DO NOT BUY Titan's Bane first item. This is what your final build should look like! :)

Notes Wind Demon is okay if you don't want any penetration, if you want to go only after the squishies by all means increase your crit. I would not advice to go after tanks and warriors when building this because you have zero pen. Most likely they will get Nemean Lion and Thorns ! be careful

Bloodforge now get this item if you are looking to stay in fight. If you ult and lets say you are picking people left and right then get this item. It will give you the shield and life steal. The reason I pick Asi over Bloodforge is that you get an attack speed, life steal and penetration for a cheap price !

Introduction

Hi once again, I'm back again with my second favorite assassin in Smite Mercury. Now... Mercury is one of the hard hitting assassin in the game, his late game is cancerous. I just want to mention that I'm not an expert in Conquest and also English is not my first language so please try to understand me. I will try my best to explain his abilities and items. Let's get right on to the build! :)

Items

Hello I just wanna go quickly over Mercury's build

Starting item would be Assassin's Blessing and a tier 1 Katana. Farm buffs and harpies and mid lanes, kill enemy as much as possible in early game. Then back finish your Golden Blade. Don't forget to sell this later on the game, this item only helps Mercury to clear faster during the early phase of the game. Then your second item would be Warrior Tabi Third item is of course you want to stack your Rage you want to stack as early as possible. At this point, I like to go for Asi for early life steal, attack speed and penetration for a cheap price! I would choose this over Bloodforge. Your 5th item would be Deathbringer then into Titan's Bane for final item. This build will help you go not only for squishes but you can do some damage to tanks as well.

Please click the question mark (?) in the build for explanation! :)

Choice of Relics

Now when it comes to relics, it all comes down to your personal preference or current situation. Feel free to experiment but this is what I often use when using Mercury.

Match Ups (Do's and Don'ts)

Knowing your target when playing Mercury is really important. Here's some gods you should go after. Keep in mind, you should try to ignore going after warriors and guardians in the early game, because you probably not gonna do a lot of damage to them until later in the game. However, that doesn't mean you couldn't kill them.

I find Malice unnecessary, due to the fact that you can already 1k crit without using it by changing it for a different item, but everyone has their own opinion.

Hastened Fatalis wouldn't be bad right?
1
Branmuffin17 (394) | May 24, 2017 4:34pm
It wouldn't be bad, but it is also not optimal. Merc wants as much power and crit potential as possible...if he builds up his passive, that's where you're getting that "1k Critz" claim...and even higher than that. It's also nice to stick to an enemy, but if he chooses his spots well, he's got his dash AND his ultimate to stay with enemies, and he can get in some free hits if he throws them into a nearby wall with Special Delivery.

Some say that people using Hastened Fatalis on hunters is a crutch...in a way, I consider it subjective...it's definitely got a strategic value...but on Merc, I probably would say it's more of a crutch, and it's best to learn to engage properly.

Also, as response to Killer above, adding Malice isn't necessarily about already doing 1k crits...it's about, when you use Made You Look as a poke, if it DOES proc, you're getting some extra damage out of it.

Just sayin. The ability order is very risky. I would go first and then third ability from the start of the game since dash is very important to run away from tricky situations like early ganks. Also I would put another point to first ability when I reach level 3 to make my clear a bit more effective when it comse to jungle camps.

wait im confused, if titan's bane gives penetration by percentage, and if you only build titan's bane as the only penetration item, does it have any effect?
because its % from 0. please explain ._.

SorenNoKitsune (10) | March 5, 2017 1:59am
Titan's Bane giving 33% penetration means it'll go through 33% percent of their protections.

Every God has base protections, some more than others. It usually lies around the... 50-70 range I think? So you'll be taking 33% of that off.

CirclesAreRound (14) | March 4, 2017 3:40pm
Titan's Bane does 33% penetration based on how much physical protections someone has built.

Hi Ron,

First, I'd like start off by saying great build! I haven't really messed with Mercury since the removal of Golden Bow, but now I'll have try out this build!

Here's a little clip from the last time I played Mercury in April 2016

RIP Golden Bow

Anyways, back to my main point of this comment...you have your Starter Items which is fine, but then the next section you have "First Back" with just Wind Demon. To me it seemed a little unclear on how to proceed with the build on your first back. Are you finishing off Boots this back or not? To a newer Smite Player this may be a little confusing.

I'd recommend maybe tossing Warrior Tabi in that "First Back" Section as well or indicate to finish off Boots before picking up Wind Demon.

Hi Bran,

So after experimenting on my own time, I have come to the conclusion that Heartseeker is worthless on Mercury. You're probably thinking I'm crazy, but Heartseeker does not proc (consume its stacks) on Made You Look. You could make a case for keeping it around for Special Delivery and Sonic Boom, but after level 12 or so Special Delivery starts to be used more defensively rather than offensively and Sonic Boom isn't used nearly enough to give Heartseeker the value and impact it could offer on another God.

Nonetheless, the item tree with Stone Cutting Sword, Masamune and Heartseeker is too good to pass up on Mercury because of the Movement Speed these items offer and how it intertwines with Fastest God Alive. I'd say Stone Cutting Sword would be your first option in this item tree and Masamune can be used situationally... Masamune will benefit you a lot in team fights (Arena/Clash/Conquest) for its Passive grants +5 Magical Protection and +5 Physical Protection for each enemy god within 55 units of you. Stacks up to 5 times.

Overall, you'd general look to build these items towards the end of your build (5th or 6th), but I wanted to stress the point that Heartseeker does not proc (consume its stacks) on Made You Look.

P.S. -- I know you said you weren't a Mercury expert and neither am I to be honest. I just though I should share my "findings" with you or whomever looks to mess around with Mercury.

Thanks Papa, yeah, keep forgetting about HS's unique proc...this is basically like using it with Loki (it only procs on his ult), and so absolutely isn't the best item for him. I'm going to write a comment on the HS page. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, in season 4. I've been thinking of mixing both Death's Toll & Bumba's Mask for a little bit of sustain in early games. Thanks for the feed back again.
