I have been playing Anubis pretty much all the time since I started Smite.
Anubis has great damage output and if you play right, he has a strong early-game (also depending on your team, and opponents.) And he's also good late-game.
After playing Anubis for some time, I have found this build to be the overall best for me.
But this build is pretty risky.
You will be the glassiest of glass cannons.
No armor, and full damage output. But with decent teammates, this shouldn't be a big problem.
First lets talk about the items.
You should get meditation, and Tier 1 boots, and 5 health pots in the beginning.
You should also pick up aegis or beads, considering Anubis doesn't have any skills to escape combat unless it's a 1v1.
Finish building your boots for magical power and movement speed and then buy a warlocks sash.
Its important to get the sash item early, because it stacks up to a 100. And that will take some time, so its good to start stacking in the laning phase, and not the clusterfu** phase later on.
After this you should pick up Chronos' Pendant. Anubis' is one of those Gods that are defined with their ulti. Even tho he can deal tons of damage without. But you having this items means more ulti, that again means (hopefully) more kills.

Next up follow the "Later opt.1" or "opt.2."
The spear of the magius, is really nice to have because you penetrate allot of armor early game. And the obsidian is pretty useless early if the enemy team doesn't have allot of protection, because it's percentage based. Later on you might want to switch it up, depending on the amount of armor the enemies have, but usually the spear should be enough, if you get help taking down the tanks.
But if for a reason the enemy team has like 4 tanks with a lot of magic prot, get the Obsidian shard.
After this, get the Rod of Tahuti, because... well... a ton of magical power.
Do not get this item too early in the game tho. You will get some magical power from it, but it's passive is useless if you dont have other magical items. And the passives from the other items are really nice to have as well.
Later on you can get the gem of isolation. Its a nice item to have because it slows (more). And this will make it easier for you to aim your skills. And ofc. more magical power.
If for some reason the enemy team doesn't have any magical protection, buy the gem first, then the rod then the spear / shard.

The situational items...
Like mentioned before, you should get one of those 2 active spells, with meditation. Just for extra safety. Or sprint if you want (i personally dont like it.)
If you dont want/like the magic penetration items, or the gem of isolation, The book of Thoth is a nice substitute. Also, if you know you want to buy this item. Get it early on because of the stacks. Its not a must but in my experience, its better.
Ive also put wards here. First I just need to say, you should always consider warding strategically to help your teammates with the battle.(Even tho the mid lane isn't the main warder in the battle) But if you find yourself with teammates that are incapable to call out "MIA", dont waste your time arguing with them, just ward the the jungle around you, for your own benefit, so you can see yourself if enemies are coming to gank you.
And remember, "It's not a waste of money, if it keeps you alive"
(For places to ward, check out other guides)
The skills:
Just get / upgrade the ulti every time you can. Anubis without an ulti, is a glass cannon without the cannon part.
First, take a point in grasping hands. It works great for farming early game, and it's allot safer than to farm with Plague of Locusts. Also, it actually ends up doing a ton of damage, and like I mentioned, it's safe.
After that, take a point in mummify, or plague. Mummify, if you want to harras/be able to get away easier. Plague, if you have the need to clear minions faster.
Either way you should have one point in each at lvl 3.
After that, you need to put more points in grasping hands, for awesome farming, and some points in mummify for longer stun duration to combine with your ulti.
Later on, start putting points in plague, so you can do more damage when your ulti is on cooldown.
The first i do, is I usually follow the guide here. I might switching some stuff some times, but usually I stick to what i know.
Play passive early on. Some other gods have some really hard burst damage early on, if they get you in their sights.
Try to only use grasping hands, so you don't waste your mana before the meditation cooldown is finished.
Also, only use grasping hands on a full minion wave. You can put one at the most forward one, when they are walking in that line, and use your basic attack to push them back in it.
Always hit as many as you can, if the enemy god is nearby you can try to target him too. But early game, the minions are the priority.
And like I said, only use one grasping hands per wave. The rest your minions should help you finish off, together with your basic attacks.
After you get your ulti is where the fun begins. Try to poke him down a little with grasping hands first, and when he has some hp missing, stun him, then ulti. <<< Basic Anubis play.
If you don't hit on the stun, you have to make a decision. Don't expect to hit on every tick , but if he has very low HP, you can try to finish him off.
Later in the game, when the stun duration is longer, you can try to stun, then put grasping hands on them, then ulti.
This works very nice, because they take extra damage, and are slowed after the stun is done.
And after your Chronos' pendant is up, you should start ganking other lanes, if you have mid under control.
______________
Now, there are some things you should watch out for. After you get your ulti, it's easy to play aggressive, and Anubis doesn't really have any ways of getting away easy from ganks.
So don't over extend, and hope for teammates that are able to call MIA. ( And being in the mid lane, you are quite exposed to ganks from both sides )
1v2+ with Anubis is doable, but hard with this build (early game) You can use you Grasping hands for AOE damage, but enemies can simply walk out. Mummify can only stun one enemy, and you don't have many points in Plague early. So try to avoid any big "hero" fights unless you are incredibly fed.
Anubis is great for ganking other lanes, when you have your ulti up. You can easy take one enemy out in one of the lanes (as long as you don't target the tank first.) And your teammates should be able to help you take the rest out.
_______________
And that pretty much sums it up for now.
This is my first guide on this site. If you have any comments, suggestions etc. let me know.
Hope you enjoyed this, and good luck playing Anubis.
