Introduction

Hello! I'm Lizzia and this is my first guide so bare with me if it is a bit wonky. Please leave a comment if you want to give some criticism on how I can make my guide better and make sure to give me an upvote if you enjoyed it!

Nu Wa

Nu Wa is one of the few gods with a global ult and even fewer gods with a stealth ability as well as high burst potential. Her main form of damage/cc relies on two abilities, Clay Soldiers and Shining Metal. If played correctly you can do extreme damage to an enemy especially a fellow squishy.

Updates

Updated 2/21/15:
-Changed Shoes of the Magi to Shoes of Focus due to Season 2 item changes
-Removed Arena build, basically the same as Conquest, no need for the two tabs.
-Updated Skills and Items chapter w/ bb coding

Updated 2/22/15:
-Added warlock's sash as an optional Stacking Item vs/with Book of Thoth
-Updated Starting Items
-Added Obsidian Shard and Rod of Tahuti to Core Items.
-Added more clear explanation to Items

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Amazing lane clear
  • Huge burst potential
  • Global ult
  • Underboob

Cons

  • Squishy
  • Useless passive imo
  • Poor ult dmg early game
  • Relies on two abilities for her really only form of cc

Skills

Strength of Wood
Personally, I find her passive basically useless. It's random and partly lucky if you happen to be on the sixth basic attack to root the enemy at the right time. I'd understand if she was still a basic attack god like she was pre-remodel but she isn't reliant on her basics anymore. Don't stress over timing her passive too much, at least that my take on it. The 5 year old in me can't stop from giggling at the name either.

Mysterious Fog
Most of the time I don't use her fog for stealth because of the simple fact that it's a giant circle that enemies try to steer away from, which is why I find it more valuable after you have used Clay Soldiers and Shining Metal to use your Mysterious Fog to add that extra damage they can't get away from because they have just been stunned.

Clay Soldiers
For Nu Wa's Clay Soldiers to do what you want you need to be right next to the god you want to stun with Shining Metal because these little *******s take enemy minions a priority over enemy gods, which imo is very annoying and needs to be fixed but we all know Hi Rez will never do that so we just have to deal with it. Although, don't underestimate your little suicide bombers, I've "secured" a few kills from my teammates because my Clay Soldiers gave the finishing blow themselves and it is a very satisfying accomplishment.

Shining Metal
Once you get Shining Metal leveled a bit it starts doing ridiculous amounts of damage especially when you combo it with your Clay Soldiers. I would suggest trying to keep your Clay Soldiers up for your Shining Metal, it pracically doubles the damage you would do with Shining Metal alone.

Fire Shards
The first two or three levels of Fire Shards it does very low damage, so unless an enemy is literally almost dead Fire Shards most likely won't finish them off. Also, remember that when you use your ult you become cc immune so using it to get out of an Ares ult for instance, isn't a bad idea if you beads are not up.

Skill Leveling

It's important you don't level your Clay Soldiers completely until you finish Shining Metal and Mysterious Fog. Having leveled your Clay Soldiers twice to get two minions at level 3 it would be a waste to level Clay Soldiers all the way just to get that one extra minion when you could be leveling your other more damaging abilities, remember that your main damage comes from exploding your minions with Shining Metal. Don't forget to level Fire Shards whenever possible :)

Items

*Note: This build can be situated to fit any other game mode such as Arena/Joust/Etc.*

Core Items

Shoes of Focus
Originally I always purchased Shoes of the Magi over Shoes of Focus but now due to the changes in Season 2 to Shoes of the Magi which removed the penetration they would give it's now safe to say the only reasonable option is to get Shoes of Focus.

Chronos' Pendant
Personally, I just always get Chronos' Pendant on Nu Wa, pre-Season 2 I would get Shoes of the Magi along with Chronos' Pendant to give me 25% cdr but even with the changes that have forced me to get Shoes of Focus I still find Chronos' Pendant to be very valuable for the simple reason of the lower your ability cooldowns are, the more often you can use Fire Shards. You may also want full cdr but more protection so replacing Chronos' Pendant with Breastplate of Valor may fix your problem.

Obsidian Shard
The only thing that's just as important as power on Nu Wa, is pen. Which Obsidian Shard does the job perfectly while also giving a decent amount of power along with it.

Rod of Tahuti
I think it's a natural thought that if you want power on a magical god Rod of Tahuti is one of the first options. Tahuti=Power

Situational Items

warlock's sash magi's blessing

Book of Thoth/warlock's sash
I wanted to include the two main stacking items together. I think when it comes down to choosing it depends on personal preference, I prefer Book of Thoth, while others warlock's sash. Occasionally I will get warlock's sash but it depends on the team I'm going against. There's always the option for double stacking, in which you buy both, but I would only recommend doing so if you are ahead in level and gold.

Polynomicon
Since the nerf quite a bit ago a lot of people don't get Polynomicon unless they happen to be playing an aa based god like Freya. While Nu Wa is not one of those gods anymore since her rework, her passive still incorporates basics and I find the extra burst along with power and mana to be worth the buy. Besides, in Season 2 they buffed it a bit!

Bancroft's Talon
Cheap for the power it gives, not really much else to say.

Gem of Isolation
I usually get this item just for it's passive, the 70 power just makes it worth the buy. Getting Gem of Isolation and using Mysterious Fog on an enemy is just as annoying as a Whirlpool with Gem of Isolation.

Soul Reaver
This is such a dirty item but gives such a good feeling when its passive procs. If you want to be dirty, get it.

Ethereal Staff
I get this quite often, I find it beneficial since it gives power and health, which are both things Nu Wa needs since power makes her stronger and health makes her less squishy.

Void Stone
Good item if 4 or 5 enemies are magical, allowing you to get power while also building protection against them.

Divine Ruin
Definitely rush this if you're going against say an Aphrodite in solo lane. You want to be able to shut her down early and have her fall behind, which as Nu Wa should be quite easy if you can damage her enough that her decreased heals are meaningless.

magi's blessing
If there is an immense amount of cc on the enemy team then don't be afraid to get magi's blessing, especially if you're vs a Hercules in solo.

Actives

Greater Aegis
Good counter for an annoying Loki jungle that just keeps babysitting and ganking your lane.

Greater Purification
Can be used for offensive/defensive reasons.

Greater Sprint
Best used for escapes, can be used to catch up to an enemy as well.

Girdle of Inner Power
Best to get if you want to add extra damage to your burst or even pop before using Fire Shards to increase potential of killing a low enemy who thought they got away.

Weakening Curse
Divine Ruin not enough to stop Aphrodite? Getting Weakening Curse can help make sure she cannot heal and is even more useful if the enemy team has more than one healer. Just make sure to get her to use Undying Love before popping Weakening Curse, as she can remove the affects.

Combat Blink
I'd suggest only getting this if the enemy team has some annoying Odin and Poseidon type combo wombo that you just can't stop.

This build is amazing. Thanks for sharing!

Just to note:
I believe the reason why people like using 'Warlock Sash' over 'Book of Thoth' (or just period.) is because of the health it gives Nu Wa then also adding magical power. Same thing as 'Ethereal Staff.'

What I find that a lot of people miss (actually it's mostly my friends.) is that, the more health Nu Wa has the more health the 'Clay Soldiers' have.
Anyways, liking this guide.

As per request, I am back!

The guide certainly looks better! However there are many things you can touch up in both the itemization and guide.

It seems as though you generally know what to build on Nu Wa but you can't just list every single magical power item in the game and call them all situationals. I know it's not all of them but you've got to be a bit more organized, classifying as such items as such items.

For example, I assume you usually have one stacking item, either Book of Thoth or warlock's sash. Either only put Book of Thoth (which I assume you prefer and what I would put) or seperate Book of Thoth and warlock's sash as stacking items in their own subsection that can be chosen by the reader.

Power alternatives =/= situationals. Items like Bancroft's Talon, Polynomicon, and Gem of Isolation can fit under the general category of power. I would just remove Ethereal Staff if I were you, it's horrible, only eh on some damage supports.

Situationals would include Divine Ruin, magi's blessing, and Void Stone.

Your guide portion is pretty well done. However you are missing a couple things. With a god like Nude Wa, you need a portion for skill combos. 2->3->1 is the general combo. Another couple of things you may or may not want to add on are gameplay, matchups (solo lane you might want this), and teamwork.

I'm not really good with Nu Wa's skill order so I can't comment on that. The only problem I have with your actual info (other than items) is the your undervaluing of Strength of Wood. The passive is extremely useful, helping you land your skill combo more accurately and get more auto's in for possible another root. Trying to keep your passive up should be a priority when fighting. Numerous times this passive has saved me because I had kept my 5th auto held and rooted the enemy ganker.

Overall this guide looks like a much bigger improvement from last time. Just some simple organization on the item build and addition of some sections should make this guide great!

I like the guide, a few mistakes here and there but its really nicely done. Oh, and it's pretty :')

My only real issue is your build. I'm very picky when it comes to building mid laners as it is my main role and I'd just like to add some constructive criticism as to what may help you out in the future.

1. Book of Thoth should never be a core item. It's situational, as the decision to build Warlock's Sash is always available. Personally, I prefer Warlock's so that is probably the basis of my argument.

2. CD is a great advantage to have in all aspects of the game, however I don't agree with your choice of Chronos' Pendant. Once again, an item I don't like building in mid. If you're building CD boots then its probably not necessary to build further into CD, but if you'd really like to, I think a Breastplate is more valuable. Protections and mana are more important at that stage than a little extra damage and some MP5 you'll be gaining from Rod of Tahuti soon after.

3. Magi's Blessing is very situational as you know, and if it's not completely necessary, Spirit Robe is a better choice in my opinion.

4. Obsidian Shard should be core. Always. Unless you'd prefer to build spear, which I wouldn't on Nu Wa.

5. Please leave space for early game pots, nobody is that confident. Therefore, I suggest a Tiny Trinket. It can be sold at any time, really. Pots and lifesteal from level 1-8 are essential unless you KNOW you're going to win lane.

So, in the end, your build should be:

Tiny Trinket > CD Boots > Book/Sash > Obsidian Shard > Situational Defense/Anti-healing/Extra CD/etc. item > Rod of Tahuti > Situational again. (I like to buy Soul Reaver last for a nice lol.)

Hope I was of assistance, and please take my criticism kindly as I did not at all mean to offend you and can see you are clearly a decent player. c:

Great guide, nice build that works. Most guides stack so much dmg early on It's almost like they don't even play. The tanky build also works quite well for conquest as you survive long enough to level and still dish out some dps mid to late.

Thanks for the tips and work into this guide. Makes a just alright god quite fun to play.

I mainly play casual and most times the junglers on my team never do mid camps.
I even call for them and wait until I feel it is contested before I go in for them.
I just have bad luck with junglers unless I am jungling with friends but if I am with a jungler that does them I do this most definitely.

I should have put a disclaimer.

Depending on who the opposing god is, of course, but sometimes I just go 3 all the way.

I've been playing new wa a lot and i do a lot things different then you, especially the build and the skill order.
This concerning conquest, especially.
So, i think Shoes of Focus is a must, more cd red means more damage since you can put your combo more frequently, and i dont think the pen is a must since you already have lots of it.
Since we are talking about lane Wa, ill would go for:
3-1-3-2-4-2 then Max Shining Metal, then Mysterious Fog and only then Clay Soldiers.
I think this is better because gives you better lane clear and you will get the third soldier only at the skill max level, thats why i think maximizing Mysterious Fog first is better, it does a a good amount of damage at max level. Why i think the clear is so important?
Book of Thoth, since you have amazing clear potential and Nu Wa scale very well into late game, Book of Thoth will only make you a lot more powerful, just focus on stacking it and you are fine.
Bancroft's Talon is actually cheap for what it offers, so i think it would be my second item, followed by Book of Thoth. In this point i would probably go for Obsidian Shard since it is cheap and will improve you a lot, OR i would go for Breastplate of Valor, this item is so good in mages since it has cd red and mana, of course i would only use it when it's necessary like fed hunter/assassin.
After that Rod of Tahuti ,a core, and to finish the build, a Soul Reaver, if you have the space for it(did not get the Breastplate of Valor/bancroft's talon/ ETC). Soul Reaver is so strong with Fire Shards at late game...
Of course the build should change depending on the game, sometimes i do not go for Book of Thoth and go for straight damage, Gem of Isolation, maybe. I just would not build Polynomicon on her, not that it is bad, but i think there are better choices.
warlock's sash is a great item too, but i would pick it defensively, for the kills Book of Thoth is better.
Void Stone is another great item, but it is not a core, if you have a fed enemy mage, it is perfectly good, but just when necessary.
So, to sums up everything:
Core

Shoes of Focus
Book of Thoth
Bancroft's Talon (i like this, it makes you get into the game very well, so it is a core for me, i guess you can change it if you want to.)
Defensive

Breastplate of Valor
Void Stone
Hide of the Urchin
Luxury

Rod of Tahuti
Soul Reaver
Optional

warlock's sash
Gem of Isolation
Obsidian Shard
Final build example

Shoes of Focus
Bancroft's Talon
Book of Thoth
Breastplate of Valor
Obsidian Shard
Rod of Tahuti

That being only an example.
Well, i think thats the way i figured her out, course thats only my opinion and i am not a great player or something, so i am up for discussion.

@Devampi I haven't gotten around to updating yet because of personal reasons but I will PM you to check it out when I do.

@Thumbsi That is actually a really good idea I gotta try that out haha. I still haven't been able to test out getting Book but I'll definetly PM you when I do so!

@Greenevers Thank you so much, I will definetly PM you when I make it better :)

I typed out this whole thing and then my connection timed out so I'll briefly explain what you did wrong and right.

Right:
Item Selection
Item Explanation

Wrong:
Skill Order - impossible
Ability Descriptions - needs more depth and individual tips for each ability

Missing:
Teamwork
Gameplay

I'm downvoting this, but feel free to personal message me if you think your guide is up to par in the future!
