Introduction

Hello viewers and welcome to my very first SmiteFire guide for my favorite God in my favorite game mode. I hope that I never appear to give the illusion that I am MLG, but the gods that I know, I know very well. For instance, I will never attempt to create an Anubis build without first spending time with the god and getting comfortable with his playstyle, but on the other hand I would currently be very apt to create an Artemis or Mercury build.

As this is my first guide it is sure to be riddeled with errors and quite bland as far as editing goes. I am currently just looking to help Loki players give their enemies reason to fear. I have looked at other god guides on SmiteFire before creating this one and they all have these neat bells and whistles such as skill images and god names with their picture beside them, and if anyone could assist me in making these I would be apt to listen, but for now, text walls will serve just fine. (If it looks good now, then congratulate me on figuring it out)

Note: here's a link to the guide that inspired me to make this. LuckyBomb was kind enough to assist me in the making of this guide http://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/loki-god-of-the-arena-tips-tricks-amp-videos-3930

Pros / Cons

Pros:

- Amiable carry
- Possibly highest burst damage in the game
- Very slippery
- Less reliance on teammates than other gods
- keeps minions at bay mid-late game
- A force to be reckoned with 1v1
- Mind games

Cons:

- Squishy
- Hard CC will kill you if you are caught alone
- No hard CC except ult
- Must rely on teammates to kill minions early game

Skills

Behind You!

Loki deals more damage from his basic attacks when hitting enemies from behind.

Ability: Buff
Affects: Self
Bonus Damage: 20%
Basic Attack Progression

The Way of The Master:

Simply put, you are wasting precious damsge if you are not hitting the enemy from behind. You should use either Vanish, Assassinate, or the old "walk behind 'em" technique to initiate from behind, then when they retreat you should stay close behind them for the hits in the back.

Vanish

Loki disappears in a puff of smoke. While invisible, he moves faster, is immune to slows and takes 25% less damage. His next basic attack from stealth (or for 2s after) applies a bleed to his target, dealing damage every .5s and reveals Loki.
Ability: Melee Target
Affects: Enemy/Self
Damage: Physical
Damage per Tick: 30/45/60/75/90(+25% of your physical power)
Damage Duration: 2s
Stealth Duration: 4s
Stealth Movement Speed: 35%
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90
Cooldown: 15s

The Way of The Master:

This is the skill that makes or breaks a great Loki player. Vanish is the best tool in Loki's kit, dealing massive damage over time and also giving him one of the best initiates/escapes in the game. This should be used with the situation in mind. If you use it to initiate, keep in mind the dot you get from it. If you use it to escape, remember to attempt to fake enemies out. if you start walking to the left, vanish, then begin walking right, your enemies will be chasing the wrong way, thus allowing you a sure escape.

decoy

Decoy

Loki spawns a decoy version of himself that taunts all nearby enemy minions. After a short time, the decoy explodes dealing damage to all enemies in the radius.
Ability: Ground Target
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Physical
Radius: 20 D
Damage: 90/155/220/285/350(+80% of your physical power)
Decoy Lifetime: 3s
Cost: 60/65/70/75/80
Cooldown: 14s

The Way of The Master:

This ability is mainly used to keep minions at bay, but once you get good with using it, it opens up into so much more. It can be used to hilariously body block an enemy while you catch up, it can block ranged attacks, it can even tank the tower while you go in to secure the kill. This is your best friend and most trusted teammate because he is always right where you need him to be.

aimed strike

Aimed Strike

Upon activation, Loki's next basic attack does additional damage with a short time. The enemy hit is also slowed.
Ability: Buff
Affects: Self
Damage: Physical
Damage: 60/100/140/180/220(+100% of your physical power)
Buff Lifetime: 5s
Slow: 25%
Slow Duration: 3s
Cost: 50
Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8s

The Way of The Master:

This is where Loki's true power is revealed. [[aimed strike is on of the most devastating abilities in the game. Not only does it do massive damage, but it also slows which allows you to finish off your weakened opponent. You should be using this multiple times in fights once you have the cdr from hydras lament helping you out.

Assassinate

Upon activation, Loki teleports to his ground target location. If an enemy god is within the radius, Loki will backstab that target doing damage and stunning them.
Ability: Ground Target
Affects: Enemy Gods
Damage: Physical
Damage: 150/225/300/375/450(+120% of your physical power)
Stun: 1s
Cost: 100
Cooldown: 90s

The Way of The Master:

This is Loki's assured kill. With this ability, you should be able to drain the enemy teams squishies before they have time to react. You can place your decoy on your target, activate aimed strike, ult in, hit aimed strike, and if they are still alive hit aimed strike again, and then vanish off before the enemy team can react. This is also a nice escape when the enemy is on your tail and Vanish is either on cooldown or useless in the situation.

Items

Jotunn's Wrath

I have seen many Loki players who buy Jotunn's in arena, but I am the first (to my knowledge) to propose starting with it. Get Jotunn's 1 before leaving the base and nothing else, the next time you enter the base you should be level 5 and be able to finish Jotunn's. Thus, you should be able to finish Jotunn's before the fighting between gods begins.

Warrior Tabi

Yes boots, I know that none of us are idiots here, we all realize the importance of boots. However I should point out that if you plan to tweak my build to get ninja instead of warrior then you would be screwing yourself, because you would be 20% over the max cdr., and the penetration from warrior is great for late game.

Hydra's Lament

I cannot stress the importance of Hydra's lament, this item may have been made for Loki. Every time you use an ability your next basic attack gains 175% attack power excluding items/buffs. Because most of Loki's abilities require him to land a basic to take effect, this can deal massive damage when combined with aimed strike or Assassinate.

Deathbringer

This is where the fun really starts. Deathbringer adds a nice 20% crit chance and +50 power, but the real power comes from the passive, which adds a nice 50% to critical strike damage.

Malice

Most builds that I have seen for Loki suggest Rage to Malice, and I admit that I used to be in the same camp until some friends explained it to me in terms of the Rage passive. They asked me which was better, "to crit in 3 to 4 hits, or to crit in 1 to 2 hits." I also realize that you will miss out on a bit of attack speed, but with this build you should kill most gods in just a few hits anyway so it shouldn't matter to much, besides, you get an extra +5 physical power anyway which, for Loki, is a good trade.

Titan's Bane

Once you get Titans bane you should be far enough into the game that you are able to singlehandedely kill anyone 1v1 with or without Assassinate. With this item, you will have a whopping 33% full penetration, added to the 26 flat pen that you previously had, thus eliminating most of the enemy tanks value aside from CC. This item may be overlooked if no one on the enemy team has built any defenses.

Actives

Combat Blink

This is your get out of jail free card. I would strongly recomend this if you want more survivalbility. On Loki, this item should only be used for escapes. You already have 2 initiates. Comabt blink should be used if you missed your ult and you're being targeted, or if your ult is down and your pursuers are about to land the killing blow.

Purification Beads

I would strongly recommend this active as it gets rid of the biggest danger Loki faces. Almost any hard CC will kill you, so of you can get out of it you will be much better off. (This item is especially recomended if the enemy team has an Ares)

Fist of the Gods

If your enemies have built up to many defenses, or if they are going to escape before you can finish them off, you can use fist to get the extra second to hit the killing blow.

Match-Ups

Good Matchups:

-Any Mage (beware escapes/protections i.e. aegis shield Valkyrie's Discretion)
-Most Hunters (Watch for those with escapes)
-Assassins if you have better phys power (you should with this build, once again beware those with quick escapes i.e. Loki, Mercury.)

Bad Matchups:

-Any tank, especially those with good hard CC such as Ymir or Ares
-you should be fine against warriors, but try to target those listed above if given the option.

GamePlay

While playing Loki, you should constantly be thinking of the risk/reward in every attack. If you are going in on an enemy, know roughly beforehand your chances of survival. You should know how many hits it will take to get them down, what escapes they have, is their ult up, where's their tank, what help you'll get from your team, and how you plan to escape. Loki has two initiates (three if you buy Combat Blink, but that's really more of an escape), his Vanish and his Assassinate. The optimal combo for get in, kill, and get out clean is:

-> aimed strike ->

You could also do:

-> aimed strike ->

The first ability is your initiate, the second is your damage and the third is your escape. That is your easy escape combo. If you are in 1v1, or you have your team behind you, you can do:

-> aimed strike ->

In this instance, you use vanish for extra bleeding damage, if you went to deep and need an escape, you still have Purification Beads and Combat Blink to fall back on. A simple easy damage combo is:

-> aimed strike

This is very easy to pull off. you merely Vanish, walk behind the enemy, hit them with Vanish and aimed strike, and walk back to your team. Also, throughout all of these, remember to be watching for minions and throwing down your decoy if your mage is doing something else. (tip: minions are worth more points than gods throughout the game).

Early Game:

Early game covers everything that you should get done before your first time returning to base after minions spawn. Buy Jotunn's 1 and nothing else, walk out to blue buff and wait for your team. place your decoy on blue, then let someone else hit it before you start swinging with basics (it will target them once the decoy explodes). walk to red and start auto attacking after you tank/warrior/anyone but you attacks, you get red. Go to speed and place your decoy down again (it should be off CD at this point). Go to the center, if an enemy is alone there, hit VAA (attack) to let your team know your intentions, and then jump them. If your enemies are smarter than the average bear, then they will have finish off speed as a group before going to the center. At this point you need to have patience, you're going to be waiting for a couple of minutes while you level up and get gold; all you should be doing for the moment is sitting back and grouping up minions with your decoy while your mage kills them off (decoy isn't strong enough yet to damage minions). Once you get enough gold to finish Jotunn's Wrath, return to base and you should emerge in a new day.

Mid Game

You are free to attack now, the main difference between mid game and late game is what you can kill. Mid game is all about keeping the enemy team in check while your team applies force. This means taking out those that are about to get away, going to your teammates side to scare off an over-aggressive enemy, sweeping behind enemies when they go to deep while your team engages them head-on, and possibly ulting to give your teammate that one second that he needs to get away (trust me, it happens). Remember, Loki excels in late game, but he is still a force to be reckoned with in mid game.

Late Game

At this point in the game, every mage should be wetting their pants at the sight of you. No one on the enemy team is safe, but you still must keep in mind, as Loki, you kill in seconds, and you die in seconds. This is where I go full out aggressive, rarely reserving Vanish for escapes unless I know that my enemy will die without it. At this point in the game, the only thing that you shouldn't attack at full health are tanks and warriors with high phys. defense (though the latter you should be able to deal with through penetration). You must still be wary of CC, but you should be able to kill anything that isn't listed above through the Assassinate to aimed strike to Vanish combo before they even get out of the one second stun.

Tips & Tricks:

1. When you go to Assassinate an enemy, activate aimed strike, wait about 2-3 seconds, use Assassinate, and once you hit aimed strike, it should be off CD and you can hit it again.

2. Remember that aimed strike has a very short cooldown, and thus can be used multiple times while attacking an enemy.

3. Show your moves: remember when you use Vanish, that enemies will most likely attack in the direction that you were going, thus, you can juke by going to one base entrance, using Vanish, and turning to the other entrance.

4.turn the tables: If an enemy is chasing you when they are at half or lower health, then chances are that you can kill them in 1-2 hits. simply: Vanish, Assassinate, or, once again, walk behind them. They should be surprised for 1/2 a second. You can capitalize in this time and take them out before they know what hit them.

What to look forward to:

-Improved match ups
-Overall improvements

Update #1
I finally found the time to get the gameplay section up, but expect to see continuous updates to it nonetheless. I hope to get to work expanding upon the match-ups section next and possibly make an jungling section. I hope that those of you who have been asking for a gameplay section are happy with this, and I hope that those who are seeing my guide for the first time find it useful.

Update #2
Alright guys, I went to check smite fire to see if any new comments have arrived, and, to my joy, I see my guide on the home page under the monthly top smite guides. I just wanted to thank you all who checked it out (and took the time to upvote =D) and tell you that I will soon be updating the guide and taking it out of its current W.I.P. status.

Final Notes

Thank you all very much for taking the time to read through my very first guide. I would be extremely grateful for your thoughts in the comments on how to improve this guide. I hope to improve this guide with your help, and I plan to start work on other guides with a few of my other favorite gods.

Something I think more people should note about Loki... Activate aim strike, wait, 2 seconds before the buff goes away, ulti in, aim strike AGAIN, vanish away. In this case, aim strike does way more damage then vanish.

I've noticed that, I believe I made mention of it in the way of the master for assassinate under skills. I'll get the gameplay up for it one day #lazyblaze

I understand that Vanish does more damage over time, but due to the cd on Vanish being around twice that of aimed strike (I don't know the exact difference off the top of my head), aimed strike can be more valuable as far as dps. Besides, I mainly use vanish for escapes. (I'm still working on the gameplay/play style section.)

First off, I think this is a great first try Kingblazz88 and I look forward to seeing the updates you plan to make to it :D

Second, I think Talenhiem (+rep) made an outstanding point in regards to Vanish Vs. Aimed Strike and it actually brought up a questions in my mind. Does Loki's passive Behind You! work on the bleed from Vanish? Having said that I think Talenhiem's comment applies more to my style of play "in and out / chipping away at enemies" then yours. After all if your style results in 2-4 shouts the bleeds will not even fully tick.
