Hel's guide to shine!

Oh great and powerful Hel your power of healing and damage are superb,
but she she requires a skillful user to play with. Hel is a great supportive and offensive mage due to her debuff/buff and amazing sustain with her Repulse / Inspire and Decay / Restoration. She was the first stance changer in game and the only female stance changer (so far). She can be the most fun good you ever play and the most frustrating god you ever played. She doesn't have a escape so positioning is one thing you have to be careful of. Her early game isn't that bad but not great ether (in my experience ) , but her mid to late game is incredible. I don't like making giant paragraphs and I am still new to making guides. I would appreciate any and all "constructive" criticism, so lets begin the guide!

Pros / Cons

Excellent AoE heals.
Excellent sustain and burst.
Ability to prevent and/or remove crowd controls.
Expansion

High Skill Floor.
No leap or dashes.
No true ultimate.
No hard crowd control.
Close to mid range to land your skills.
Expansion

Item Choices

Core Items

Shoes of Focus: Your basic mandatory boots of choice, giving you your basic +18% Movement Speed, +250 mana and +50 Magical Power and the passive gives you a +15% CD reduction.

Chronos' Pendant: gives you +75 Magical Power and +25 MP5 while giving you a 25% CD reduction from it's passive. You may get this if their are no hard-hitting Physical gods and you require raw power.

Breastplate of Valor: it gives you +75 Physical Protection and +300 Mana while giving you a 25% CD reduction from it's passive. Get this if their are hard hitting Physical Gods such as Anhur or Artemis and if you need mana as you will due to your skill's short CD .

Offensive Items

Rod of Tahuti: Another mandatory item I get due to it's incredible +125 Magical Power, +15 MP5 and it's signature passive +25% Magical Power increase.

Rod of Asclepius: A wonderful item that is also a mandatory item i get, the reason being is because it goes well with Light Stance Repulse and Decay / Restoration's healing by increasing it's heal by 25% which is amazing ( minimum heal from a full ranked repulse would be 264 Health and for Decay's minimum would be increased to 184! )and that it gives you +10% Movement speed , +75 Magical Power and +200 Health .

Obsidian Shard:is a good choice for a team full gods with heavy defense *cough Geb, Ymir* by giving you +70 Magical Power and it's passive +33 penetration on all of you skills.

Soul Reaver: this item gives a good hurting to gods with high health with it's passive +15% more damage when gods take damage from your abilities. With a added bonus of giving you +100 Magical Power and +300 Mana. You can get it if there are any high health gods or tanks

Defensive Items

Hide of the Urchin: Probably the best rounded defensive item so far, giving you +45 Magical and Physical Protection and +250 Health and Mana and each stack gives you +2 Magical and Physical Protection. At full stacks it gives you +20 Magical and Physical Protection.( +65 total Magical/ Physical Protection and +250 Health/ Mana). It's good if there are high magical damaging gods ( Ao Kuang, He Bo)and physical damaging gods ( Anhur, Artemis) in the same team or if you are getting targeted alot.

Gem of Isolation:is a good choice because of it's passive which slows enemies by 25% and gives you +70 Magical Power with +250 Health and mana . It's great for if you need some health and mana while getting Magical power or if you need the slow so you can land you skills more often

Void Stone: I couldn't decide if it should be placed on Magical power or here due to it's +40 Magical Power , +50 Magical Protection and it's passive that reduces enemy's Magical protection by 25 . Although i buy it in case there is any pesky Mages that cause me trouble.

Ethereal Staff: a good item giving you +30 Magical Power, +600 health and +300 mana . It's passive converts 3% of your health into Magical Power which is good if you don't need any defense and just need to sustain. Paired with the warlock's sash you will get lots of power and health

Magi's blessing Magi's blessing: Great item if you don't wanna spend money on beads or if there are too many Hard CC gods against you, (Low protection giving you +15 Magical/ Physical Protection , Good health and CCR).

Situational Item

Warlock's sash Warlock's sash: A good item to get if you want health and mana. it's basic stats are good itself, +50 Magical Power, +300 Health and +400 Mana. And for each stack you get +3 Health and +0.6 Magical Power , at full stacks you get +300 Health and +60 Magical Power . All adds up to +110 Magical Power, +600 health and +300 mana .

Book of Thoth: This item gives gives you alot magical power, some mana and MP5 ( +100 Magical Power, +15 MP5 and +125 Mana ). Each stack gives you +10 mana, at full it gives you +750 Mana . Added with it's base stats will give you + 100 Magical Power, +875 Mana and +15 MP5. ALSO it's passive converts +3% of your Mana into Magical Power giving you a total of +126 Magical Power with just Item Stats.

Bancroft's Talon: A good item to get if you want power and some life steal, it gives +100 Magical Power, +12% Life Steal and the passive gives you power the more health you are missing. Great 2nd-3rd item to get if you need more power and some more sustain

Shoes of the Magi: For the Hels who needs to destroy tanks. +50 Magical Power, +250 Mana and +18 Movement speed. The Shoes work well with a high damage, high penetration Mage. Works will against gods with heavy Magical defenses on the other team.

Skills and Combos

This passive gives Hel 20% additional healing in Light stance and gives her 20% additional damage to her abilities in Dark stance. This makes her have great burst with Decay and Repulse and great healing from them.

Hel's High damage/high burst skill, usually this skill is you second priority as it gives you gooddamage , heals you , and it has a short cool-down if you max out your CDR. It is your main poke/mid-ranged skill.

This skill gives Hel one of the best CC removal in the game, you can cc immune/remove your entire team from Ares's No Escape or Hades's Pillar of Agony. Not only that, in Dark stance Hinder reduces the enemy's protection and movement speed.

This is Hel's nuke, this skill should be your first priority in any or all of your builds. The best Healing skill in game due to it's AoE, it's speed buff and it's low cool-down. Your Stance Attunement increases your healing, paired with Rod of Asclepius and when you are using Heavenly Agility the heal is over 50% stronger! The heal also effects the Minions, giving you a better push and keeping them alive at the tower.

Hel's signature skill, allowing you to switch from being a hard hitting, squishy destroying, lane clearing, cookie hating Dark stance to the lovable, heal heavy Light stance. She gains Magical Power in Dark stance, giving her even more burst power, and gains MP5 in Light stance, keeping her sustained and in lanes alot longer

Skill Combos

The Many Roles of Hel

Supportive Hel

Hel is a amazing Support Goddesses , utilizing her Repulse to help keep your team or partner alive, her CC cleansing skill Hinder / Cleanse , and her passive Stance Attunement to stay in-lane longer.

Hel's Hinder / Cleanse can save her team-mate's from being trapped or crippled by HARD CC. For example, if you are in duo lane with a ADC like Ah Muzen Cab or Artemis and they get rooted by Neith's Spirit Arrow they can't escape, but if you use Hinder / Cleanse on them while they are rooted, the rooting will stop and your ADC will be free.

In a Team-fight your role is to keep everyone ALIVE as they fight against the other team. Also to assist in some kills (But without killing yourself in the process ofc). When the opposing team have alot of god/goddesses who have AoE skills and ults like Ao Kuang, Ares or another Hel, the best ways to help your teammates is:

(1. Supporting with heals and Buffs)
Hit your team-mates with Repulse first so they get the extra movement speed while they initiate in combat. After while they are fighting use it again when you can to heal them and to keep the speed buff up. If you see anyone getting slowed/stunned/rooted etc, use Hinder / Cleanse to help them get out.

(2. Supporting in damage and kill assists)
To first debuff them with Hinder / Cleanse to slow them down and to decrease their magical protection for your magical gods/goddesses to deal more damage in to your enemies. Secondly if you see a group of gods/goddesses in a group or together, don't hesitate to use Decay / Restoration or Repulse on them, right after you use Hinder / Cleanse on them to increase damage.

Warning

In the Duo-lane your role is to help assist your partner in clearing lanes and achieving kills. Try and keep him healed up from any damage by saving your Repulse to heal and Hinder / Cleanse , to get your partner out of any HARD CC. If your partner wants to engage and wants to get a kill, assist him by putting Hinder / Cleanse on his/her target. When your partner is dealing damage with skills or auto-attacks use Decay / Restoration and follow up with Repulse to deal substantial damage ( Make sure you don't kill the target or your partner won't get the gold, remember you're a support, you don't need to kill unless it's for self defense), keep looking at the mini-map in case of any Junglers are coming to gank you and your partner and warn them as soon as they are coming, DO NOT LEAVE THEM BEHIND NO MATTER WHAT.

Offensive Hel (High Powered Killing machine)

Hel is ALSO a amazing Mage that isn't afraid of someone else like Ao Kuang Because she can easily harass him with her Decay / Restoration and can easily clear lanes with her Repulse. Her skills are mostly AoE so you don't have to worry about using them a bunch if times to clear one way and their cool-down are really low, almost comparable to Chang'e's cool down, of course with the right CDR items.

She is a amazing Mage when it comes to 1v1s, Solo-Laning, and Team-fights. Almost anything she can be, she can Tank damage and Heal Herself, she can be a Glass cannon with Amazing Healing, or she can be the best laner in her team.

In a Team-fight your role is to deal as much damage as you can and to help assist your team-mates as much as you can. The best ways you can assist and kill in a team fight is to target 1 or 2 Gods at a time. Since most of your skills are AoE skills, they can easily cause casualties if you can land a couple of them onto one area or God. If there are gods that are trying to run away, use your Hinder / Cleanse to slow them down so you can catch up to them and use Decay / Restoration / Repulse to make them pay for fleeing a fight. Also remember to heal anyone that is in need to be healed, even though you are securing kills, make sure the enemies don't kill your team-mates.

In a Chasing keep your eye out for any God outlines on walls, be sure you are not being ganked or lure in to a trap. Even if Hel has a skill with CC immunity she can still suffer alot of damage. If your target is alone and you checked to see if you are not being followed, you may now start to tear into the target and get a kill.

The combo you should be using is this one

Classic combo

If you are Solo-laning it's pretty straight foreword, clear with ether Repulse or Decay / Restoration. Stay in-lane more with your Stance Attunement and get out of trouble/CC with Hinder / Cleanse . The one thing you may need to do is to watch your mini map and keep a minimal of poking, you don't have much of health early game and you sure as Hel (see what i did there? Yes, No? Okay...) don't have alot of defense. Always stay moving because you are pretty slow with out the buff of Repulse so be careful of ULTs like Release The Kraken! or Waxing Moon

Early/Mid/Late Game Phases

Early Game Phase Hel

Hel is not a good early phase goddess, due to her Decay / Restoration and Repulse / Inspire's base damages and healing. Her skills mostly rely on her scaling for damage, and her cooldown for consistent damage. The best thing to do is to farm and poke as much as possible. But if you are on duo supportive, then you would want to keep your partner from sustaining too much damage and try to negate any Hard CC he/she has has while letting them gain gold as you watch them with Watcher's Gift.

Mid Game Phase Hel

Now, you should have at least your Shoes of Focus and 2-3 other items by now and have fought/helped in some fights. Now you can easily clear a lane and heal up alot quicker making laning so much more easier. The opposing team will most likely target you because of your ability to heal and cc immune your team. I would suggest to stay passive and single out someone with a partner or if you are comfortable with "Stance Dancing" then you may go ahead and get some kills on your own. Just be careful of any Junglers.

Late Game Phase Hel

Now it's your time to shine! Your Build should almost be done giving you 200-500 Magical power. Fueling your Decay / Restoration and Repulse / Inspire's damage output! Now, remember those annoying pokers in your lane, or that annoying Junglers creeping everywhere and trying to kill you/killed you? Well they may still target you but you will make them regret it. Your Damage and sustain are immense and you should have counter build your least favorite god on the other team.

Overall, this is an excellent guide for Hel. Great descriptions on not only variant builds for variant roles, but you have great explanations on how to actually play her.
Praises aside, you barely mentioned one of Hel's prevailing flaws: she is mana HUNGRY. Considering this, wouldn't [Soul Stone] be a better choice than [Vampiric Shroud] since she receives plenty of healing from her skills? This would improve her sustain, as well as give a slight damage boost.

I really like the look of this build and I think I'll definitely try it out in a second when I go on Smite considering I love to main Hel. I didn't bother looking at guides beforehand, I merely just bought items which happened to be shown on the recommended list and went from there! After looking at this, I probably should have been using the Watcher's Gift all the time!

I love to implement Meditation into my own build somewhere, so that's probably the only personal touch I'm going to add to this build when I use it, but overall I really love the look of this build. Nice going!

Would you include Lotus Crown in the build and if in what position would you include it.

Hi there! I'm new to Smitefire so don't really know how it all works, but this seems like a very well-liked guide and build (found by searching for top rated) and I admit your builds are really interesting. Now, I've only looked through in haste at the items you chose for your favorite complete builds, but I have a question about the fact that they don't contain any penetration item, and that these items are listed as optional. Doesn't the build require at least one mandatory penetration-item, since all gods have some protections? For example in build 1, change Rod of asclepius for Obsidian shard (since magical power itself buffes your healing, at least the healing from Inspire with 50 percent of your magical power, and Hel already gets up to 20 percent more healing from her passive). I used to think Rod of asclepius was great and almost mandatory for her but now I only ever get it if I'm playing a very suppporting role.

But like I said I haven't read the whole guide and only looked at the recommended full builds, and if you like to play more supporty healer than dmg mage I get the choice you made. I like playing Hel a lot and the fact is that you can play her in so many different ways with so many different items. Which is fun since so many gods now have a meta that you almost always have to follow if you wanna catch their full potential. That's not the case with Hel if you ask me. I just have that one question about the penetration. I realise Hinder removes protections aswell, but still, the other team are bound to have a tank of some sort.

But just to add I really find the builds fun and inspiring, and the guide itself one of the most well-worked I've seen so far on this site, and I will try them out with my own touch to it. Just wondering about the pen :P

Dude, this build is pure awesome! Every time I use the Sneaky Girl build on the first page, I am the one carrying and supporting my team at the same time! Registered just to +1 and comment. Keep doing what you're doing.

Hey, you have some quality stuff over here.

As i always like to point, you have good bbcoding in this!!
This is of extreme importance since it turns the guide a lot more enjoyable and readable.
In my humble opinion, skill section, and other parts of the guide, looks too heavy, if you know what i mean, it is always better to have a clean, yet beautiful, guide!
Items section have some dark "headings", it's probably a formatting mistake since it differs from the other "headings" of the same section, if not, always look for light colors since they call attention and don't fade in the background!
As a non-native English speaker, I've found some grammar errors, try reading the guide one more time, paying attention on that!!

IMO again, you should always level Repulse first, no matter what, it's better for laning an landing!!

Don't dare to stop improving this <<< It's already amazing but it can improve even more.

Thanks for your input!

I was Trying to fix the majority of the grammar but i don't have any time to fully update it quite yet

For the Colors, I try to go to a signature color of Hel, and use different shades of it.

That is the reason Some/Most of the Headings are Dark

I am trying my hardest to see what can i do with each section, Still a work in progress

I like it. This gives a variety of builds which is important, but Idk about the skill order. Not a Hel player :/.

BB Coding is pretty good, I see you got some templates from the BB Coding guide :3.

Only a couple things I suggest. For Hide of the Urchin, your description is a bit lengthy to pair with your icon. Leave it as is if you wanted it like that, but I would either simplify the description or make the icon a bit bigger.

Imo, there are only 2 things you are lacking information wise. Teamwork/Gameplay + Ability descriptions. I see you put the actual ability descriptions, but you can just see that by hovering over the icon (I assume you know already). Instead, use that space for explaining the specific uses of that skill, what to watch out for/be careful while using it and just general tips for that specific skill.

Lastly, I suggest you put in TormentedTurnip in the credits too, since although it is Jordenito's now, he put in a lot of work into it before he let Jordenito take it over :P.

I will upvote for now, giving this guide a 6.5/10 and hope you expand it further! Good luck

Team work will come soon as i had originally planned to puts in hel's roles in the guide but hesitated.

Builds are decent, personally I prefer #3
But I just can't agree that even as support you are not maxing your 3 first. It is not only one of the biggest nukes in the game when it comes to non-ulti skills, but is also terrific heal AND very good speed boost usefull for chases/escapes. As such it is essential for the support role and survival due to the lack of escape. Your 1 is just a small poke, I'd rarely even use it as self heal.
Item descriptions are good, but the abilities part is not needed. I'd substitute it with more detailed description of their uses, especially when it comes to cleansing the cc...

Tea100, i will fix the skill orders i the next update, and i like Decay's burst thats why i like to increase it first, and that it has a short cool down meaning i can use it when ever i feel threaten or just want to scare the enemy to backing up

I think this guide is supremely efficient, It gives you three separate builds, one for offensive (solo lane), defensive (duo support), and then the equalizer build. Not only that but you mention high skill-floor, and this is extremely true. Sad as it is, in my various experiences, most Hel's are slow to switch stances (not enough CDR) and fail to land most of their skillshots. Skillshots in themselves are high skill-floor and Hel has tons of them. I love this guide, and I feel it will help many people get better has Hel. On the information alone, I'm going to upvote. Very nice job.
(With the recent addition of lo-rez taking out the choices of making our own personal auto-level, I find it a hassle to have to every single game I play as Hel, take the auto-level off and level up my 1, 3, and then 2. Or whatever the situation needs. But this annoys me greatly, and takes a bit of the fun out of playing Hel when I have to hassle about what skill to level)

Thank you Feldraw, i really liked you neith guide too, but all you needed was some BBCoding to add flare and fun to it ^^.

The builds are decent. My biggest problem is that you don't max CDR on all builds, and for a god like Hel, who needs to have a very fluent and consecutive play style and needs to pop out as many heals as possible, it's pretty mandatory.

I think it'd be better if you categorized the items into 'Core Items', 'Defensive Items' & 'Offensive Items', or add 'Situational Items' somewhere. It'll be clearer and more easy to understand.

About actives, I think that Heavenly Agility is a must Hel. She lacks mobility and the heal boost is huge, especially when coupled with Rod of Asclepius.

Watcher's Gift isn't a good choice. Unless you are going support Hel in the duo lane, just stick to Vampiric Shroud.

As for the items explanations, I don't think that they are good enough. You should put more emphasis on the reason why this item is a good choice rather than talking about the dry stats, which the reader probably already knows about and can just read it by mousing over the icon. For example, a proper explanaions to Rod of Asclepius would be:
"A standard item for any healer. The healing bonus is too good to give up on, and the rest of the stats also help your survivability."

The skill order is a bit messed up. I can tell you for sure that you'd always want to max out Repulse / Inspire first, Decay / Restoration 2nd and Hinder / Cleanse last. As for the ultimate, I'm not sure, as I'm not a much of Hel player.

The skill explanations are non-existent. You shouldn't really copy the skill's description. Readers can just mouse over the icon to read it or probably know it already. What you should explain is when and how to use this skill and tips for using it. For example, in lane, you can use the heal from Repulse / Inspire to heal the minions to have a better push.

Skill combos are great and always welcome.

There's a severe lack of game play in this guide. What are Hel's roles in team fights (and boy, does she have a lot of them), how to play with her, how to clear waves, how does she handle herself throughout the game phases; early, mid and late game, seeing as she has such a bad early game and a superb late game. All just general ideas on which you can write a lot.

All in all, this guide doesn't have enough. The build is decent, but the skill order is kinda messed up, the explanations aren't really good, and there's no gameplay. A downvote from me. I hoped my review helped you.

Thank you Jordenito for your input, it always helps me when someone points out my mistakes so i can try and fix them.

I know the skill descriptions are non-existent, i did it on purpose to see if i should write a description or just put down it's stats

Im learning how to use the Build features still and the skill features in it, when i progress i will improve them.
