My Introduction

What's going on, guys, Stuke here again for another guide continuing my Warrior Series. In this guide, I will teach you what you need to know about playing the god of healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, battle, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the alphabet. Or known as Odin, the Allfather.
Note: you don't have to follow this guide to the smallest detail. These are suggestions on how to play Odin. Please see the comment section below and other tips.

Who is Odin?

Odin is a Physical Melee Warrior that is more guardian-like than some other warriors with a significant lack of damage, like Guan Yu. Still, in the Early Game, Odin does insane damage during the Early Game.

Pros / Cons

Pros
  • High Early Game Damage
  • Portable Arena (The Ring)
  • High Crowd Control

Cons
  • Damage Falls Off Late Game
  • No Sustain
  • Ult is Easily Countered

In the Early Game, Odin's damage is off the charts compared to most of the Early Game Warriors, being able to shred a ton of his opponent's health if given the opportunity. Even when going into the Late Game, Odin's high crowd control and ultimate ability to create a mini-arena that forces the enemy into a corner but at the cost of all that Early Game damage. The downside is that Odin's defense is lacking, especially compared to most Warriors, and his damage starts to dip once heading into the Late Game. The other problem Odin has to face is the lack of healing. Even if you're playing aggressively, you need to be cautious since he will take a ton of damage and cannot keep himself in the fight for long.

Skills

Path to Valhalla
Whenever any other god dies, Odin gains a movement and damage boost for a short duration. Any additional deaths will give Odin a new stack and refresh the duration of the passive. Quite an interesting passive, but I assume this was to mitigate Odin's lack of power in the Late Game once the team fights start happening.

Lunge
Odin leaps at a target location and deals damage in an area upon landing. That's it. While simple on face value, primarily due to him being the first 20 gods in the game, it's when combined with his other ability that it starts to shine.

Raven Shout
Upon activation, Odin gains a health shield that, after a short duration, explodes, dealing damage in a short radius around him, but that's not all. If you use Lunge while this ability is active, the shield detonates once Odin has landed, dealing additional damage and even more if the shield is full before leaping. This combo is why Odin's Early Game is so devastating. It can let him snowball hard but still be a viable shield for a good chunk of health when going into the Late Game.

Gungnir's Might
Are you ready for a lengthy write-up because it's about to get long? Upon activation, Odin takes up a throwing position becoming immune to knock-ups while in this stance. While in this position, Odin releases a pulse that damages and slows all enemy gods close to him up to three times. When fired, the projectile will travel forward until it hits an enemy god, making this Odin's lane clear. For each pulse, Odin cycles through magic runes that provide different effects. Depending on which rune you land on, that can also buff or crowd control.
  • Rune 1: Provides Odin and ally god with an attack speed buff for a duration.
This rune can be great for boxing opponents in the cage, or you can use it to help against towers, jungle bosses, and other objectives for quicker clearing.
  • Rune 2: Allows the projectile to home in on a target.
While that seems a bit lackluster at first glance, it can be helpful to hit those more mobile enemies like Susano or Bastet.
  • Rune 3: Hitting an enemy god with the projectile stuns them for a duration.
While each rune has its situation, the final rune is the most used of the three. Since being able to stun a target can provide set-up for your Bird Bomb, his ultimate, secure the kill or attack from a safe distance.

Ring of Spears
This ability is Odin's primary source of control. Upon activation, Odin creates an octagon (still called a ring) of spears around an area. Enemy gods caught in the ring will have their healing reduced to 0. Any enemy god that dies in the spear gives Odin a stack of physical damage for each enemy killed. The only downside of this is that enemies with leaps can pass through the walls or have the Phantom Veil Relic could bypass this obstacle, but that might not be in their best interest unless they're willing to take a bunch of damage if they were to leave that way. To make up for the ring's high escapability. Any enemy can destroy the walls of the ring to avoid the damage giving the enemy three options:
  • Leave the ring the wrong way and take damage.
  • Leave the spear the right way.
  • Fight Odin and his teammates.
  • Survive.

Tips, Tricks, & Combo

  • Bird Bomb
Odin does a lot of damage in the Early Game compared to other Solo Lane gods, so play aggressively enough to bully the enemy and get the first kill to help steamroll throughout the game. Do it quickly, as Odin's damage falls off hard as the game continues.
  • Master of the Ring
You can trap someone in to confirm the kill or widen the gap between you and the person trying to kill you or an ally.
  • Prioritize Defence
Despite being a Warrior, his defenses, health, and lack of healing make it hard for him to sustain, so focusing your build on more defensive items for the Mid and Late game will improve his chance of survival.

1
🠞
A classic combo for any Odin player called the "Bird Bomb." As stated in the ability section, the amount of damage this ability provides, the only downside is that it can be easy to dodge, so find a way to slow down or keep them locked in one spot before you drop the birdbomb.
2
🠞
Use this combo to either engage or disengage. This combo can help line up your birdbomb or to widen the gap between you and your would-be killer.
Ultimate Combo
🠞 🠞 🠞
Hitting the enemy with Gungnir's Might to get them to slow down, or stun if fully charged, pop your shield and leap on the now slowed target to make the shot easier to land. After that, you want to trap them in the Ring to punish them for not getting away sooner. Alternatively, you can use Gungnir's Might after you drop Ring on your target to make it easier to box them or drop Ring first and follow up the combo from that point.

Stages of the Game

Early Game

No god I can think of has a more devastating god in the Early Game than Odin. The Bird bomb Combo is a certified killer if the enemy is squishy enough. Be careful, as Odin's protections are low and easy, just as easy to kill as his opponent.

Middle Game

This stage is where Odin's protection starts going up, but at the same time, his damage is starting to take a downturn. It's not an abrupt change for protection and damage, but there's enough to make things interesting.

Late Game

Now Odin's protection and damage have completely switched places as now he is very tanky, but he lacks all that damage output. As a substitute, his crowd control improves, and he is online more frequently, so it's okay for him.

Summary

In conclusion, Odin can be a serious powerhouse. If fed throughout the Early Game and combined with his Crowd Control with his Ring of Spears can make him a threat if dealt with slowly or suffer from a snowballing Odin. So, take these tips into battle and show glory to the Allfather.

Itemisation isn't bad at all except for Warrior's Axe and Warding Sigil are far better than Bluestone Pendant in current meta.

For comparison to your build to the pro/meta build for Odin:
Warrior's Axe ( Sundering Axe) > Blackthorn Hammer > Mystical Mail > Pridwen > Bulwark of Hope / Pestilence > Void Shield / Spectral Armor

Also Blackthorn Hammer is swapped quite often late game for Brawler's Beat Stick or something like Arondight.

Other than that the only things are firstly, I would advise against for Odin is Horrific Emblem as a core relic over Shield of Thorns or Purification Beads as he has no CC immunity and the reduced damage from HE is kind of insignificant to a late game crit hunter whereas thorns can still do great if timed right however it does have niche potential into immobile/multiple AA gods (Arachne, Artemis, Olorun).

Secondly, I would suggest trying out levelling Odin's 3 before his 1 (2 > 3 > 1 > 4). Once you have your 2 at rank 4 or 5, you can full clear a wave in Solo so putting points into your 1 makes the damage its gaining kind of redundant? Maxing the 3 after allows you to full clear with bird bomb and poke with 3 harder. Also once you're levelling the 3 you will likely have Blackthorn Hammer + Mystical Mail built, so with the first pulse you can clear fairly easily with your 3, allowing for bigger damage pokes with your bird bomb instead of using it for wave clear.

Last touches are just to add situational items of Brawler's Beat Stick, Magi's Cloak and Mantle of Discord.

Nice work overall as usual though!

Hey stuke, spotted a mistake in your guide. In the Ring of Spears description, you mention it reduces attack speed. That feature got removed.

Yo Stuke,

I will maintain that I feel Runic Shield is a stronger early-game item. You have it as item #5, and I feel that's too late. Dropping an enemy's magical power by 50 in the early game is significant, especially when they only have 1-2 items with power. Better options would probably be more standard magical protection items, like Oni Hunter's Garb (which is not even listed anywhere), Pestilence (for anti-heal when you're not ulting), or dual protections like Spirit Robe. You might even consider Shogun's Kusari, since while he won't get a lot out of it, that aura is nice for grouping up on objectives.

Earlier items are standard and seem fine.

I don't like Mantle of Discord on Odin either, or at least not as the main example...I think there are better items for him, and this is more for gods that can really use that stun to keep them alive or give them another couple of seconds to try to kill before being killed. He has his shield from Raven and his leap, and more prots.

I don't know if it truly is only knockbacks, but the writeup for his 3 is immunity to knockbacks, not knockups as you have written.

I don;t remember where I had this discussion, however knockbacks and knockups are considered the same thing for immunity.
confirmed by Ajax

I still believe their code is wonky though, or their writing.

As one option, I'd replace the hide of the urchin with spirit robe for max cdr - allows you to spam ult more often.

Plenty of health from pestilence and midgardian, so I'd say spirit robe is an acceptable sub.

Relic dagger is a nice substitute too if you want to spam blink rune + ult

This guide is pretty damn amazing. I'm rank X with Odin and use the same build as a jungler. Only thing I recently swapped out was Hide for Runeforged. I switch between the two, but sometimes, using Odin's slow, that Runeforged adds that extra damage to secure kills in team fights. Great great guide though.

Yup, solid guide, common but solid build. I agree. +1.

Been running all the variations of this build and I really like where it's going for me. I've always been an Odin fan ( he was my first mastery 1 god in smite <3) but I faded away from him for a good while and this really helped me remember what a monster he is in the right hands.

I've been mostly using the Solo/Mid setup for a bruiser in joust with Hide replaced with Frostbound depending on enemy comp. aptly named JumpRekt Inc.

Just curious, why Shifters as the final item for your Jungler setup?

Power and Protection and an increase to either depending on how much health you have.
