Alien Attack

Released: September 22nd 2015
Updated on: September 26th 2015

The changes that are listen under only effect this specific guide.
Spoiler: Click to view

With all these changes made to blink, the game-plan is changed, but only for the duration of the cooldown. This nerf was targeted towards junglers who already have high mobility Serqet, Thor, because they could use this active to get into combat and then use their escape to get out of it. Nevertheless, these nerfs only affect the gameplay if you use Greater Blink to get out of trouble ( Combat Blink should be used for getting out of trouble), you will have some problems. If greater blink is used for engaging the enemy, so you can get closer instantly for your Frost Breath then, there are no problems with this nerf.

Introduction

Lore

Spoiler: Click to view

Ymir is a tank, and most people consider that he can only be built like that. Thankfully, that's not the case, this fat ice shard can do a lot more than just take hits for others. This build shows how a Ymir can be built for pure attack and destruction. Yes, it does leave him with out a lot of his protections, but he is a tank and can still take quite a beating before going down. Beware of CC chains as they will rip you apart (as they would anybody). So for the love of God (whichever one you like) don't bash the people you see trying to play a Ymir like this. It is not easy, the difficulty is average to medium hard, nothing too scary, but you need to give people time to adjust because you might just have one of the greatest matches ever.

Items

I have specifically picked these items for reduced cool down and more power for Ymir. Even tho in the end of the match you might have not done so much player damage you will still have a ton of kills because in a way you're acting as a fat assassin.

Watcher's gift

  • Price: 800
  • +100 Health
  • +5 Mp5

Passive

Spoiler: Click to view

Basic starter item for any tank/support, gives back health and mana allowing you to stay in lane longer, also the extra gold income helps you get your next items sooner.

Shoes of focus

  • Price: 1500
  • +15% CDR
  • +30 MP
  • +18% Movespeed
Perfect item for this Ymir build. As you have to have some shoes on these are just the thing. Giving you cooldown reduction that you need to spam your Glacial Strike as much as you can for lane clear and Frost Breath for emergencies or attacks.

Greater blink

  • Price: 900
  • Cooldown: 45s

Active

Spoiler: Click to view

Great active to use especially for jungle Ymir. Allows you to move faster across the map and even gank (blink in) from the jungle. The short cooldown is what makes this better than the combat blink which is used more for escaping than engaging.

Chronos' Pendant

  • Price: 2400
  • +75 MP
  • +25 Mp5
Passive
Spoiler: Click to view

No need for too much explanation on this one, gives decent MP and the passive helps you to spam abilities more often.

Polynomicon

  • +75 MP
  • +10% Lifestel
  • +300 Mana

Passive

Spoiler: Click to view
Just the perfect thing to go along with Ymir's passive Frostbite which gives 100% additional damage after using an ability. Which makes 160% extra damage on the next basic attack. Also this item gives lifesteal, again making you stay in lane even longer.

Obsidian shard

  • Price: 2050
  • +70 MP

Passive

Spoiler: Click to view
You've probably seen this on a lot of other mages, nothing to be really smart about here, gives magical power and magical penetration to help you tear trough protection on enemies.

Soul reaver

  • Price: 2940
  • +300 Mana
  • +100 MP

Passive

Spoiler: Click to view
If we set the high price of the item aside it gives more than decent MP plus the 15% damage. Also gives extra mana so your active is left for emergencies.

Rod of Tahuti

  • Price: 3320
  • +125 MP
  • +15 Mp5

Passive

Spoiler: Click to view
Pricy item, thus built last, gives more MP and some extra percents on top of that. One of the items that is used often on mages to deal decent amounts of damage.

Skills

Ymir is a melee magical guardian. So by default all of his abilities will either be around him or near him. He has no dashes, jumps or anything else that could help him move out of trouble faster, Greater Blink can be used, or Combat Blink. This makes Ymir a in your face God and he has to be played as one.

Frostbite

  • Frostbite dmg bonus: 100%
  • Ability type: Self buff
  • DOES NOT STACK
All of Ymir's abilities that affect enemies apply a debuff to the enemy called Frostbite. All of Ymir's basic melee strikes against a target afflicted by Frostbite do 100% more damage.

Ice Wall

  • Lifetime:2/3/4/5/6s
  • Ability Type: Ground Target
  • Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana
  • Cooldown: 14s
Spoiler: Click to view
You should get this ability at level 3 and leave it like that until you max out your other abilities. The extra time of the wall is useless against enemy gods unless they are cornered. It gives you just enough time to move away from your enemy. The wall should be used after the enemy God has dashed towards you. Also, the wall can be jumped through ( Anhur, Odin ) or jumped over ( Neith ). It blocks off physical attacks but you can still be hit through it with Eset stun, or you can use Frost Breath to freeze through it.

Glacial Strike

  • Damage:
    90/160/230/300/370 (+70% magical power)
  • Slow: 35%
  • Slow duration: 4s
  • Ability type: Line
  • Cooldown: 8s
  • Cost: 55/60/65/70/75 Mana
Spoiler: Click to view
Ymir's main damage ability, with the selected items the cooldown drops to 3 seconds which allows you to literally spam it if needed. This ability has a tiny delay from activating it to it actually doing damage, while Ymir swings his giant Popsicle. So unless an enemy is stunned it should be planned ahead for the location of enemy so you don't miss the attack. When used with lifesteal on a minion wave gives some health back, but since Ymir has one of the best life scaling in Smite it might seem minor.

Frost breath

  • Damage:
    50/90/130/170/210 (+50% magical power)
  • Stun: 1.25/1.5/1.75/2/2.25 s
  • Ability type: Cone
  • Cooldown: 18s
  • Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana
Spoiler: Click to view
Ymir's stun ability, perfect for setting up Glacial Strike for yourself or any other teammate. If your enemy is low on health or has no dashes or jumps you can combine this with your ult and do more than a decent amount of damage.

Shards of ice

  • Damage:
    500/650/800/950/1100 (+150% magical power)
  • Slow: 30%
  • Ability type: Area
  • Radius: 35
  • Cooldown: 90/85/80/75/70 s
  • Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 Mana
Spoiler: Click to view
Ymir ult is just that, an ult. It does insane amounts of damage and it can do it to multiple enemies at once. In combination with Ares ult No Escape or Odin ult Ring of Spears it is even better. Actually any stun can help Ymir ( even Frost Breath ) to destroy the opposition. Honestly, very, very rarely will you be able to fire off your ult at it's full potential, but still you can get good kills with it.

Pros / Cons

Pros
  • high damage
  • can jungle
  • can even go adc (Yes I tried this)
  • high mobility
Cons
  • squishier than usual
  • no escapes
  • ult can be evaded
  • can be killed during ult charging

Creeping / Jungling

If you decide to go jungle Ymir there are a few things you need to know. First of all instead of Watcher's Gift you need to get Bumba's Mask as it's one of the usual jungle starter items. Don't bother getting rage of gods or wrath of gods because you can put out enough damage. Instead of getting meditation first, get Greater Blink so you can move around faster and gank easier. Like any jungler you need to announce your ganks to your team especially because you are a huge ice shard that (at least in the beginning) moves really, really slow. If you haven't already, try this as soon as you can because it is tons of fun.

Team Work

As I already mentioned, you do not have as many protections as you usually do, so now you should not, I repeat, should not go into the middle of a teamfight all willy-nilly. You need to be careful, and (sometimes) point out to your team that you will not be doing the tanking but the damage. I've seen enough people who cannot conclude (by the items bought) that you are squishier than usual.
All that aside, if you have a good team build with several other gods who have Aoe abilities like Odin, Eset or even Cupid you will be fine with good team work.

Works good paired with

Summary

This concludes my guide for damage Ymir.
If built properly, with proper team work this build can be used in any position and in any occasion - solo, support, adc (yes adc), jungle, even mid, even tho I would not recommend the last option as it's really hard to play it without any protections and minimum escapes. Hope this build makes you happy as it made me the first time I tried this "crazy" idea. You have the full liberty to adjust the build and change any parts of it if you think it will benefit your gameplay. Also any new ideas, comments and improvements are welcomed very gladly as I wish to improve this guide as time passes.

I personally used this build for Seige/Conquest/Arena/and Clash. Did amazingly well every game and even had 0 deaths in all but arena (Got super focused after being an annoyance). Great build :D

... and then I saw that you put in meditation -_- ... please just no. Buy 5 mana pots if you're that worried about it. You'll get more mana early game from doing this, and you won't be locked into an active that's bad late.

Ymir needs blink for sure, and he wants something else too, there are so many better actives, locking in to med is just a shot in the foot for your team. Heavenly Agility, Weakening Curse, etc...

Ok, rant over. I like this guide a lot, still getting +1 Good job :)

I wasn't even sure about it myseld.
There quick edit over the phone :D
