First of all, The boots are mandatory, you need the mana and cooldown on kukulkan, his passive damage scales with mana, same explanation for book of thoth, you double stack his passive using this item, max stacks = amazing damage. Soul reaver and mantle can be alternated in location. Soul reaver gives a large damage boost early game and helps you get over the mid-game hump where kukul tends to lack damage, Mantle gives you a massive amount of survivability, this is to help stop mages and physical spammers alike and replaces what I used to use, which was Breastplate of Valor. Breastplate WAS very good, but it let kukul spam-die to any other mage, which is bad. mantle gives fairly good cooldown, an amazing passive that stuns enemies allowing you to spam them with whirlwind, and i love it. After that, gem of isolation is very good on kukulkan, in addition to the slow from his 1, whirlwind CAN NOW SLOW, his best move is whirlwind, hands down, it is his farming engine and allows him to hit and run constantly, it offers a protective area if you place it on top of him, etc. This item is just strong on him. Lastly, rod of tahuti deserves no explanation, you either rush it, or build it last on EVERY mage, the damage boost is ridiculously and by late-game kukulkan just wrecks everything in his path. (All build paths take meditation first, but relics are entirely preference based, it is out of place because i forgot to put it in first, instead adding it last, secondly i use either shell or sunder, defensive or offensive :D)
The second build path replaces Soul Reaver in order to give him some anti-tank penetration instead of a burst shot. The third build path does this, but also replaces mantle with breastplate because the penetration item selected there will give magical resistance.
