Welcome to my Odin guide for 05/05/2015. This build is primarily for Arena, but I use the same build for just about everything. The only difference is the last item, which could be swapped out for either something tankier like the Mystical Mail, or the Titan's Bane.
This is, in my opinion, the most rewarding way to play Odin. His auto attack hit chain sucks, and he's not as tanky as other warriors. What does that leave you with? Abilities, and Odin's abilities hit like a truck.
Pros
High burst damage
Great Mobility
Forces enemies to play cautiously
Attacks are AoE and easy to land
Quickly turns the tide of a fight
Excellent teamfight capability
Cons
Only escapes are primary source of damage or combat blink
Own ultimate can put you in danger
Squishier than other warriors
Attack is telegraphed unless attacking from out of sight
The item choices are pretty straightforward.
Cooldown reduction is the biggest priority. The Winged Blade can be swapped out for Hydra's Lament for a slight damage increase and 5% extra CDR at the cost of some survivability and movement speed. Most often, Winged Blade is the way to go.
After CDR, Health is stacked. While not AS effective as protections, it provides survivability to both Magical and Physical, making it less situational. The Frostbound Hammer also adds a nice slow effect to make hitting enemies caught in your ult a little easier, and preventing enemies from escaping your team once you open on them.
Lastly, Combat Blink can help tremendously. Most often, you'll be using your only escape as an attack, and once you use your ult, you're kind of stuck there. If there are any enemy mages outside of it, they're going to light you up unless your team zones them properly, which, let's face it, in arena is a pipe dream. Just be cautious when its on CD.
You only have one combination as Odin. 2 - 1 - 3. Shield yourself with your 2 from a distance, and jump at enemies with your 1. This also detonates the remaining amount on your shield as damage stacked on top of the jump damage itself. Immediately follow up with your 3, which is a spinning aoe slash / slow. Clean up with auto attacks, or get out of there if other enemies are around.
Your skill leveling priority will be 2 > 1 > 3 > 4. 2 adds more damage to your jump attack then the actual jump does.
Odin's jump combo can either be used as an opener or a finisher. The actual combo itself will do well over 50% of the enemy's health to squishier targets, and about 30% to tanks. The most effective time to attack is when teammates are engaged in a close quarters fight. Enemies typically stick around in the fight until they feel like they pass their risky health threshold.
Odin's shield telegraphs that he's about to jump. Staying out of an enemy's direct line of sight and jumping at them around the 50% health mark is almost a sure kill. You can also wait until they start to run away from your team, and jump in the direction they're running to cut off their escape. Watch for enemies that have escapes, and don't waste abilities on them unless you know they don't see you.
If you're caught out by yourself and getting chased, drop your ult and use your jump to escape, leaving your pursuer inside the Ring. If jump is on CD, use your Combat Blink.
This can also be used to save allies or block out enemy minions.
