Introduction

Hey! For those of you that don't know me from Mobafire, I'm Amazing Monkey! I just thought I'd whip up a quick guide for beginners. I am actually fairly new to Smite myself, but I have found that this is a suitable way to play with Bastet.

I hope this helps you guys and please, leave comments! I'm learning too!

Skills

Nine Lives- A bit of an underwhelming passive in my opinion. But, if you plan on not dying more that nine times (which is what I usually try to avoid), then this will be incredibly useful late game. Sometimes the respawn time is over 80 seconds long!

Pounce- This is Bastet's regular burst move. It is a great harassing skill as well as escaping skill. It is also good for initiating when you are needed in a hurry. Also, it is worth try this skill through walls. Bastet is able to hop through a lot of them, including the base!

Razor Claws- One of Bastet's primary damage tools. Enemies who are scratched will bleed out and take damage over time. I recommend maxing this skill first as it will do brutal damage with your armor penetration as well. It also gives Cat Call a direct target, so I recommend scratching the squishies.

Nine Tails- This is a great chasing skill, as it slows its target by 35% movement speed. I recommend saving this for when the opponent starts running.

Cat Call- Bastet summons three giant cats to help fight in battle. They focus the enemies who are bleeding first and then move onto the nearest enemy.

Items

This section is out of date. The content is still helpful, but keep in mind that there are better items to use in typical situations.

I typically play aggressively when I use Bastet. She is a melee assassin, so I use a build that honors that role.

Warrior Tabi- One of the few and only options for melee Gods at the moment. As you can see, it gives you a whole lot of goodies.

Titan's Bane- This is not typically the very first item I will get for a melee God. But Bastet is an exception. Because she leaps in to do damage, the armor penetration really helps the effectiveness of her burst.

Devourer's Gloves- I've found that it's good to have life steal in this game. There are a lot of times where you're going to be away from base long enough to want sustain. If you are struggling in your lane, I suggest getting this item before Titan's Bane.

Frostbound Hammer- This is a great chasing item, allows you to slow enemies that you successfully attack. It also gives you health and extra damage that you will need as a melee fighter.

Voidblade- This item will help your team out as well as yourself. Not only do you get a little extra damage, but you also drop the enemies' armor. Bastet's cats will be pleased with this item as well!

Deathbringer- Pretty standard dps item. It works really well with your basic attacks and also improves your burst from skills.

Abilities

For those of you who are very new, abilities are purchasable spells that can be used for the duration of the game. You have a maximum of three slots, so choose wisely!

MEDITATION

Meditation

Meditation- Some of you might think I'm crazy for starting with a magic casting ability. Well, whether you're casting magic or not, you're most likely going to find yourself using a lot of mana. As for Bastet, not having mana can ultimately decide your survival. This spell will replenish your mana and allow you to harass properly.

SPRINT

sprint

Sprint- If your enemy is moving swiftly and you need to catch them or escape, this is a great movement speed boost.

GIRDLE OF MIGHT

Girdle of Might- This will increase your physical damage. If you aren't having trouble in the game, this will help you ensure that you get a kill!

PURIFICATION BEADS

Purification Beads- If you are faced with a team that has a lot of hard cc (crowd control), then this will help you escape. Gods, such as Ymir, can stun you after your Pounce. This will remove that stun and give you the freedom to return to your leaping spot.

HAND OF THE GODS

hands of the gods

Hand of the Gods- This ability is incredibly useful for Bastet should you choose to utilize the jungle. However, it is not entirely necessary. I recommend getting it, if you are needed in lane often or wish to snag some of the enemies' buffs.

Strategy

As it is very late and I can't edit my guides at the moment, I will be very brief in this section. Feel free to ask me any questions in the light of my vagueness.

When starting with an aggressive build, Bastet is rather vulnerable early game. In addition, her skills consume a significant amount of mana. Because of these things, it is best for her to remain passive early game. If the enemy comes to close, feel free to remind them that your Cat Claws are quite potent. Try to snag a wave of minions with the harass, if you can. Unless you trust your lane partner I do not recommend engaging until you turn level 5 and have Cat Call.

Because of her poor early game, many Bastet players move to the jungle. With Hand of the Gods, Bastet jungles fairly well and is very suitable for ganking. If you choose to jungle, be sure to communicate with your partner to ensure he is prepared for you to engage. The best approach is to run up behind them as they are focused on the waves of minions and your partner. Focus on the weakest opponent or the one without escapes.

In team fights, it is better not to engage first. There should be a tank on your team that initiates. After Gods are exchanging blows, look for the carries (the Gods that deal the damage for their team). You will probably see that they are the most simple to kill and for that reason, they stay farther back. Use your Pounce to close the distance and immediately use Razor Claws to land your mark. If you are fast enough, release your cats so that they chase the carry. Use your basic attacks as much as possible and don't forget to use your Nine Tails whip to keep them from escaping!

Team fights can be very chaotic and confusing. It is important to remember that although you deal a lot of damage, you are still quite vulnerable. Don't forget that you can return to your Pounce's starting point by simply pressing 1 again.

More to Come!

Well, as I am just now putting this guide out there. There are definitely some things that I will do to keep this guide up to date and looking fresh! But for now, this is the unfinished product!

If there is anything in particular that you would like to see or like me to try for this guide, please leave me a comment and let me know! This isn't just for me! It's to help everyone out with the new game.

Thanks for viewing! =3

Well thank you, that's very flattering haha.

Yeah, I haven't really been on this site in a good while. I maay find the time to update and add to this guide. But seeing as how I've heard that Bastet is getting some adjustments soon, I think it would be a good idea for me to just wait until then.

From my experience, Bastet is most successful between levels 5 and 16. But I understand your dilemma, Muffin. The biggest adjustment with her is calibrating her early burst damage with her later DPS damage. Bastet naturally loses her lethal effectiveness as soon as the enemy is able to catch up with levels OR build up enough defense. It is important to adapt between the two major approaches in her play style.

Truthfully, there is no definite answer I can give you. You already should have all the penetration you need at this point. It is a matter of adapting the build to your opponents' composition. I will eventually have more explanation for this in my guide. But, as long as you have a powerful damage base with at least SOME health and defense, you should perform well.

If you have more specific issues, I would be more than happy to discuss them. =3

Thank you for the help, much appreciated. If I have any more problems I'll make sure to run them through you :)

I would then suspect your build is incorrect and or your position is incorrect. Maybe bad timing on things incorrect rotation of skills. There are many many factors that could throw this off. I played Bastet the most in ranked games and she has won 75% of them.

Quoted:

Bastet only falls of late game if you had a bad early game.
She is dependent on the early game a bit too much.

I always have a good early game, amazing infact.

^Eh, the whole thing needs a rework anyways (aside from the changes I've already made). I published this thing around the beginning of Smitefire's existence!

After a while, I'll put in the work that I've done with my Mobafire guides. But until then, it is what it is =3
