across the arena, leaving you nose first into the rest of the enemy team with your pants down. Not good. Use this at a relatively short-medium range and follow up with your skills. If you think you can kill somebody at long range with this, then lead the target to where they are going to be and be ready to escape if it goes wrong.

SKILL ORDER:
Ult up:
Sonic Boom to disorient the targets (try not to over-extend)
Maximum Velocity to supercharge your DPS
Made You Look to hit everybody simultaneously
Auto attack until dead. If they aren't dead and are escaping, use Special Delivery to chase (IF YOU HAVE THE HEALTH) and hit them again with Made You Look when it's off CD.

Ult Down:
Special Delivery to engage your target and throw them backwards, away from base or teammates
Maximum Velocity ideally when they're still airborne
Auto attack to the face
If they are escaping, use Made You Look to finish them off (aim this where they're running to)

Items

Always, always build Golden Bow. It allows you to hit all the minions at the same time, do a lot of annoying damage to gods and will help you achieve multi-kills. Always build this item.

Warrior Tabi is my next choice. It provides extra damage early game and will help you net early kills. I choose this over Ninja Tabi because Merc has a built in attack speed buff, and Ninja becomes very useless early game.

After that, build Hydra's Lament. It will give your next basic attack 30% more death after you use an ability. The best thing is that your Number 1 move, Made You Look!, COUNTS AS A BASIC ATTACK. This means that your Hydra's Lament is basically Polynomicon for physicals. I like to use his 3, Special Delivery, to engage and to throw the unfortunate soul against a wall (if possible) and immediately follow up with 1, and a few punches to the face.

You will notice that I don't include Rage in this build, I do however include Deathbringer. This is because it gives you extra crit damage and while you have this, turning what was 2x damage into 2x damage + an extra 40%. It also provides you with critical chance, not much, but that's where we move on to...

...Malice. Yeah, you don't see this much anymore. Malice is insane in this build. It provides you with more power, even more crit chance and if the enemy somehow gets away, as long as you crit them, they're still taking damage! This has gotten me more kills than I can remember and the ticking damage is to be feared.

I finish it all nicely in a ribbon wrapped box with Titan's Bane. Or this mode, it should be called Guardian's Bane. (I'll leave now.) This item helps you punch guardians so hard that they tend to need an ambulance afterwards. This item gives Ymir cold feet, it gives ***bakharna nightmares, and it even makes Ares look like Ratatoskr. Just buy it and see what I'm talking about.

Summary

Thank you for reading my guide on Mercury, the Messenger of the Gods!

Any suggestions will be welcomed and implemented if they are good/relevant.

(I know nothing about BBCode, so VHH)

Feel free to add me on the game at iDiskord1 :D

10/5 EDIT: Holy sh*t! Thank you guys so much for upvoting and viewing this guide. I had no idea that my knowledge would be this popular! I might upload a few guides for other gods that I enjoy playing, so look out for those! ;)

Again, thank you guys so much!

I would suggest Jotunn's Wrath instead of Golden Bow since it offers physical penetration. The point of assassins is to gank and pick off the enemies one by one. In my opinion, if there are enough enemies clumped together to make value of the Golden Bow, it would be best to abscond. I would also suggest Warrior's Tabi first for cheap damage. Though the rest of the build was nice. Getting Transcendence first in place of Hydra's Lament can also help with the mana hungry situation and then Warrior's Tabi.

I usually never make it to the last item in Arena :/ Sometimes I only get one or two critical items a game :/

You can sub out Malice for Rage for a cheaper alternative, but personally, I really like Malice in this build. You can interpret my build however you want, if you find it works better for you, then go ahead. :)
