Introduction

<Check out my Vamana Guide here>

Hello everyone! My name is Ragingstorm, and I've been playing Smite for the six past months or so. Before we start this guide, I'd like to say this guide does not have to be always followed, there will be times when the player wishes to change the order in which they get everything. This guide is simply to aid the player on how to play the goddess of wrath and time, Kali! With bloodshed in her heart, this goddess brings damage to the battle like no other. Many gods fear a strike of a single ability, and the goddess power to become immune to Crowd Controls like no other.

enrageKali RageBlood LashSiphon Blood Siphon BloodBlood LashKali Rageenrage

Pros / Cons

Pros

+ Good Chasing Potential
+ High substain
+ Enourmous Single Target Damage
+ Good Escape Potential
+ Best Crowd Control immunity with Frenzy

Cons

- Semi-squishy
- Requires Good Timing
- No leaping mechanism
- Using Kali Rage at the wrong times
Kali's potential is very high. Not as many players use her because most players think other physical carrys are much better. In truth, the decent player can accel with Kali being a god that can easily take out a third of the opponents health roughly every ten seconds. No gods can match her insta-cast Blood Lash. She also has an amazing chaser as well as escape with Kali Rage allowing her speed and true damage to activate. Such power with the added heal of Siphon Blood and Crowd Control immunity with Frenzy makes her one of the most feared yet underplayed gods of smite. The goddess has the highest sustain out of every physical carry.

Skills

Passive

enrage
Kali starts with 5% lifesteal. When kali falls below 25% health, she gains an additional 25% lifesteal for 5 seconds. Can only occur once a minute.
This passive is what makes Kali so deadly, and so easy to gain health back in a flash. With the addition of Soul Eater this passive gives her 35% lifesteal at below 25% health. It can make Kali a great comeback against other AD opponents when she's losing a fight. A few hits against an enemy, and then Siphon Blood on at least two or three enemies pops Kali back to full health allowing aggresive substainment.
Kali Rage
Kali Fuels herself with her rage, increasing her physical power by 15 / 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 and allowing her to move 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35% faster for 6 seconds.Cost: 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 mana. Cooldown: 15 s.
This self buff ability is amazing, it could be used in many situations such as escaping, adding true damage, or chasing. It's similar to Bakasura's Butcher Blades and it allows more damage to hit. There is two options, either a Kali uses this just as an escape mechanism and max it last, or they use it as a true damage ability and max it first. For me, when to max this ability fully depends on the situation.
Blood Lash
Kali strikes out at all enemies in a cone in front of her, doing 85 / 155 / 225 / 295 / 365 (+150% of your physical power) physical damage. Cost: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 mana. Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 s.
This ability is a Kali's best friend. It is the most powerful insta-cast in the game. Capable of doing huge damage in a radius every 15 seconds. Because it is an insta-cast, a player can avoid being damaged by minions at early game as minions deal more damage to the player. For even more damage, activate Kali Rage then use this ability to maximize the potential. Be careful on your mana though, as it can cost alot of mana during early game. Also, stay cautious knowing when to use Kali's Rage with Blood Lash at the same time can mean all the difference between getting ganked with no escape mechanisms and securing a kill.
Siphon Blood
Kali saps enemies of their blood, causing 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 (+30% of your physical power) physical damage to all enemies in the area while healing herself for 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 (+20% of your physical power) for each enemy hit, up to 3. Cost: 65 mana. Cooldown: 12 s.
Siphon Blood is one of the main providers to heal a low health Kali back to full health in seconds. A few hits on the melee minions to not waste the powerful ability of Soul Eater and Enrage then using Siphon Blood on the archery minions easily fills Kali back to full health. This potential Kali has gives her much better substain compared to many other ADs in her playing field. With the added new bleed effect Kali can heal even more damage with the addition of absorbing the enemy's bleed effect. This makes Kali more substainable than any other physical carries.

Kali spins around feverishly attacking all enemies around her for 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 / 140. (+20% of your physical power) physical damage every .5s for 5s, ignoring all movement controlling abilities on herself. Cost: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 mana. Cooldown: 90 / 85 / 80 / 75 / 70 s.
Among all the Crowd Control reductions in the game, no one comes close to matching Kali's ability to move while having immunity to all Crowd Controls and allowing damage in a wide radius. I find this ability to be quite powerful in three simple things. Running away from the enemy, Chasing an enemy while inflicting continous damage to him, and Tower dives. Running away from the enemy simply means if the enemy has many Crowd Control abilities then break into Kali Rage then Frenzy. Chasing an enemy is simple, an easy kill can occur at level five against the enemies' carry, gank from the forest activating Kali Rage then Blood Lash, afterwards about half health that they have, activate Frenzy to easily get the kill. Only a few gods can avoid this deadly easy kill tactic of Kali.

Items

During the items section I will not only explain what each item is good for, but when to get them. Be sure to pay close attention, and to the situation of the game!
Unless the player is risky, and know they can't die with Kali, I recommend to get this, and get it to tier three as soon as possible. There is an exception with Devourer's Gloves that possibly might be needed to be maxed after the player gets tier 1 or 2 of this item.

The Heartseeker is a double edge sword in Smite's world of all ADs. Getting this item first could lead to two possibilities, either get rewarded by reaching tier three, and farming stacks without dying and recieving a huge benefit. Or you get killed after this item reaches tier 3, then you will lose all stacks and potentially ruin the entire game of Kali. Choose this if you definitely know you're going to be fed.

This tool is a must-want for all AD physical units. With this item, Kali can kill gods easier with her autoattacks as well as adding additional pentetration.

Devourer's Gloves Only consider this when feeling for a safer play which should occur about 80% of the time, another thing is knowing when to use Blood Lash for minions and when to use it on opponents, in the long run, this item will be doing you a favor by permantly stacking depending on the minions you have cleared easily with the use of Blood Lash. Remember to strike with Blood Lash on the side allowing all minions to be hit.

Physical Penetration, get this when you feel like your opponents can't feel enough damage.

Soul eater is one of the best items a Kali could utilize. Usually, I don't use this on other carrys. But with the addition of Kali's Enrage she can life leach roughly 35%. A small burst of her Blood Lash at the opponent, along with using Siphon Blood on a couple of minions and she's already healed fully once again. This heal and damage makes her much more deadly than most gods.

Late game, building critical allows for even more damage output, these hits allow the enemy to die in just a few autoattacks.

By this time, with the deathbringer you will always be constantly dealing critical damage, the substained true damage of Kali Rage allow for most of the damage to hit the enemy. This extra damage provided gives her much more damage than most gods. By now, the player can avoid using Frenzy and chase after the enemy damaging him even while moving with Blood Lash and Kali Rage. For a backup plan when Kali is on low health she can lifeleech, or finish the opponent off while moving after an enemy with Frenzy.

The fact that Kali has no natural way to slow an opponent makes her a bit dull, feel free to take this just in case Kali Rage doesn't do its job. The slow on this is critcal in securing kills with autoattacks.

This sounds silly, but if you still feel Kali doesn't do enough damage in time, then hit this item up. In the old days of Smite, many people use Qin's Blade because at the time, Rage still wasn't created yet. This item gives Kali even more attack speed allowing her to hit harder, and works well in situations against another Physical Carry opponent. With Lifeleech a player can easily regenerate there health whenever they fall below 25% of their health by hitting the enemy faster than the speed that they can hurt you.

Remember to know when to use what items at what specific time. This further makes Kali a viable player. Penetrating the opponent with her sweet damage, as well as Lifeleeching whenever Kali runs low on health. Whenever she falls below 25% health, do not run away if the opponent is low on health as well. Remember to land your hits healing yourself, as well as using Siphon Blood on minions. Kali is like having two health bars at the same time.

Abilities

Sprint
This item is another form of escape during times of trouble, because Kali has no leap mechanism, use this when Kali Rage is down, also this item stacks with Kali Rage allowing a faster form of travel for escaping or chasing. Use this ability only for escaping but a player does not have to purchase this.

An ability that helps Kali secure kills, ask yourself the question of, "Does it seem as if whenever I try to kill someone, they manage to get away with just a couple of hits left?" Other than that, a player does not have to buy this item.

Invinciblity for a while, this item helps the player when trapped in Ultimates like Ring of Spears or near instant Ultimates such as Searing Pain or Loki's jukes. I suggest using this at a distance as enemies may just stay around and wait for your aegis to expire so do not activate this at low health, instead use Kali Rage and Sprint to run.

Get this just in case Frenzy is on cooldown, and sadly an Anubis or Ares have you in their Ultimate or Mummify.

Jungle

Jungling is definetly viable for Kali, feel free to start in the left lane or if you're up for a challenge try mid. During early game, go for the mana buff unless you have another competitor carry in that lane.

If Kali is unable to go left, then go right for the speed buff. Either way, is a good way to start, unless you're mid. If the player is mid, then they will go for the mana buff.

Once again, continue this pattern of constantly going for mana. During laning phase, it is very important for her to get mana so she can also constantly heal herself with Siphon Blood. Also, if you feel a little at a disadvantage heading back to the lane, take the XP buff, then proceed to the battlefield.

Continue this process using Blood Lash, a few hits of Kali Rage, then Siphon Blood to heal yourself back to a decent amount of health again.

God Matchups

This is the masterpeice section for my guide. It is composed of all the gods that Kali will ever face. Just remember these simple tips, and hopefully you'll understand all the gods you'll have to face.

Path of Flame
Agni, the Hindu God of Fire and Swag
"Time to Burn!"

+If he decides to do his signature combo, and decides to dash towards you, take advantage of this timing only if you are sure you can kill him. First, break into Frenzy or activate Purification Beads then finish him off with Kali Rage then Blood Lash. Just be careful with whoever their laning partner happens to be.

-When facing this god be careful of his deadly stuns after Noxious Fumes, play fastball with this god. If he uses his Path of Flame then be careful, only chase after him with Kali Rage if your Blood Lash can quickly finish him off.

Anhur, the Slayer of Enemies and Kitties
"Behold my Fury!"

+Kali can easily dodge around with this god, and play around with him as if he was just a kitten. Easy win, unless he's one of the good Anhurs. Good players that are good at their Impale can easily wreck Kali.

-Be careful of this god's Shifting Sands, just avoid trying to get stuck on the obelisk, if he does happen to hit you on the obelisk, you'll be
pretty much screwed. Unless you can lifeleech minions, and getaway.

Anubis, The Egyptian God of the Dead and Fast Kills
"Let the Eternal Darkness embrace you!"

+The good thing is Kali can kill this god easily, with a short Kali Rage and Blood Lash combo canceling into Frenzy to easily finish this god. It is best to be the one ganking Anubis as he will be caught off guard to the player's fast damage and notice his health depleting so quickly. Once the combo is applied, a few autohits will be applied until the enemy realizes he is getting ganked, as soon as he turns, break into Frenzy attempting to kill him at all costs.

-Now here's the bad part, if the opponent ganks you and manages to hit his wrap, you're as good as dead. The only way to survive is if a player has fast reflexes. Quickly react as ssoon as you get out of his wrap, or get Purification Beads. Using Kali Rage or Sprint, the player is allowed to escape with low health. During this time, use Siphon Blood and because Kali's health will be in the 25% range, her passive activates granting her a quick recovery to turn the tables around. Remember, try to sap at least three enemies so it heals Kali right back up.

Loving Embrace Loving Embrace
Aphrodite, The Goddess of Love and Substain
"For Love!"

+Oh here it comes, this goddess. She's pretty much an easy getter. Just unleash your combos, but watch out for her lane partner's stuns. Those are always your worst enemy. Make sure early on, that the archer minions won't kill the player. Play right, and you can easily feed off of her.

-If she happens to use her Kiss ability successfully then Kali's pretty much done for if her partner can combo off of that easily. However, if her partner manages to lower your health but not kill you successfully, use Siphon Blood and leech health from the minions.

Video for Kali's Fury

This player shows the wrath of Kali at her best. Remember during teamfights, you're the one being the janitor, coming in at the blink of an eye, usually entering last. Causing mayhem dealing huge critical damage often with the help of Rage and Deathbringer. Also, this player used a much more risky build with Heartseeker, feel free to use Devourers Gloves if you fear you might die.

Nowadays, Smite's gold decrease means Kali usually won't get this type of damage until the 40 minute mark. But remember, be the janitor and get a pentakill.

This is a great guide, but it would be even greater if it had a section dedicated to general play style.

Maybe spam your 2, and stay back. Until level 5, if there's someone squishy go b, then 1>2>5 do it with autoattacks in between and make sure they die. But do it when there's only archer minions in the lane left.

ok so mainly just a preference thing then, gonna go try this now, i normalyl do well with kali but i dont usually build heartseeker cause im not wild about losing charges but i suppose if your not dying its worth it xD

Ragingstorm (49) | April 22, 2013 10:26am
Cause well, in my style of gameplay, by the time I get my third item I'm practically ganking 24/7 and don't have time to stack but if you're one of those guys then go for it.

Kaden (7) | April 22, 2013 10:02am
hey Ragingstorm, on the second build, why not dev gloves over soul eater? is it really worth the extra 10% attk speed vs the the more lifesteal and power on dev? (im slightly biased because i hate soul eater) =P
1
Ragingstorm (49) | March 31, 2013 11:30am
It is basically adding damage on, thus, it could be classified as a type of true damage. Added with other penetration items, instead of 95 damage on a tank with regular attacks, it can scale to 125 damage.
