Introduction

Freya is an Assassin/Mage. Assassins need to be quick and deadly, mages deal magical damage. I play with an emphasis on both of those principals. While her basic attack is physical damage, her Pulse ability changes her damage to ranged magical with life steal. Whether her basic attack is physical or magical, they both have lifesteal and I add a touch of that.

Skills

Other than Freya's Valkyrie's Discretion and Banish, her attacks are all considered basic. Her Irradiate adds lifesteal and bonus magic damage to her physical, while Pulse changes her basic attack to range magical with lifesteal. I build her Pulse ability first, and then get Banish on level 2, and Irradiate on level 3. From there, I stack Pulse and grab her ultimate when I can. When I can't level Pulse, I get Irradiate. Banish is useful as interrupts but it doesn't need more than 1 point in it throughout so I get that last. When I can, I use her 2 ability to give me range and with the proper item build, tons of damage. Even without using the ability, her 1 gives her some side magic damage and her passive adds physical based on her magic.

Items

Meditation

The order I list the items is the order I prioritize the first stage of the item. Refer to the purchase order for the purchase of the individual stages.

  • Warrior Tabi Helps movement speed and attack power. Get the first part at start and the rest later. Gives physical power bonus, which while I focus on magical damage, building a small amount helps when you are on cooldowns or are using your Irradiate ability.
  • Soul Eater Gives physical attacks lifesteal to self and allies (max stage). Get first at the start as well. I go with this instead of Pythagorem's Piece because it's cheaper and the times that you are up close for the physical attacks, it's good to heal even more.
  • Meditation Pick up early as the mana is extremely helpful. The first stage is great for the majority of the game, but can be upgraded later after you have built up some of the other items.
  • Fatalis Increases attack and movement speed. The more mobile you are, the harder to hit you are. And at the final stage, it also removes your slow backward movement as well a bigger speed buff.
  • Demonic Grip More attack speed and at final stage, each hit lowers enemies magic protection, increasing your damage further.
  • Rage More attack speed and amazing critical hit chance build up. Also gives some more physical power.
  • Rod of Tahuti Final item I recommend because by end game, if you have the money, any extra damage you can provide is great. Another great choice could be Obsidian Shard for the magic penetration instead of the magic power.

Now, I understand that I did not recommend consumables or a second active item. The reason for me not recommending them is that every battle is different and you should also have the leeway to tailor your loadout to different situations. Whether you get the Sprint item or something more along the lines of Girdle of Might is up to you. If you're jungling, Hand of the Gods is extremely recommended.

Creeping / Jungling

Freya is an assassin. As such, she can do high burst damage but is also very squishy. Keeping to the jungle and ganking enemy gods on the side will ensure you level quickly, gain money, and can get your items. While she is not the best jungler, she is not incapable of it by any means. Whether you jungle with her or not is your choice as she is also decently capable of holding a lane by herself or with a partner but is also great to catch people by surprise from the jungle.

Summary

I have seen many physical builds of Freya because of her basic attacks but because of her passive ability, Brisingamen's Blessing, I build her magical. As you build her magic power, her physical will get stronger and her Irradiate ability also benefits from the magic. But because her main 2 abilities modify her basic attacks, building her attack speed is just devastating to the enemy. The bonus lifesteal from her main 2 abilities will keep her alive a bit more but getting either Soul Eater or Pythagorem's Piece will help you further and also boost your allies.

With this build, you should be able to strike enemies quickly and annihilate from ground and air.
