Introduction

Amaterasu is a decent solo laner but her real prowess is in team fights. Her heal allows her to sustain for extended periods of time. The auras give everyone on your team the edge over their respective opponent. She silences enemy gods allowing for devastating ganks and her ultimate causes destruction among any opposing team.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
-High sustain capabilities
-Team fight champion
-Two auras
-Self heal
-Decent lane clear
-Devastating passive
-Stun (4)
-Silence (3)
-Tanky

Cons:
-Easily outlaned early if missing moves
-Weaker early game heal than other solo laners
-Kill potential is relatively low while assist potential is extremely high

Abilities

Illuminating Strike (Passive): Landing basic attacks puts stacks on opponents that allow you and your teammates to do up to 10% more damage to that god and any enemy nearby. I don't know of a better passive for a basic attack God.

Divine Presence (1): This is your heal. Every time this is activated you gain up to 50 hp plus a fraction of your physical power. It also switches your active aura. Yellow aura should be the primary until engagin an enemy because it gives straight movement speed up to 25%. Red aura should be used whenever in combat as it gives a flat buff to power (both magical and physical) to you and any nearby teammates. If low on health it is smart to switch back and forth between auras so as to activate your heal and get back to the fight as quick as possible.

Heavenly Reflection (2): This is your main minion clear. After 5 seconds a beam shoots out in front of you doing damage to all it hits. During that time try to do damage, you can also take damage but meh, in order to build up to a "Full Charge". At full charge this move will do double the damage so clearing waves should, theoretically, take you no more than 5 seconds. You can also trigger the release early if needed. Using this moves also grants damage mitigation so that you are able to go up and basic the wave without taking too much damage.

Glorious Charge (3): This is your dash and silence. When used, a flash of light silences everyone in front of Amaterasu and then she dashes in that direction. Pretty straightforward, difficult to master the timing of the charge since the silence happens immediately before but practice makes perfect.

Dazzling Offensive (4): This ult is killer. Three consecutive dashes in any direction and a cone-shaped hit area make this an excellent initiating move, chase move, or general team fight move. If you hit an enemy with all three hits you will do easily 1000+ damage, slow anyone hit with the second bounce and stun anyone hit with the third bounce for 2s each. Simply devastating.

Items

Starter Items
Death's Toll: This item is great for any solo laner (or carry who needs some sustain also) because it gives +6 health and +1 mana every successful basic attack.

Breastplate: Most solo laners are physical and so this item will give you that extra sustain against your opponent. This is also a stepping stone into Breastplate of Valor.

Multi Potion: This is just a good all around choice because it gives mana which will help with the sustain along with your blue camp and the health is an added bonus onto your Divine Presence (which won't be getting serious points put into it until later into the game).

Main Items
Breastplate of Valor: Cooldown items are 100% needed in any Amaterasu build and this is the best way to get it. A huge chunk of extra mana and big physical defense make this the optimal choice for sustaining.
There is really no substitute here but if you wanted something else the only other option is Jotunn's Wrath because it is the only other item for physical gods with 25% cooldown.

Warrior Tabi: Boots are a necessity. Period. Might as well have some power on them too.
One could argue that Ninja Tabi would be better because of Amaterasu's Passive but less power means your heal will be doing less as well as all damaging moves.

Ancile: This item will max out your cooldown, give some much needed magical defense (for team fights), power to give a slight boost to your moves including your heal, and health as you kill minions. All in all this item has more benefits than any other cooldown/sustain item.
If you are looking for more protection than Spirit Robe will also work for maxing out your cooldown as well as giving the damage mitigation when hit with a crowd control.

Frostbound Hammer: Mid-to-late game this item, along with Amaterasu's passive, helps team fights swing your way significantly. The extra health and power are super beneficial as well.

The Executioner: Attack speed is not necessarily needed on Amaterasu but it will help in team fights both by applying your passive quicker and lowering opposing tank's and solo laner's defenses. If the other team is super squishy then I sometimes swap this out and get Hastened Fatalis just to help dodge enemy attacks while bouncing around hitting basics in a team fight.

Hide of the Urchin: This final item could really be any defensive based item but for the most part I get the Hide because it covers both protections and gives a boost to health and mana.
If the other team has a superior healer than I substitute in Pestilence or Brawler's Beat Stick instead of Hide.

How to Lane

Your 2 is your main clear. That's why it gets upgraded first. Until you put a third or fourth point into it your opponent will most likely be able to clear quicker than you, but you are made for the mid-to-late game so that's okay.

Make sure that the minion waves are about to engage before you begin anything to avoid unnecessary damage. The way I go about clearing waves is 1 3 2 AA (unleash 2) 1 and then back out. This is assuming you start in speed stance. This way you will switch stances to get more power for your attack and have a heal going, then I use the dash targeting the other God so as to silence them for that crucial second and get your wave cleared first with your 2 and auto attacks. The silence works very well against gods, like Tyr, who have to line up the wave to take it out because you will damage the whole wave while silencing your opponent. Make sure you are attacking after you pop your 2 otherwise you won't be doing as much damage when you fire it (obviously fire down the wave of minions or if it's pretty much cleared, aim it at your opponent). Finally hitting your 1 again will get your heal going again as well as giving you speed to either back up or chase your opponent and be prepared for the next wave.

Team Fights

This method against waves works just as well in team fights when your 4 is on cooldown. If you do have your 4 then you have some options. Your 4 makes for a great initiator when a team fight is inevitable. The area damage, quick movement, and third hit stun forces the opposing team to separate, allowing your team to focus squishies, or get a nice stun that allows your team to drop some fast and heavy damage. If a team fight has already begun then saving your 4 for a chase is also a good tactical decision.

Besides your 4, you want to make sure you are focusing basic attacks on one god until you see that your passive has taken affect. Not only will this make that individual weaker it will also affect everyone around them (yes even minions). I find it smart to target the enemy teams tankiest god first with your basics, that way they will be around for the entire fight and you won't have to keep attacking different targets because your passive activates on someone who dies in three hits.
