I will not likely change any items in my builds since I'm no longer active in the game and will be unsure of how new items or exsiting items work in game. Sorry for any inconvenience.
"Do you have time to talk about our lord and carry Ares?" - Sanity Forge
Playing with any God doesn't have to be complicated. Don't die or chase too much. Push with numbers. If you're feeding play the towers. Use your communications skills call MIA etc. your team will appreciate all these things. It doesn't hurt to encourage team mates and keep a positive attitude.
What's important is a low death total if none at all and high assists totals to know that you're playing Ares the way he should be played. Your team will be depending on you to initiate teams fights or gank possibly. Ideally you want to grab at least 2 enemy Gods at a time. Late game grabbing 3 to 5 Gods where possible.
If these details I've provided are not enough there are other guides to help piece it together for you. There are some details towards the bottom of this build I hope you find them useful.
All Builds: Look over the skill order I have set first before reading.

Since the introduction of this item I didn't think much of it but since more and more people have started to use it I decided it is something to be wary off.
Soul Reaver is powerful and hits hard. Giving the owner 100 magical power at maximum, it's passive is what makes it dangerous.
PASSIVE - When a god takes damage from your abilities, they take 15% of their maximum health in additional damage. If multiple gods are hit, the damage is applied to the one with the greatest maximum health. This can only occur once every 60 seconds.
Any mage using this item should be approached carefully. Definitely when in the hands of Anubis, Ao Kuang, Freya, Hebo, Poseidon & Ra.
The following guides I find useful and have a wealth of information. Some of the item builds I don't agree with and this is simply my opinion. For example items that have stacks for minion or Gods kills are difficult to boost. Also items that don't supplement Ares passive can be a detriment. To build the best Ares possible you should reference a couple sources. Good luck!

Now for my 2 cents about Smite. I haven't had the time to update as often as I like but to be honest I've also lost interest in the game steadily. I started playing during the closed beta of the game. I was an avid fan of Smite mainly because of its early Conquest map and the Assault game play. Which in my mind set it apart from other MOBAs at that time. The rapid changes to the Conquest map really took any fun out of it for me personally. The old style map was a pure lane versus lane game. With the changes now one sole assassin can dictate an entire game and jungle all game.
I'm merely a casual player but have played competitively in other games. I understand the new map has made the game more exciting to spectators with no shortage on ganks and things of that nature. In my mind the other MOBAs had always been assassin friendly and that's why I never bothered to play them. In the end I'd like to see a better balance returned to the Conquest map. I didn't play Smite for it to become similar to LOL or DOTA 2.
Aside from the map changes there are far too many people that rage in so called casual games also making the game unbearable. That's the end of my rant for now.. Thanks for reading.

@Repsol-The-First If you find my guide to be so terrible may I suggest you lend your expertise to the following guide for your consideration. #aresswag https://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/aresswag-arenaswerve-mylevel-360noscopeultblayzeit-3583
Also, I'd recommend putting witch stone at least as a situational item against lots of Hunters and Assassins etc. Also, there's no Eye of Providence in your build. It's quite a mandatory item, I must say.
The skills are... decent.. I guess. I mean, I never level up No Escape beyond level 1 untill I have no other skills to level, just because the only thing that scales is the damage which is almost unnoticeable compared to Searing Flesh and shcakles.
I'd recommend starting with Searing Flesh, then 2 points to Shackles, then 1 to Bolster Defenses and at level 5 one point to No Escape. From then, my priority shifts to: Shackles > Searing Flesh > Bolster Defenses > No Escape.
Also, copying the description from the ability itself to the guide is somewhat lazy and... iffy... And you don't explain very well the abilities and the combos as much as I'd like to see, for example; never engage if you've missed your Shackles, or that it's best to hit Shackles on as many enemies as possible.
You do explain some of the roles Ares has in the lane, but forget to mention some vital things, like how Ares is a lane bully. He is a poor defensive character. If someone's being aggressive to your Hunter, you'll have a hard time defending them as you have no immediate hard CC. But what you should do in lane is abuse your enemies. If you hit your Shackles you ca n totally ruin their life. The thing that unites Ares the most out of the rest of the tanks is the fact that he has tremendous damage potential, especially 1v1.
The so called 'God to watch out for' is also lazy. All you've done is copy the description of their ultimates. Nothing more. How is that going to help? give some tips & tricks, how to bait their ults etc.
This guide is OK. It's not a terrible one, I must say. You don't tell people to buy Warlock's Ring or anything like that, but it's quite a dull one.
All in all, I's a downvote from me. It's not enough.
Along with the "gods to watch out for" list, you might want to make a note that Ares does have the ability to cripple gods with his Shackles (rendering dash and jump reliant gods such as Fenrir weakened).
