Introduction

Hi, i'm Dust and i going to show what i know about Bakasura, The Great Devourer, he was one of my first assassins and one of what the most i like to play (together with Fenrir, Loki, Ne Zha and Thanatos), i'm actually mastery X with him. Constructive criticism is very welcome. :D

Pros / Cons

Pros

+ Great Sustain with Eat Minions

+ True Damage with Butcher Blades

+ Good Mobility with the movement speed of Insatiable Hunger

Cons

- Squishy if built with full power

- Not too good in team fights

Items

Boots Start
Assassin's Blessing is now the go-to Jungle Starter, with it you have some nice extra Damage on camps and very good Sustain ( Assassin's Blessing + Bakasura Eat Minion ). Boots so you can start working towards your first item ( Ninja Tabi or Warrior Tabi ). mana potions can help with Mana Sustain if needed ( you already have a lot of Health Sustain, so healing potions are not needed ), and Ward that early can be useful on Invades.

Katana Start
Another option is to get Katana, it gives some Attack Speed and nearly the same Movement Speed as Boots, but for a higher price, meaning you will have less Gold to buy Potions, which reduces your Sustain. but the extra Attack Speed will increase your Damage Potential.

Ninja Tabi/Warrior Tabi
Ninja tabi gives you a good chunk of Attack Speed, that is more useful for Bakasura than the higher Physical Power of Warrior Tabi, unless you plan on picking 3 or more Attack Speed Items ( you'll probably do ), then it's better to get Warrior Tabi because later in the game you'll exceed the cap when using your Passive Insatiable Hunger, because you want to attack as much as possible when activating Butcher Blades.

Hastened Katana
A problem that i always have with Bakasura is to keep close to my target, even with the Movement Speed of Insatiable Hunger, with this it's not going to happen often, but gods with dashes or jumps can still run away (if you don't use your Ultimate on then), it can be swapped for Frostbound Hammer too, for the Health that helps on your Survivability and Physical Power as a bonus, when i started with Bakasura i used this to not die so easily, but still, Hastened Katana will still be a superior Item.

Qin's Sais
Besides the good amount of Physical Power and Attack Speed, it's passive gives a nice extra Damage on every Auto Attack, especially on high HP targets and if you have high Penetration because it's passive is affected by Protections. It becomes even more effective with high Attack Speed ( that you will have with Bakasura.

The Executioner
That item gives you the Power, Penetration and Attack speed that are the best stats for a full power Bakasura, you can get it after Qin's Sais because high HP targets are a bigger problem than high Protections for Bakasura. You can get the stacks of The Executioner really fast and it gives valuable Attack Speed, making it superior than Titan's Bane for Bakasura, so The Executioner will be your go-to Penetration Item.

Asi
A cheap option for Lifesteal, Attack Speed and Penetration, but without Power, specially good option for the early game, but still valuable for Bakasura later on. The passive can turn the tides of a battle in your favor because of the sudden increase in Lifesteal.

Ichaival
A excellent item for boxing because it can give you a total of +30 Physical Power, +25% Attack Speed and +10 flat Penetration, besides reducing your enemies Power by a considerable amount specially earlier in the game. You could trade it for another item later, like Stone Cutting Sword or Bloodforge because it's passive becomes less relevant on the late game.

Silverbranch Bow
A sort of niche Item, to use it on it's full potential you need to get as much Attack Speed as you can, which is actually a viable strategy for Bakasura, however if you go for that you probably need to give up on a possible Defense Item, or buy one with Attack Speed, like Witchblade.

Atalanta's Bow
Can be a option if you feel like you need even further Movement Speed, the stats on it aren't bad at all too, although it doesn't replace Hastened Katana.

Odysseus' Bow
If you plan on doing a build based on Silverbranch Bow, this item should be a valuable option because of the high Attack Speed. The passive greatly benefits from high Attack Speed too, with more procs.

Stone Cutting Sword
Like Ichaival, that item has a pretty good passive for boxing and 1v1'ing that actually is valuable late game and can serve as a Penetration item, that comes with a very good +50 Physical Power and +10% Movement Speed.

Golden Blade
This one can greatly enhance Bakasura's already good clear, a great option for the early game as a second item, it gives Bakasura lightning fast jungle clear which can be specially valuable for denying the enemy jungler farm through counter jungling. The stats of the item itself are no pushover too, besides the fact it works on Regurgitate cone attacks.

Bloodforge
A luxury item that gives you very high Physical Power and some Lifesteal, with a passive that is awesome to pick someone in a fight then running away safely or proceding to your next target.

Magi's Cloak
Use this if you are having problems with some type of Hard CC that is one of the things that can easily kill you, like Frost Breath and Tectonic Rift, it gives a bit of Protections and Health that helps on Survivability too.

Frostbound Hammer
A decent option to stick to your targets and even have a bit of Utility with the Slow, with a better Survivability because of the Health boost. In most situations, Hastened Katana remains as the better option.

Alternative Build (Crit Based)

Relics

Skills

Insatiable Hunger

This passive is great it enhances your clean speed increasing your attack speed and gives a good mobility with the extra movement speed. It can help in ganks if you can keep it up.

Take Down

You can use this to harass jungle camps, initiate and finish gods with low health; but i don't recomend to use it to initiate your gank, i like to keep it for finishing or running away if something go wrong.Sometimes it can break the surprise effect too, don't even try to use it against someone with a dash, jump, etc. they going to use it right away. It's better to initiate with Regurgitate using your cripple for advantage and a better surprise effect. It can be used for dodge some attacks that are predictable(if you don't know you can't be hit while in the air, but ults like Fire Shards can still hit), an possible example is when you gank a Poseidon he probably going to do the Whirlpool + Release The Kraken! + Tidal Surge combo. So when you think he going to use it, jump on him. If made correctly he going to be damaged and have wasted his ultimate. Upgrade that last as you going to use it more as an escape and chasing than for damage.

Eat Minion

Your main sustain in the jungle(and solo too),you use it to stack minions for Regurgitate, you can use it to get a stack of your passive when chasing someone as Insatiable Hunger increases your movement speed and sometimes you can get a heal and some protections eating a lane or jungle minions this can save you in a bad situation. Upgrade it second just because Butcher Blades is more important.

Butcher Blades

Your bread and butter, this + The Executioner can melt guardians. Always use it when gaking for the extra damage, and before Regurgitate so you don't waste time using it in the duration of the ultimate, this skill even gives you some passive physical power. Upgrade it first for the true damage and passive power.

Regurgitate

This is your ultimate and unique type of hard CC bakasura have that is a cripple, and a slow(soft CC). With this you regurgitate a max of six minions that you eated with Eat Minions they can act as a meat shield for some hits and more rarely as a body block. If some god on the other team have any escape ability store this for him, but it's not mandatory. Examples are Agni, Neith, Scylla, among others.

Gameplay

Early Game

So at the start, you should proceed to get your Speed Buff, then clear the Harpies Camp close by, then i would recommend dropping the Mana Buff to the Solo Laner and the Power Buff to the Mid Laner, then you can go for others Jungle Camps and help one of the lanes if needed. It's a good idea to try and farm efficiently to hit Level 5 ASAP and have your Ultimate to Gank, Regurgitate with the 6 minions are a good Power Spike for a Gank, so you want to reach level 5 as fast as possible. Some other things to keep a lookout for: try to maintain control of the Mid Camps, they give valuable Gold and Exp; contest the Gold Harpies near the Gold Fury, they'll give you an Ward on that location, Map Vision is always good.

Mid Game

Now going to the Mid Game, continue doing what you were doing Early Game, but now, some Team Fights may happen, in team fights you should always try to target the Squishy Gods like the ADCs ( mostly Hunters ) and Mages, in that order of priority, but if for example the Mage is being an easier target than the Carry of the enemy team, you can target him, basically use the opportunity if it appears. And don't forget about Warding too, Rotations become frequent on the Mid Game ( see the Ward Locations Map for more info ). And now there is another Objective to look out for; the Pyromancer. It's Movement Speed Buff after leaving the Fountain that you get from killing it can be useful for faster repositioning of your team.

Late Game

Now it's all about Team Fights, Bakasura isn't the best team fighter because of how Squishy and Close Range he is, be careful with your Positioning on Team Fights and use your Cone Attacks of Regurgitate for better Range and a bit of AoE ( Area of Effect ), always trying to focus ADCs and Mages ( mainly the ADC because of how important he is, but they are powerful Late Game so be careful ). You can push Lanes and try to Split Push too ( proper Warding is extremely recommended for that ), but try to always be present on all Team Fights. Fire Giant should always have a Sentry Ward on it now, Gold Fury isn't too much relevant after Early-Mid Game.

Tips / Summary of Gameplay

- Use the clear and Sustain benefit of Eat Minion in your favor, especially Early Game
- Make good use of your level 5 power spike with Regurgitate
- Proper ward at all phases of the game especially at late game
- Prioritize important targets like ADCs and Mages
- The minions from Regurgitate can block some Auto Attacks and are useful for added Damage on Towers and Phoenixes too
- Use Regurgitate cone attacks wisely, they extend the Range of your Autos

Matchups

In this section i going to add some gods/things that synergize well or counters Bakasura. Bakasura benefits a lot from CC ( crowd control ) that can make enemies stay on place as much as possible, so stuns, roots, slows, cripple, pull are very good and knockback, knockup, grab ( if grab is used wrong it can throw the enemy away from your ult, if well used it's a ok cc for Bakasura ) can even disturb you. So the gods now:

Ares: It's an awesome matchup ( a duo lane Ares and Bakasura made a very good kill lane when Bakasura ADC was a thing ), ares has everything you need in one kit : his Shackles have slow and cripple that are very valuable to you, his No Escape has an awesome pull+stun that can make enemies steady on your ult, he even has some protections and cc reduction with Bolster Defenses that are helpful because of how much cc can mess Bakasura and his Searing Flesh can be useful to help to clean a wave when on duo lane.

Ymir:Other very good matchup with Bakasura ( that works very well on duo lane too ), ymir has a very solid stun with Frost Breath that can make enemies stay in place for 2.25 sec, enough time for you to burst someone down, Glacial Strike have a good amount of slow for a large duration that helps you to stick to your target.

Xing Tian: His ultimate Whirlwind of Rage and Steel works similar to ares No Escape for you; it's a setup for your ultimate. His other cc ability, Hook Slam, is useful for making enemies stuck on place. Another good duo lane option, with his Furious Roar he can help you with cleaning minions.

Counter Relics

Some relics that you should pay attention for because they are effective to use against you, so targets without access to it are easier prey.

Heavenly Wings: The main counter against Bakasura, with it they cleanse the slow from Regurgitate and can just outrun you.

Shield of Thorns: Another relic option that can be used against you, mostly effective on tankier targets, it will simply reflect your damage to you. How to counter it? There isn't really a way, you can just shred through it anyway, or stop attacking until the duration ends, depends on the situation.

Warding Locations, CounterJungling & Counter-CounterJungling

Warding Locations

Those are the places that i usually Ward, feel free to ward somewhere else if you think it's needed. Starting on the green circles, use those when you going to backdoor and when you don't want to get backdoored respectively; the red circles are for counter-counter jungling ( talking more about it on this section ); both grey circles are supposed to be support work to place but you can do it too anyway, they'll give vision of the purple buff; blue circles are for prevent ganks on mid lane and to have vision of mid camps; white circles are Gold Fury and Fire Giant, both should always be warded with a Sentry Ward mid to late game ( Gold Fury being more important early to mid game becoming kinda irrelevent late game, and Fire Giant is important mid to late game when you can actually kill it ), but if you contest the gold harpies you'll get a free ward there; and the yellow circles are used for counter jungling ( more information on it below ).

Counter Jungling

Basically, you get the buffs and camps of the other jungler, for it you need fast clean speed ( Bakasura Eat Minion ), an escape ( in the case of Bakasura: Take Down ) and Ward. The places that i recommend are the yellow circles, your support probably going to put the grey ward, but you can place here too.

Counter-Counter Jungling

This is the act of prevent the enemy jungler to counter jungle, putting the Red wards/circles so if he enter your jungle, your team or yourself can just finish/surprise him. And the Grey ward/circle should be support work but you can place it anyway as said before.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading the guide of Bakasura The Great Devourer, as i said in the introdution any tips and constructive criticism is very welcome, so i can improve this guide!

Build order is a bit dodgy, you're getting qin's third item.

DustZX (2) | March 10, 2019 4:36am
Oh yeah, you are right, i overlooked the fact qin's third item is not really optimal anymore. Adjusted the build.

Why not get Stone Cutting after Hastened?

Should mention that Golden Blade affects his ult as well. You can test it on the bots in Jungle practice.

Hey Dust,

Thanks for continuing to update this guide. Even though I do not play Baka very often, I like to refer to this guide for build ideas for Arena, Clash, and Siege.

Currently my favorite build is probably Ninja -> Katana -> Qin -> Rage -> DB -> Crusher

I am usually able to shred pretty efficiently and rack up enough gold to bring the build online quickly but I was wondering if you had any tips or suggestions to improve it? Thanks and happy feasting!

DustZX (2) | March 1, 2018 2:55pm
Hey DiabeticRage, for some time already, i have no internet on my house, so it's taking way longer for me to check on SmiteFire and update this guide properly.

Your build seems good, even if crit is not the optimal thing for bakasura, but it sure can work. I wonder if The Crusher passive works with bakasura Butcher Blades, if not, he doesn't have much ways to make use of the passive, so i would trade it for The Executioner ( for penetration ) or a defense item. Thanks for the support :)

ThanatosGaming | February 24, 2017 12:44pm
I simply build:
Warrior Tabi
Ichavial/Silverbranch Bow
The Executioner
Wind Demon
Malice
Deathbringer
Damage: +800 Crit
Attack Speed: 2.2
Not much Movement Speed tho...
Don't blame my noob build plz
1
DustZX (2) | February 24, 2017 4:35pm
If it fits your style it's alright :) . But if you want an opinion on it, i would trade Malice for Poisoned Star it gives some attack speed and the movement speed debuff from the passive will help you to stick to targets.

Actually i build it, specially on arena in place of Bloodforge but in conquest i like to get double crits and lifesteal but Qin's Sais is a option here too. I will add it together with Ichaival sometime, i just not added it yet because i plan on updating that guide on season 3.

Thanks for the comment, Dantebeetus.

tbh the Only reason I get Bumba's Mask on every assassin, except Thanatos, is cuz of it's passive and it's +10 MP5. I think that It's still viable on Bakasura, but I see your points on why Death's Toll is better.

Gonna try this out tomorrow when I get back from school. Hopefully I get 12/2 like I do with Awilix or Bastet. Kappa

+1 <3

Bumba's Mask it's a safer option than Death's Toll. But after some practice you get used to only use eat minions and Healing Potion for sustain.

Thanks for the comment, ThePerfectPrism!
