Hello everyone,
I noticed that some of the Odin builds from this current season seem to be very different than what I play, and I would like to include what I typically use when playing Odin. Bear with me as it is my first time creating a guide on here. It is a build that I have used since season 3, with not much changing since then, as the second item actually seems to have gotten better with this current season. This is a build I primarily use with joust, but I have had success with it as well in Arena and Clash due to its more tanky nature. Not so much luck with it in conquest or siege. However, my win ratio with Odin when playing Joust has hovered just below 70%, with my KDA averaging around 3.0.
So let me describe my reasoning behind these items.
Also, as a heads up, when the game starts I typically buy tier 2 of the boots and then tier 1 of the stone of gaia, to get a little additional health to start off.
1. Warrior's Tabi
This one is self-explanatory, as you obviously want as much power as you can get. The only time I would ever consider ninja tabi is if I was going to use transcendence, but I rarely ever do that.
2. Stone of Gaia
I don't see many people use this item with Odin, at least in my experience. I think it is a great item especially because of how Odin can be so deadly early on in the game. I cannot tell you how many times I have been able to just jump into somebody's tower and kill them (they are obviously below half health) and be able to casually walk out before I am even level 5. This item really gives you the advantage to try and get ahead of the other team early, which is where Odin can really give headaches.
3. Jotunn's Wrath
This item is crucial to get 3rd based on the fact that Odin is a mana ***** and with the first two items you're gonna be rather low (less than 500 mana). Not only does it provide you the mana you'll need, but you now begin the cooldown reduction that is huge later on in the game.
4. Hide of the Urchin
This item is your main source of tankiness. It builds protection on both sides, while also helping you out with your mana being pitifully low. If you are already levels ahead of the opposing team by the time you finish this item, you practically become a consistent catapult that pushes everyone back.
5. Hydra's Lament
This is where people would probably say I am crazy for adding this item to the mix. Why the hell would you want this item for a warrior, especially Odin? Well, there's one HUGE reason, and that is the passive to this item (and not to mention further cooldown). This passive is SO USEFUL when you jump in on somebody and ult them. Basically, you should use your 2, then 1, and then your ult. If you have done this all in quick succession, your basic attack can finish them with one blow, especially since Odin's final basic attack in the sequence deals more damage. This is how I typically finish people off in my circle. I have killed people just as much because of this item as I have just jumping on them with birdbomb.
6. Bloodforge
This final item is a newer addition, and it is still something I am not entirely set on, but I tend to go towards it at the end of most games. This is because in the end game, Odin definitely loses some of his damage output. Having some sustain to be able to stay longer after jumping has been very useful to me, and getting that bloodshield to maximize movement speed also adds on to Odin's passive of when any god is killed.
Relics:
Getting Meditation Cloak to start is practically required, as your mana will be nonexistent in the beginning and it is extremely useful to get just one last birdbomb in before retreating.
As far as the second relic goes, I have started to like the Shield of Thorns, especially in the late game when I know I will be taking a ton of damage from gods. Odin is tanky enough to stay alive, especially with the bloodforge, which has made this item very useful to me even though it deals back magical damage in stead of physical.
You can totally change up the relics to match your situation, but it may be very difficult to get quick kills in the early game without Meditation. I wouldn't know though because I don't think I have ever gotten anything else :)
While I absolutely love this build, there are definitely drawbacks as well.
Pros:
- High tankiness early game/middle game
- With a couple of quick kills early in game, can really take off on damage output
- Cooldown is extremely low, allowing you to jump more often and ult more often
- When played with characters that make use of your ult, you can easily gain stacks thanks to constantly being able to use your ult.
Cons:
- Mana is bone dry early on, so you must be careful when choosing to use abilities
- If you can't get a few kills in beginning, or a couple of stacks, it can be difficult until you get the hide of the urchin
- End game damage is still limited somewhat, but being able to use abilities more often helps alleviate that.
When it comes to the skills, I am kinda lazy in terms of leveling them in that I don't really pay attention to which one I level, however I know that I tend to focus my 1st and 2nd ability much more than the 3rd, while upping my ult whenever it is available (mostly). For the most part this is because I like maxing the birdbomb as soon as possible, because if you get those stacks early on those jumps can be devastating to practically anybody, especially squisher people such as Ah Puch or Arachne (side note: I don't advise jumping on characters such as Arachne unless you know you can kill her or at least scare her by doing so much damage that she has to run)
The nice thing about Odin is that his combo is pretty easy. All you have to do is use your 2, then 1, then either use your 4 (ult) or your 3, depending on if your ult is available. I honestly tend to save my 3 for if I need to slow down somebody who is running, or if I need to clear minions and I have just jumped or it is on cooldown. A lot of people tend to just constantly do 2, 1, then 3 after they land, but because of my Hydra's Lament I tend to get a basic attack in there first before I consider using the 3.
So, there is my build for Odin to the best of my knowledge. I hope that it can help some of you out there who like to use him but haven't quite found a build for him yet. Feel free to leave comments or whatever to let me know how it works for you, or if you wanna add to this I would be happy to add alternative options.
