Introduction

Hi guys and girls,
I'm CakeSlapping or CAKE SLAP, a casual player who's been enjoying Smite since the Xbox beta.
I've loved the thrill of PvP ever since the first time I played against my brother at Micro Machines on the PS1, and have since become competent at various PvP genres, however Smite is my first MOBA.

So, here is my build guide for playing Amaterasu in the jungle, which will hopefully help improve someone's game.
Hope you enjoy.

Updates coming soon...

I'm currently taking a short break from Smite, but I will be updating this guide to reflect the most recent patches when I come back to the game, in a few weeks time.

Who is Amaterasu?

Amaterasu is an exciting introduction to the Japanese pantheon. She has incredible mobility and great base damages and scalings. She is able to move swiftly around the battlefield, and dish out high amounts of damage, while using her passive and her 1 to support the team with power/speed buff auras, and an enemy debuff aura

Pros and Cons

Pros
-Incredible mobility
-high base damage and scaling on abilities
-supports team with several auras
-incredible chase potential
-very long period of CC imunnity with her ultimate
-able to self heal with Divine Presence
-so graceful she floats through the air, despite being a physical god

Cons
-relatively long cooldowns on abilities
-mana hungry
-poor CC options. 2 are part of her ultimate Dazzling Offensive (requires 2/3 chained hits on target), while the other is attached to her Glorious Charge dash
-likely to be nerfed

Abilities

Illuminating Strike

Illuminating Strike is a brilliant passive, which allows Amaterasu to stack debuff auras onto enemy gods. Every 3 basic attacks Amaterasu hits on a single enemy puts one stack of a 10% increased damage taken aura onto them, lasting for 5 seconds.

A shining light

Divine Presence
Divine Presence is a stance change ability which activates 4 seconds of self-healing upon activation, whilst switching between a speed buff aura or a power buff aura.

Fight or flight

Heavenly Reflection
Heavenly Reflection is Amaterasu's main damage dealing ability. Activating it will give you a shield, which mitigates damage, for 5 seconds before firing a damaging beam in a line in front of you after the 5 seconds is up.

Mirror, mirror...

Glorious Charge
Glorious Charge is Amaterasu's dash. It travels at about the same speed, and for the same distance as Agni's Path of Flames, but with a marginally longer (but still very short) startup. Unlike Agni's dash however, Glorious Charge stops when it hits an enemy God, dealing a decent amount of damage, and inflicting them with a 1 second silence.

Flash and Dash

Dazzling Offensive
Dazzling Offensive is a powerful 3 hit ultimate in which Amatetasu slashes 3 times in a broad cone in front of her, with each consecutive hit dealing higher damage and applying an extra level of CC. She also gains an increased level of mobility as she lunges with each slash, allowing to dance around your opponents as you attack them.

Cut them down to size

Item Build

Starter items

You want to pick starting items to give you the best opportunity to not fall behind early game. There are two starts I pick between, and it's important I pick an appropriate start to ensure I don't fall behind early game.

The sun rises

1st Item-Boots
Building boots first will give you the mobility you want to move around the battlefield, as well as a good little chunk of early power to boost your damage output.

Getting up to speed

2nd Item-Cooldowns/power
Next you want to build cooldown reduction which you will be needing, as your cooldowns are generally quite long without any.
Alternatively if you're confident you could build stacking power now, and buy more cooldown items later on, however this is a much riskier option which could see you end up falling behind due to your main sources of damage being less readily available.

Heating up, Cooling down

3rd Item-Defense with benefits ;)
You will not really be getting your 3rd item for the Defense (although that will help your survivability) but for the incredible passive, and to top up your cooldown reduction.

Passive aggression

4th Item-Attack speed
Buying attack speed now will help you stack your passive faster, to get those 10% damage bonus auras up. Much like your 3rd item, though, you want to pick your attack speed item based on the other benefits they give.

Striking swiftly

5th Item-Mixed Defense
As teamfights become prevalent at this late point in the game you will need some protections to help you stay in the fight longer, and support your team with your buffs.

Protect yourself

Final Item-Damage
At this point in the game you should have every thing you need to fight your opponents effectively. This final item will give you one last boost to your damage levels, meaning enemies should be more cautious when you're around.

A sharpened blade

Active items
As you won't be building a lot of protections as a jungler you will want actives that help with your survivability. It is up to you when to buy them, but you generally want to have them before you actually need to use them.

Covering your shortfalls

In conclusion...

Amaterasu can be a great jungler, with her immense speed and combat capability, able to relentlessly hound lone opponents, while holding her own in any teamfights.

Good to know the build worked for you.

I've never tested it in arena myself, as its intended as a conquest (and possibly joust) build, so I wasn't sure if the items would be optimal for arena. But I'm glad to know they worked for you!

If you wants to experiment, you could probably afford to swap shield of regrowth for something else when playing arena, if you feel you need 2806010 item more, as the movement speed passive isn't as important in arena, as in conquest.

Also, the written information on the items section of the guide is outdated to my old build order, as I'm still in the process of updating it, so some of the information doesn't reflect the builds at the start of the guide. Sorry, I'll have it updated soon.

Hey Spectral, thanks for the feedback.

i definitely think that a lifesteal item could work for the build, but you'll have to mess with the item order a little.

If you're building lifesteal I would swap it for the 6th item slot ( Qin's Sais in my recommended build), but I would want to build it much earlier than my 6th item.

Ideally you'd want it 3rd or 4th, depending on whether you feel you can put off getting the Frostbound Hammer for its brilliant passive. And then you'd have to decide which to buy first; penetration or protections, for your 5th and 6th items depending on what you need.

As for what lifesteal item to get, I generally much prefer Asi to Soul Eater, for the massive boost to lifesteal with its passive and the extra bit of penetration it gives, however, like you said, the extra movement speed from Soul Eater works great for Amaterasu, and as she has a somewhat decent health pool she gets an okay amount of health returns from its passive.

That's my take on things, hope it helps, but I think you should play around with all options to find what works best for you.

I recently picked up Amaterasu and I've been having some trouble coming up with a build for her, but this looks like it should work great! I really like the layout of the guide and how you talk about all of the options too.

I was just wondering what your thoughts about Soul Eater would be. I don't think it would fit as a core item but the massive attack speed increase and lifesteal seems like it might be beneficial. At full stacks, it also provides another boost to movement speed. Don't know how viable it would be, but I'd be interested to know what you think.

Thanks for a great guide!

I personally have had a lot of success building Hide of the Urchin 5th on junglers like Awilix and Hun Batz, and I imagine it will work just as well on Amaterasu, so I wouldn't say it's too late to build 5th.

Because it stacks on kills AND assists youre usually able to get a decent amount of stacks on it relatively fast.

Even so it's still perfectly viable to build Hide of the Urchin earlier if you want, you just need to be aware that it will take a little longer for your damage to come online as a result. You just need to make a judgement call on what you need first.
I don't mention this in the guide but I do switch up the order a bit if I feel I really need a particular item sooner, so maybe I'll add in a little situational item ordering section to explain this.

Cheers for the feedback as well!

I think Hide of the Urchin might be too late 5th item. Just a thought, I haven't actually tested this. Big fan of Shield of Regrowth btw.

The guide has been updated to include some untested build orders that I have thought about after Diomedes232's suggestion. I will be updating them into the main build of the guide after I can manage to get them tested...

That extra 5% would only equate to maybe an extra 1 second off cooldown, if that, on any of her abilities (apart from the ult, you'd get about 4 seconds, I think).

Worthy trade-off in my opinion, if you want Regrowth's passive.

id pick it up more often if it actually gave 15% cooldown.
