Overview of Odin

Odin is an iconic God, but he's does fairly poor in the solo lane due to his high mana usage, low healing and strictly melee abilities. This guide and build help overcome Odin's poor solo lane. First off, Odin is an early game God, you literally press 2 and 1 to hop on someone and nearly take out all their health early game, This will also nearly insta-kill the minions most times in wave. The goal with Odin is not to play a safe early game really, You CANNOT let them take control of the wave, If they are a Warrior or assasin then this is fairly easy, merely "bird bomb" (2&1) onto the opposing God, while at the same time hitting at least half their wave, this accounts for a large clear and does enough damage for either a kill or enough to make them back off. You must djump on them before they start their clear, Yes you could take more damage from abilities, but that is nothing compared to a wave of minions on you if you hesitate. You have to be conservative with Odin's mana, And will probably have to back many times early game, so the goal is to make the enemy back first. If the enemy stays off wave, then clear wave with autos, if they get near enough for a Bird Bomb, hit them, make them scared, make them back off, Don't chase too deep for a kill however, once you hit level 5 you don't have to chase, just press 4. If you successfully can get past early game with a kill or two inside your arena, and no deaths and still have a tower, It's smooth sailing, especially if you are fed. From the mid game to Late game you play him like you would play Chaac, just a little more conservative.

Why have you not explained his skills or given us tips and skills to use while playing him? Combat blink is never needed and if you do feel like you need it you need to work on positioning and awareness. When playing solo you need to rush tier 2 of an item that gives you defence against your lane opponent. for example steel mail against physical or tier 2 of stone of gaia against a magical god. As odin you will want to be a bruiser and build slightly tanky, this makes runeforged hammer a must have and I really don't see why you have hydras lament there. You overcap cdr and its awful on doin, it would be better to go for a defence item to help the team (maybe another sov or a pestilence) or you could go for titans bane or frostbound hammer. Spirit robe is a great item due to its protections and cdr as well.

I don't have combat blink, then eg ulnar blink is for surprise in team fights since his one and two together take forever and give yourself away, and if you say I need better positioning for a bank and ult, you can hear Odin as well. And hiss jump is very slow. This can also be used to catch up to gods, since your leap is 80% of your damage, you don't want to use it to catch up, but you want it for the damage.

I agree with SepticFir8 about the first build. Runeforged Hammer would be a nice swap for Ancile. Also, building Mystical Mail so late hurts. You want to rush an item like that for the early damage and tankiness against an enemy physical. Similar concept with Ancile in that you want to build it early for the extra health to stay in lane and stacks. Building that after Stone of Gaia would provide seriously good sustain, and tons of protections. I'd also stay away from Greater Blink as you already have your Lunge to initiate. Purification Beads to help avoid CC or Combat Blink to get out of bad situations or your ult would probably be better, and has worked well for me. Some other items to look at are Breastplate of Valor and Hide of the Urchin. With Breastplate becoming cheaper, you can get it sooner for the extra birdbomb mana, Great CDR, and Physical protections. Quicker way to be tanky and oppressive than Mystical Mail, but would need testing for your playstyle. Urchin is just all around value for tankiness on either side, and helps you transition into the Mid to Late game, where your play seriously falls off.

]Eh, I don't care for your first build too much. It just looks a little too specialized. Also, some of your cooldown reduction items overlap; as in, I don't see the point in Hydra's Lament. Your cooldown reduction is already maxed out, why use that item? Perhaps some more penetration?

Now, I really like your second build. As a matter of fact, it is almost identical to the build I use almost exclusively. If you swap out Ancile for Runeforged Hammer, you have a ton of Physical Protection as well as Physical Power. Likewise, although your second build is designed to go against magic users, you could probably be ok just getting Stone of Gaia as a first item and you can last amazing well against a magic user. By the time you get your third or fourth item, you'll probably be getting in teamfights and be glad you have some physical protection.

If you're open to suggestions, build Transcendence third, build either Stone of Gaia or Runeforged Hammer first, depending on your solo opponent, then build the other items as you see fit. I REALLY like VoidShield and Jotunn's Wrath too.
