I've played, uh...
Not too many games with this build. I've only tried about two or so conquests, (one of which I got smoked in.) but I have done lots of Arenas! This build is FANTASTIC in Arena. You also should tell your team early on, you're not going tank, since this is hardly a tank build at all.
You'll sort of be useless here. It's recommended to be against a solo lane, (if possible) or against some lane without too much damage early on. A Poseidon will be your downfall this point in the game. The reason for 5 health potions is so you have the option to be crazy and go in hot. You'll get pestered, but you can heal up. Mana won't be too much of an issue, but you got those pots just in case. Creeping curse is great to use on this build, but won't be used too much here. If you're going to use Creeping curse at all, I'd suggest upgrading it before moving on, but you're fine without it.
Once getting the ultimate, try to use it in a team fight scenario, not for your own needs yet.
Two items will be... uh... questioned in this build. Void stone, and Sovereignty. First off, why question Sovereignty. Now for me, I'd rather play it more safe, and get the extra magic protection, (since you basically have none) instead of Mystical Mark. Now, getting Mystical Mark actually decides the void stone. You're going to be right close to the person, and your mystical mark will be doing extra damage for you. Do you want to get the ones that weaken their protections, so you're just all around hurting them more, or getting penetration in case you're attacking a tank. Personally, if you aim to get the penetration offspring of void stone, I'd skip out on mystical mark. If you're getting the protections decrease, I'd go for mystical mark. But it's all up to you. Magic defense isn't needed too much, since if you get up in their face, mages can't do a lot. That's why Poseidon is your bane. He has so much "help" right up in his face. All of his slows and movements and stuns just ruin you. That's why I prefer the Sovereignty.
Try to treat it as if you were Ao Kuang now. Waiting for someone else to go in. Your damage should be INSANE, and you should have no trouble killing one person. Gem of Isolation is great for a slow, and since you have so much cooldown, you'll be able to use your chains again shortly after your fire has ended. Your ult will also have a very short cooldown, and can counter all aegis and beads cooldowns. Feel free to use your ult to kill someone after your fire has ended, as by the time you pull them to you, your chains are off cooldown again. Your ult can also still be used in teamfights, but be careful, because you're very squishy. I try to be a little tanky in this build, so you'll never die 1v1, but if a few people are on you, you're dead. Creeping curse is used as another slow, if you want to use your combo, but your ult is on cooldown. Try to use that after your combo is done, so they're still slow, and your chains will be ready by the time the slow is off. This is also my first guide, so I'm sure there's something wrong with it.

I'm very well experienced in playing Ares and I've seen that if you are buying it to make use of his passive and gain magical power, you're definitely more suited to buy Rod of Tahuti. The Piece gives a total of 120 magical power (base + aura + Ares passive), but Rod gives a base of 125, in addition to the 25% third rank. Therefore, you're only buying it for the lifesteal (25 to Ares and 10 to allies). Magical lifesteal is pretty underwhelming, so it's not an ideal item for Ares.
I don't recommend you skip out on magical defense entirely if their is even one enemy mage. Void Stone is basically a requirement on Ares, if you get burned down before getting in range of using your abilities on a glass canon mage, they might as well be in their base playing I spy a moving bush. Without Blink, Ares has no mobility. Also, whether Ares is an "in your face" god or not, It only makes sense for him to use aura debuffs because of his ultimate. Most high damage AoE ultimates are magical, so it's Ares job to get them in that area.
Sovereignty is another amazing item on Ares. It provides a base of 65 physical defense and 450 health, plus the aura's 20 on both defenses (total 85 phys and extra 20 mag defense just for finishing it) and Ares passive 30 power. Defensive Aura items should never be questioned on Ares as they also give power.
You seem to be confusing Mystical Mark with Mark of the Vanguard in your item descriptions. Mystical is the aura item and provides 0 magical protection, Vanguard is the starter with 5 protection. Either way, it's hard to understand what your describing. Re-read your guide to make sure it's coherent and make remove the UH's (they're not professional and with a guide you want to sound like you know what you're talking about).
Lastly, even with this build Ares is not an assassin god. He is not squishy. At the very least this build is a bruiser build, but built right, Ares is already a bruiser and a tank (running into 5 enemy gods is still not a good idea though). Honestly, it just doesn't make sense to compare him to Ao Kuang and still call him an "In-Your-Face" god with this build.
