Introduction:

hey guys,

in this guide i will discuss 2 different kinds of builds, that in their own respective ways work with Anubis. The first will be a standard build, and the second is a tanky build (yes, anubis can tank... sometimes),

in this guide i will discuss each item chosen for the different builds in detail, and explain to you why each of them work, and when to choose either one of them, by considering your teams composition, and the enemy teams comp. (you can't forget you have to look at what the other team builds it is crucial in order to determine what you build)

***Note - this build was written on the 4th of feb. 2013 many of the items can change! do not relay purely on this guide in the future, things are likely to drastically change! (the game is still in beta many things will change!)

skills

Skills for Anubis are universal no matter what kind of item build you decide to go for, it would of been different for a focus build, but focus has been recently nerfed to only apply to 3 items in the shop so... don't build focus!

When playing with Anubis you want to max your grasping hands (3) first, its great for farming, apply's a slow to the enemy, and does decent damage, since its so great for lane pushing.(it will eventually one shot minions, as long as you lead it correctly) it will also really help you with stack building, in the beginning of the game.

Put one point into your mummify (2) at level 2 but max it 3rd, this is due to the fact that the stun doesn't increase drastically as you level it.

you max your plague of locusts (1) 2nd, but only start putting points into it at level 4, since its good to start maxing out your 3 first for farming and pushing purposes.

add points to death gaze (4), your ult, whenever possible, it deals massive damage at every stage of the game, you do not want to let it fall behind!

standard item build

I call this a standard item build not only because it always works great with Anubis (which it does!) but also because it's pretty much a universal build for any mage in the game.

Bancroft's Talon:
stat link - http://www.smitewiki.com/Bancroft's_Talon

i recommend buying tier 2 of Bancroft's Talon first because for the money you spend you gain massive amounts of magic damage (bang for the buck!). its passive is also very good for the early game since gods tend to be more squishy then. (except for Sobek his a tanky little *******) you gain more magic damage by getting hurt and for anubis, the guy who likes to stand still while attacking (idiot) this works incredibly well.

Boots of the Magi:
stat link - http://www.smitewiki.com/Boots_of_the_Magi

Magic + caster + boots made for magic casters = ...... profit!

well lets face it you weren't going to get any other boots any way... but the order in which you get them does matter, you buy them second, as explained above, but don't buy the 2nd tier of them after you finish your talon, the passive from talon's tier 3 is important, only then get tier 2, for anubis i do recommend getting the 3rd tier of the boots right off the bat because the passive on them is very good for anubis and he tends to be a natruley slow god (big surprise...) so having the boots finished helps him out a lot.

aegis amulet and sprint:

i suggest getting these two actives for anubis for reasons stated above; the first is that anubis is one of the slower moving gods (anubis is a wolf by the way... great logic hirez...) he needs to be able to get in and out of a situation as fast as he can and boots are the easiest way to do so, they have also been called the get out of jail free card by many people, simply because they are so good for gettin away. getting aegis will help you out since as a caster you will be focused (alot!) and one way to trick the enemy into spending all their abilities without you taking damage is by being invulnerable, and since AOE is the slow wolf's worst enemy you need to have someway to dodge attacks!

Void Stone:

Stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Void_Stone

Void stone is an item that gives you both magic damage and protection which is very important for any caster, you do sacrifice some damage for the added protection, but it pays off with it's passive, since it's an aura that reduces the enemies magical protection, and being a magic damage dealing god... that would be pretty beneficial, it's pretty much an AOE magic penetration, which is very useful when dealing with tanks (especially sobek, he's a tanky little *******)

gem of isolation:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Gem_of_Isolation

gem of isolation is incredibly useful for anubis not only for cheap get away's by slowing the enemy but also becuase it has the potential to keep the enemy in your grasping hands for longer make it deal damage for longer, but also allowing you to easily hit the enemy without an issue of them running around like hyper rabbits trying to avoid your abilities. its magic power is also really good but you're mainly getting it for the passive, which is amazing!

obsidian shard:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Obsidian_Shard

congratulations! you have now made it to the part of the game where you cant hurt tanks (especially sobek, his a tanky little *******) and squishy gods have realised anubis is an irritating slow wolf and have decided to go for magic protection, which renders good old wolfy (not the RG guy) useless. well... obsidian shard to the rescue, it gives you great penetration (against their stupid annoying armor) and some power as well, putting you well on your way to dealing true damage (Truth!)

rod of tahuti:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Rod_of_Tahuti

Rod is a pure magic damage item, but it also costs a lot and early game is not worth the money (it is a late game item!) it gives you great magic damage stats and it's passive increases your entire magic power by 25%, it's probably the best magic item in the game if your going for power, and since you got all your penetration over with, it is now good to concentrate on power. (i would tell a witty joke here but i can't think of one so... fart)

if you have gotten to this stage of the game (i pity you for spending so much time in one game) then you now have to concentrate on getting those weird little potions you never buy, start by getting potion of magical might, and then save up for elixir of power, both increase your power exponentially.

if you are still in the game and have done everything i told you... have fun... (that's a very time consuming game.. you should rage quit!)

tanky item buid

unlike what most people think anubis can tank! and he is quiet good at it, its all a matter of choosing the right items. so if you want to be an annoying little bugger and poke the **** out of your enemy (though you'll never get to sobek's level, he's a tanky little *******) listen here!

mark of the vanguard:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Mark_of_the_Vanguard

if you are going as a tank you need the mark! it is an incredibly overpowerd tank item. that basically allows you to do whatever you want to a certain extent form level one (except for sobek he can do whatever he wants however he wants, he's a tanky little *******) although you wont be getting any damage out of it, it is extremely cheap and allows you to go for sustain rather then burst.

Reinforced boots:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Reinforced_Boots

tank boots + tanky anubis = ... profit! and i recommend actually finishing your boots before you go on to your 3rd item because the passive for them (30% reduction of all crowd control) is really important for our slow/likes to stand in one place while attacking friend here.

Void stone:

see explanation above :)

if you go as a tank i recommend getting aegis amulet and purification beads since it allows you to keep calm and tank on!

bulwark of hope:

stat page: http://www.smitewiki.com/Bulwark_of_Hope

this item is probably the best magic tank item in the game, it gives you great stats for tanking and the passive (if you are below 25% health it gives you a shield that reduces 50% of all damage for 1 second) may and will save your life! because of this it is an important item to get, even if the enemy team has no magic damage, simply for the passive.

warlocks sash:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Warlock's_Sash

this item has recently been changed to stack for health (stacks up to 100 which is easy to get to with anubis) because of this it gives you some good magic damage (which you probabaly desperately need at this point of the game, but also gives you extra life which is very important as a tank to have, and it also goes well with bulwark of hope, since if you have more health 25% gets bigger making the passive pop up at a better time, rather then just before your about to die.

wall of absolution:

stat page - http://www.smitewiki.com/Wall_of_Absolution

speaking of magic damage, this item is a must for any migic tank. it gives you physical protection which is very good to have against certain gods (im looking at you loki, and your ******ed burst) but it also gives you some good magical power which is important to have as a magic god.

well now you are at the point of the game where you have 6 items, great! but you still have mark of the vangaurd which is purely an early game item and is horrible late game, so go ahead and throw that garbage a way and get yourself a real item!

hide of the leviathan:

stat link - http://www.smitewiki.com/Wall_of_Absolution

this item gives you great physical and magical protection, which is very important to have, especially late game where everyone has their build done, and are ready to burst you down like the piece of thin paper you are. the passive also goes along really well with your boots, which giives you 30% crowd control reduction, so in total that's 60% cc reduction! that is a lot!

when you get to this point of the game always remember to get the potions, magical might first then save up for elixir of defense. have fun being a tanky little ******* :D though you can never get on sobek's level, he's the real *******!

tips and tricks

if your 1v1 never be afraid to initiate, as long as the enemy has no beads nor aegis you will probably melt him like butter. speaking of beads there is a way to trick your opponent into using them prematurely during the laning phase, use your combo (mummify into grasping hands) and then act like you are going in to ult but instead use your 1, it will trick him into using his beads, wasting them, not wasting your ult, and give you plenty of time to go in for the actual combo kill during his beads cool down time.

if you are being chased by more then one person, run into the jungle and throw down grasping hands at your feet, they will have no other option but to walk on it if they want to keep chasing you, which will slow them, but if it's only 1 person chasing you, you should only run if your abilities are on cool down if they are not then quickly mummify his *** lay down the hands and melt him with your 1, late game it should kill him or at least encourage him to run away making you the pursuer and him the scaredy cat!

and last but not least, anubis does not! have a team fight presents, he is very easily targeted and very easily killed the only thing you can do with him is wait patiently, throwing down your hands occasionally and wait for an opportunity to melt one of them or four.. i once got a quadra kill with him without really paying attention, he pretty much plays like a caster version of loki, he deals a ton of burst but is very easily killed!

hope the guide helped :) its my first time writing one :)
