Introduction

Hello and welcome to my Bellona guide, for the the latest god on the battlefield. This is my second guide so there will be some flaws to it, but that is what the comment section is for. After playing this build several times I have managed to get high K/Ds every time when I have played with a decent team. But the most important thing for me is that I am having fun with the build whether I am winning or not and so far this simple factor has been successful for me.

I have built this guide for specifically joust, but it works in siege, assault and conquest solo lane. I may look into a second guide on arena, jungle or support Bellona in the future.

So without further ado have fun playing this easy/medium difficulty build that should be reasonable to beginners and wreck some God of War havoc to enemy gods with experienced players. Just one thing to notice is that I can guarantee that Bellona is due a BIG nerf which may effect how well she plays in the future

Bellona

Lore

Pro's and Con's

Pros:

+Very Strong kit variety
+Great sustain
+Tanky but can still give out big D's
+Strong in team fights
+Good escape
+decent lane clear
Cons:

-Week to healers
-If abillities on cool down, you're dead in a fight
-Needs a nerf

Ability Guide

Shield Bash
Good escape. I don't see this move used offensively much with other Bellonas, but personally the slow that comes with this is great at securing kills. But keep it to dodge enemy ults such as Fenrir and Scylla if the battle is early in.

Bludgeon
This is the move that makes Bellona so good early game, which is why you want to max this ability out first. The AoE is great but the damage from the slam afterwards is immense. I use it to lane clear (mainly slam dunk the archers) and also finish gods off. Try and use this abbility as much as possible as it won't help that much in escapes. The hammer is great for killing he rest of the minions and enemies.

Scourge
The new disarm in this ability is a game changer. When going against assassins or hunters in a team fight, use this ability on them first and they will be baffled and run about like headless chickens. This is probably the first hard counter to the basic attack reliant classes in smite. The whip with the heal is also good at chasing enemies due to it's range increase, so I normally prefer this to kill the enemies who start running away.

Eagle's Rally
Although this ability was designed for the intention of team fights, use it when you can. The best thing about this ability is the leaping stun. I normally use it to hit retreating gods. With team fights however, battles tend to migrate so you never know how long the buffs will be useful for.

Game Play

Initiate when the enemies get to aggressive. Flinging out all your abilities will put your opponents off, allowing your team mates to safely to damage from the sides.

The prefered combo is Bludgeon initiate, Scourge ***sassins/hunters, whip enemies to damage them further. If any fall back Shield Bash them to slow them (if the fight isn't looking good shield bash away to your tower and if any use an ability to escape, stun them with your Eagle's Rally.

Bellona has a good snowball curve (becomes fed easily) with the current patch. This makes her mid-late game immense. Try to push often before the enemies turtle enough to become just as strong again.

The build I use allows her to tank towers and Phoenix alike, whilst still doing good damage against them.

Bellona will want to initiate unless there is a guardian on the team. Initiate after the mage or someone on your team has ranged AoE, (I recommend in joust a: Hunter/Assassin, Mage, Warrior/Guardian team composition in any joust game)has weakened the opposition. Try and move as much as possible in team fights. As with all gods eliminate the carry first and tank last. If the team has a big aoe ult then try and force it out first. Only push the lane when the whole team is not there, even more so if there is one enemy god. Look out for ganks if an enemy is missing. Wards work but you don't need to worry to much as there are only two gank spots on joust. If it is assault then don't even bother at all.

Primary Items

This item can keep Bellona fighting for a long time early game as mana will slowly disappear with her spamming abilities. I find this new item's great on any mana intensive warriors and Bellona is one of them.

Warrior Tabi

Great for kicking people with, no I jest. I always buy a pair of boots for all characters. If you want to keep up with the enemy; it is an absolute must!

Spirit Robe

A great defense item against all gods. No wonder it is put in the smite's recommended build.

Runeforged Hammer

As this is tanky build converting all that defense into damage is great at keeping Bellona a threat to enemies. I buy this item now to keep Bellona getting kills at this stage to help her snowball..

Shifter's Shield

I like this item... alot. It fits so well with the tanky and damaging build that I have gone for. The item basically allows you to go more offensive early and when your hp is low take less damage.

Stone of Gaia

This is the only item I am not sure about. I pick it over a physical defense item as Scourge normally cancels out that. Where as Burst damage mages can be tricky at times. If there is a healer you could pick Ppestilence or if the team has some high leveled Physical gods I would go Hide of the Nemean Lion or something like Sovereignty.

Titan's Bane

So you are getting some damage from Runeforged Hammer but isn't anough late game. Titan's bane will take that and make it more efficient with Penetration. This help's take out Physically tanky Guardians and other gods more generally.

Other Items

Greater Purification - for crowd control effects such as Ares' and Hades' Alts.

Fist of the Gods - make that Hand of the Gods] useful late game

Aegis Pendant - for situations such as a thanatos ult, Kukulkan's alt, Nu Wa's Ult or when you are low on health and being chased.

Greater Blink - I don't buy this often but it is great for initiation. Just make sure your team is ready to back you up or you may look like a complete fool.

Girdle of Inner Power - if cc is not effecting your game, just go for more power. Although don't be afraid to use it or you may never use it.

Salvation - AN ABSOLUTE MUST IN ASSAULT, tell all your friends as it wins games in Assault.

Potions - just make sure you keep topped up on your mana/health. Move on to elixirs when finished as they make you a beast!!!

After Note

This second guide is based on my first GUIDE:

http://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/odin-theres-no-escaping-the-all-father-joust-and-assault-5488

Just want to say thanks for all the help and support I got in the comment section.

I appreciate that at the moment Bellona guides will come 2 a penny (or a dime a dozen). However there aren't to many joust builds which is my most played game mode.

If there is any changes that you think could be made I am always open for positive criticism. However last guide I did someone basically said change all the items, which is the point of my guide. If there was the perfect Bellona I wouldn't know but this is what works for me.

I will try and post my Bellona K/D's later. Just to give a clue I have her mastered and haven't lost with her or played with a negative K/D.

Good luck anyway and go wreck some Bellona Mayhem!!!

Good build, but I agree that there isn't a ton of gameplay info.

Maybe you should label this build as a counter-carry build because it seems to more focused on countering adcs like hunters, ao kuang, etc.

Bellona's basic attacks are among her strongest assets so I would like to see some more item suggestions for developing her basics, like The Executioner, Frostbound Hammer, and Asi.

Aside from being a little bland and more or less the recommended build for Bellona, +1

EDIT: Also if you're wondering how to develop the gameplay section, discussing skill combos is great, but some players like to see specific god match ups, countering certain abilities, pros and cons for certain tactics, how aggressive you should be with this build, and things to watch for.

I actually like this guide quite a bit, but I see what angrytoast was saying. A bit more on the joust gameplay in the gameplay section would be good (I know it's not as complicated as say conquest or siege, but there are still strategies that one would employ). Other than that though this guide looks quite nice and its build is very viable. An upvote from me.

Sadly, a downvote from me.

I'm not sure I agree with any of your comment. These are my reasons...

1. I'm not sure what you classify as a guide, but this tells you all the items and how to play her.
2. The gameplay section says exactly what to do, I am not willing to go over how to play the game in general as there are more general guides for that, so there is not much else to say. Maybe you didn't read the title where it says the build is for joust/assault as there is no complications of ganking, rotations etc.. that one has to consider within the game mode conquest.
3. Yes, many of the items are in the recommended section ingame. However if you look at the item section it tells you why I picked them and I can assure you that I picked the items to 'gel' together well to make the god play well and more importantly enjoyable.
4. I do have alternatives? Not sure if I can comment further on that. I put them in the main Items section as there was not much point in making a whole new section on them if you missed them. They are also in the item build up top.

I am sorry if the build is that bad that you would downvote it. From someone who seams to be highly involved within the smite fire forums I find it hard to argue. However I must express my opinions and hopefully you won't mind. Anyway have fun smiting and good luck in playing Bellona in the future!
