Introduction

Ratatoskr is one of the most fun gods I've played to date. I managed to get him to Mastery X while almost exclusively playing Joust, and I thought I may as well make my first guide about my build in such a scenario.

Pros / Cons

Pros:

Mobile
High Burst Potential
Dart and Flurry of Acorns allows for Hit and Run
Very fun to play
Ult is a great chasing tool

Cons:

Squishy
Not very effective against tanks
CC will destroy him
Hard to catch up if you fall behind
Ult is your best escape

Skills

Acorn of Yggdrasil

Gives Ratatoskr his signature acorn, which can be upgraded from anywhere. If you get a chance where you are safe in your tower, upgrade your acorn without recalling so you can stay in lane longer.

Dart

Hit any targets in a line in front of you. If you hit a god that has not been hit in the last 10 seconds, the cooldown is reset. Use this as an initiate, preceded by Flurry of Acorns for maximum damage, but save the second casting for an emergency escape. Using this to get behind enemy lines in order to provoke their skills before you dart back to your team can be a great tactic as long as you can survive.

Flurry of Acorns

Summons a ring of acorns, which then return to where Ratatoskr is currently located. A huge source of damage if you can get a clear shot. Use this and then Dart through an enemy to maximize the damage, since almost all the acorns will hit the target on the way back.

Acorn Blast

Fires 4 acorns in a cone. With Sapphire Acorn, they will stick and detonate. With Emerald Acorn, you will heal for however many acorns hit. Much like a shotgun, the closer the target, the more damage. This can also be used as wave clear if absolutely needed, but the acorns will only stick to gods.

Through the Cosmos

Ratatoskr jumps into the air and can land after two more jumps. This can be used both as a chase, and an escape. If being used to chase, make sure you have your other abilities ready in case you miss of the target otherwise survives the blast, and save your Dart as an escape. As an escape, use it a little before you think you should, due to the long start-up. Ratatoskr is immune to CC while casting, so this can be used to escape Hades' ultimate or cancelling Fenrir's.

Combo

For maximum damage in one go, start up by using Flurry of Acorns. As soon as you can, Dart through the target to get the acorns to follow you. Once you are behind the target, use Acorn Blast to hit with all 4 acorns. Follow up by either Darting back to safety, or claw at them with basic attacks until death. This combo will do lots of damage, but use it wisely. Dart's cooldown is fairly long, and missing it can result in complete failure and possible death.

Items

Core:

Sapphire Acorn

Makes Acorn Blast stick to targets and detonate later, as well as adding penetration. This will be your main source of damage most of the time. If more sustain is needed, switch out for Emerald Acorn instead.

Warrior Tabi

More movement speed is always nice, and the penetration will help secure kills more easily. Can be replaced with Ninja Tabi if you want more attack speed.

Jotuun's Wrath

Cooldown reduction and more penetration. Not much more to say about it honestly.

Bloodforge

The source of most of your sustain. Using Dart to get in and then clawing away at them with basic attacks will regenerate your health and allow you to stay longer. Ratatoskr's AOE basic attack on a minion wave will also work wonders for your lifesteal.

Damage:

Rage

More crits on your basic attacks not only means more damage to the victim, but more healing from Bloodforge. This will allow you to use your basic attacks to melt your opponents as soon as you get in.

Hastened Fatalis

Allows you to stick to gods more easily without the movement penalty. Great for chasing down a weary mage or rival assassin.

Qinn's Sais

Basic attacks now take away at least 4% of the targets maximum health. This will allow you to help take down those pesky tanks and warriors.

Titan's Bane

All attacks now gain 33% penetration. How could you go wrong? This will also make tanks less of an issue, but mostly saved for late game.

Defence:

Breastplate of Valor

The 75 physical protection is nice, and so is the 25% cooldown reduction. The protection will help you survive more attacks, and the cooldown will get your Dart or Through The Cosmos available to get out of there sooner.

Winged Blade

Getting hit by a slow and instead gaining a speed buff to get away is very helpful. Since CC can kill Ratatoskr very quickly, this gives you a better chance to escape.

Magi's Blessing

Similar to Winged Blade, but you instead absorb a hard CC. Again, useful for getting out in a pinch.

Mail of Renewal

Every kill and assist will regenerate more of your health and mana. While this isn't useful if your team isn't getting kills, you can use this to stay in lane longer.

Conclusion

I hope this guide has helped with playing Ratatoskr in Joust. He is a very fun god to play, and can be devastating if used correctly. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
