Introduction

Hello SMITEFire and welcome to my Complete Chronos God Guide. This is my first guide on SMITEFire so forgive me if things seem a little out of order.

A Little About Myself
I have been playing Smite since Athena came out. Early 2013. I participated in Season 1, missed out on Season 2 and 3. I've been playing Chronos since the moment he came out and I have loved him ever since. His design and abilities just clicked with me, to the point where I can even style with Chronos.

Here I am now, Master X on Chronos with a lot to show. I'll admit that every once and a while I still have a little difficulty playing such a hard god. However I know that with this build you are going to truly feel the true extent of his power.

Nonetheless, the aim of this Guide is to help Smite players who are maybe considering Chronos as a Main. I can understand how hard he is first-hand but once you get into the groove, you will have so much fun with him.

This guide will go over Items to use on Chronos, as well as his Skills, Pros/Cons, and Combos.

Without further ado, let's hop right into the Guide.

Pros/Cons

PROS
High Burst Damage
Penetration
Great Lane Clearing
Life-saving Ult
Has CC (Stop Time)
Powerful Basic Attack (combined with passive)
Hard to kill mid-late game
Good Chaser
If you have the full build he can take out a phoenix in less then 6 seconds (combined with passive)
CONS
Squishy-to an extent
Has no High Damage Ult
Although he can survive many situations, enough cc and enemies can kill him
If you don't abuse his passive you are f**ked (SERIOUSLY PLEASE READ HIS PASSIVE IT WILL HELP YOU A LOT)
Easy to kill early game without Ult and 2 (Accelerate)

Abusing the Clock (Passive)

Your Passive is Wheel of Time, depending on where the wheel is when activating you 2 aka Accelerate, it provides a different benefit to Chronos.

Section I: Heal 1.5% Max Health Per Second
Section II: 100% Mana Refund On Abilities
Section III: +20% Magical Power
Section IV: +35% Magical Power Contribution to Basic Attacks

You need to take a good hard look at this. This Passive will greatly effect the outcome of a game for you. Each has a specific role that can really help the outcome of a team-fight or making a daring escape.

Now you have to understand. There is a small clock that has an arrow infinitely moving in your bottom left corner of your screen. An arrow is constantly moving clockwise and will stop when activate your 2 (Accelerate). When it stops it applies whatever boost the arrow landed.

When to use the clock

Your Accelerate is a boost that, while active, boosts his attack speed and he is not affected by the attacking movement speed debuff. Which basically gives him Fatalis.

Now as you learned from the last chapter Accelerate is affected wherever the arrow on the clock landed. Here is where and when you should use each ability.

Section I: Heal 1.5% Max Health Per Second
Use when you are escaping, or when you are trying to reach another lane for a teamfight and need to gets some health before you reach them. Helps early game while ganked as well
Section II: 100% Mana Refund On Abilities
You will ALWAYS USE THIS EARLY GAME. You have limited mana potions and you will be very mana hungry. So this will help you stay in your lane for longer periods of time while minion clearing. Also in a situation where you are close to running low on mana and need to attack something very quickly it is also useful.
Section III: +20% Magical Power
You wont be using this too often, I would suggest this for the sake of a quick minion clear. The MAIN reason however is if you are chasing an enemy but is out of range of your AA, so you use activate your 2, land on the 3 section, and pick the god off (using your 1) with the extra magical damage applied.
Section IV: +35% Magical Power Contribution to Basic Attacks
Ok so before i explain this let me explain my build. Because I use demonic grip I apply a debuff that removes the magical protection of any god by 12% for a max of 3 stacks. I then use my 3 and 1 to slow and damage. THEN with the help of the Polynomicon's passive and the attack boost from section 4. I pick the enemy off if he is still alive. (All of this is while accelerate is active)

So all and all you will be using Section 4 when...
1.Attacking any enemy god whether it be a team-fight or a 1v1
2.Taking out Towers and Phoenix's (The combined damage boost of Poly and Section IV does so much damage that you can take out ANY tower or phoenix in a mere in 4-7 seconds ALONE. ITS THAT POWERFUL)
3. Taking out Fire Giant or Gold Fury.
4. Taking out the Enemy Titan.

Your Situation Mid

You should expect to be focused throughout the entire game. Any Chronos fed is a nightmare and a late game Chronos spells doom for the enemy team. Your 3 + 1 immedietely kills squishy assassins, hunters, and mages that didnt build any protections (of course there are exceptions like Hades, Zhong Kui, maybe Thor), your Section 3 Boosts it even more to the point that your 1 could take an assassin depending on how underleveled he is.
Activating your 2 at section 4 gives your AA CRAZY DAMAGE! 3 and 1 are down? Np! Use your 2 to become a temporary ADC. Split pushing is amazing with Chronos. You can solo a Phoenix in a mere 4-7 seconds (note that you will still be kinda low on health after you kill the Phoenix, so be sure to GTFO has fast as possible or get minions to help)

You should be very careful and aware who you are playing against, make sure the enemy didnt buy a mag or phys bot early to try and pick you off. If you lose the advantage in mid you will be inherently F**ked till mid-late game.

Focus on using the your accelerate to use the Section 2 of you clock before you activate you abilities on minion clearing. That way you will be able to stay in mid lane for longer periods of time without losing so much mana.

Item Situation

Shoes of Focus are my prefered choice since its cooldown combined with Chrono's Pendant will help you outrun and outlast enemy gods chasing you down since your abilities will be up much faster. However if you truly do need the extra power dont be afraid to get the Shoes of the Magi

Chrono's Pendant - You know what's awesome? CDR. You know what's even more awesome? MOAR CDR!!!!

Spear of Desolation-Buy this for your third item, it's a quick early game advantage with 120+ Mag Power AND +20 Pen which is a BIG help.
Fun fact: If you activate Chrono's 2 (Accelerate) and kill an enemy God. The free cooldown effect from the Spear will allow you to activate your 2 AGAIN and stack it. In other words you basically go TWICE HAS FAST. Imagine Activating your 2 and multiply that by 2. That's basically what you get for a short period of time.

Polynomicon - Apply your 4th section of your passive when you activate your 2 to do stupid high damage with your autoattacks. If you use your 3 and 1 mid-acceleration while activating your 2-Section 4 Combo, you will do that same stupid high damage 2 more times

Demonic Grip - Congratulations, you are now an ADC! If you read my previous chapters on how to use this. I think there is no intro needed for this item.

Rod of the Thatututututi-INFINITE POOOOOWWWWWEERRRRRRRRR

Conclusion

Thank you for checking out my Complete God Guide on Chronos. I will constantly be updating this Guide to ensure it is as current as it can possibly be. Also, if you any questions or suggestions, please feel free to leave your input!

This guide is aimed at beginner Chronos players and ones that wish to play him in ranked as a reference on how to build & play Chronos particularly in Conquest. Even though I am a Master X Chronos player, I do not claim to know everything about the God. There is still a lot I can learn about how to build & play him.

Hi Nonstop797, I am an 8 chronos who happens to play on console. I noticed you don't build pen boots and i was wondering if that was because of the 3.17 patch or is it just because of the extra CDR? In my expirience pen boots are a much better option to go with especially with not having obsidian shard. I feel like 20% CDR is enough on chronos. If you don't mind can you explain you're choice to me to not go pen boots?

Lol mate, haters are going to hate. I personally enjoy the build and am a fellow diamond chromosome. You can do many things with many gods. I do like to swap an item here or there based on the situation but this build is seriously strong. The first time I used it I went like 14-2

Hello fellow Diamond Chronos here! I was intrigued by the option of not stacking. I tried your build with a small tweak of building obsidian instead of spear of desolation. Your build worked great! Though from what I read in your build why don't you recommend stacking? I have always went Book of Toth. Is it not needed?

Nonstop797 (2) | September 4, 2016 9:36pm
Hey Spicy! Thanks for noticing it. Nowadays i actually do prefer stacking alot more, infact i agree with the obsidian shard. I meant to change this all a long time ago and i didnt decided to update until now. I got super bummed out after i got so much unneeded flame for my choice of items i just decided not to come back cause i didnt want to deal with it.

Its ok. What is the point of playing MOBA's if you aren't trying out builds? It is the way the meta is determined. Through various testing.

Hey man ef all that noise. I decided to get into chronos with the release of his new skin and this really helped me out. As usual I'll do my own fine tuning for how I play but I had no idea where to start. Thanks.

Well I think it'd better to consider be re-publishing the guide at this point as it'd be a shame if it went to waste, only thing that I'd opt for would be replacing the Spear of Desolation as mentioned before- Warlock's Sash or Book of Thoth might be more helpful (also preferably before the Chronos' Pendant).

Nonstop797 (2) | September 4, 2016 9:39pm
I planned to changed that a long time ago however i kinda left smitefire for quite a while after i got a **** load of flaming that i had no desire to deal with. Yes i agree i dont like Spear of desolation anymore. My original idea was to have so much CC on chronos that you would never have to worry about beaing ganked simply because your abilities would always be up since. However now that i got back into the groove of smite (i left for about 2 years) and was more confident i realized how my build was flawed simply because of such a large change in the items from season 1 to season 3. Not to mention at the time i wasnt aware of some of the new Gods. Now ive updated this and it still isnt what i want but its fixed some key things

Honestly this build is good except for the third item. I think it is way too expensive as a third item, and its main creation was to be a luxury item in the late game. I have no suggestions and which item to replace it though, so sorry about that. Maybe just keep the same build but move it as last.

@Nonstop, a couple of things.
  1. Don't let toxic people make you salty. Ignore people like MSBE if at all possible, as I'm sure they get a rise out of your reactions.

  2. You put a good amount of effort into your writeup, and it's clear you're very familiar with the god. One nice thing would be if you could throw in a bit more BB Coding, to make it easier to read, emphasize things a bit more, etc. The blocks of straight text can be difficult on the eyes. If you need help, there are plenty of guides on coding, or you can ask about specific things and we can help. It IS a lot of work, though, so I understand if it's a bit much for your schedule or whatever.

  3. Arvorus has a point about the CDR (and other things)...but remember, this is your guide, so if it works for you, it works for you. We're not saying it has to be the AbsoluteBestBuildEver (haha), as it's hard to say what really that would be. If it works and you have solid reasoning for your choices, great. But, always best to listen to feedback, maybe try out some of their suggestions to see how you like it, and be open to making adjustments to your build (or add other options) if you feel they're viable.

Anyway, would love to see you keep honing this guide! Will withhold an upvote for a bit to confirm that you'll keep updating the guide. If you do and I miss it, you're welcome to notify me if you feel it's worthwhile.

Don't delete the guide, you have a really good base, and like Bran said, it's well written.

I also agree with Bran on his other points, especially point 3. My comment was just a suggestion. You can implement parts of it into your guide, or none at all. Looking back, I feel that in changing your build around, I may have turned it into something of mine, instead of taking something of yours and offering feedback. If that's the case, you can (and probably should, honestly) roll-back some of the changes I made and fix it into something that suits your playstyle.

Nonstop797 (2) | July 21, 2016 1:22pm
Im sorry about the saltiness. However you can understand how i feel that on my first build and first try that i get **** like him. I understand that my build has flaws but the fact that he made an entire profile call it "Most****tybuildever" and be incredibly toxic about it kinda ticked me off.
I did say that i would be more then happy to have advice and criticism, but this is not why i expected.

As for the actual guide itself, I actually do agree with him/her about the CDR. You don't really need it, especially given how your steroid already lasts almost a whole fight and how you can reset your cool-downs with your ult.

I think that Spear of Desolation is too much of an investment to be bought as a third item, or even as anything before your 6th item. I'd probably change the build to:
    Soul Stone
    Shoes of the Magi
Book of Thoth (not necessary, but it fits in with Chronos's late-game hyper-carry style)
Dynasty Plate Helm (also not necessary, but it's a really strong and efficient t2 item)
    Demonic Grip
    Polynomicon
    Rod of Tahuti
Spear of Desolation (more of luxury item than anything)
If you don't want Book or Spear then get a situational item as your final.
Good situational items for Chronos are:
Obsidian Shard (anti-synergy with Demonic but good for split-pushing)
Breastplate (honestly Witchblade might be better here as CDR makes your ult less effective)
    Void Shield
    Winged Blade
Divine Ruin (you don't really need it against slow heals but burst heals might be problematic)
Gem of Isolation isn't good on Chronos as you have no tick damage and the only other slow in your kit, Stop Time, actually works against it (slows are useless if they can't move in the first place).

There's probably many more items that I should be including in that list, but it's getting late and I have to sleep. You're the mastery level X Chronos. Experiment!

Also note that Soul Stone and Dynasty Plate Helm are temporary items that should be traded out to make room for stronger items down the road.

Yeah, the item order is different, but the final build is fairly similar to yours (more burst and less poke though).

As for the rest of the guide, your could have your pros/cons be defined some more, your items and relics be expanded on (should probably add some more relics, too), and your guide aesthetic be improved upon (more Bbcoding would be nice). However, given that you only had a day to make this guide, I think it's decent.

Let me ALSO say THANK you for the situational items cause i completely forgot to add obsidian shard and winged blade. (Which i do use for some specific reasons) However i dont agree with void shield. Also yes im fully aware what your purpose of adding soul stone and plate helm was.

Nonstop797 (2) | July 21, 2016 12:04pm
I can understand how you prefer Book of Thoth over Spear of Desolation and I 100% agree. It's just that when you use Spear of Desolation you are able to last longer in a team-battle or when being ganked.

Let's say you are having a mid-fight and you killed the enemy jg or mid. If you're still low and you accelerate petered out, and you have no ult. The kill you just earn will allow you to accelerate out of there since the cooldown provided by the Spear of Desolation.

Same thing with team-fight. If you're having issues you can continue your onslaught of 2-3-1.

However i can see that in the long run Book of Thoth is more valueable in the end. Seeing that Spear is in the end more of a late game item. However its penetration really does help kill a god VERY quickly.
