Yes, but it starts with the extra gold from a kill. How can you make that kill easier to obtain, and then how can you maintain that lead in terms of what gods are on your team. I don't care WHO is playing the god, but what god are they playing, and how does it fit into the team?

patience determines who's gonna get that first kill imo.

They are playing all the gods. No joke, they play every single god. I have seen Lassiz take everysingle god that is in the game and go mid and he wins that lane 99.99% of the time most of the time without the need for ganks. You out play them and you out think them by pushing correctly and forcing the other god(s) to miss the shots. You can play the worst god or the OP god, you miss your shots your god is worthless now.

Okay, we've gotten wayy off topic from what I originally wanted to discuss. But apparently that has yet to exist in this particular game. So instead, topic changed to counterpicks. Yes, personal skill is the ultimate factor, but is there anyone with a kit that shuts down another god's kit? like... maybe Cupid's heals counter the DoT of Ao Kuang's tornado (not sure, but perhaps?) Where a skill in one god's kits negates anything a skill in another god's kit does.

Art's Boar. Other than that the way you counter a god is to dodge his skills. As of right now there is no "A ability stops B ability"
Have to remember that right now Smite is still beta and ALL of this can and will change. The best thing you can do is learn who has what and how long it lasts on CD. Force them to use something and then unload on them.

Lets take Ra mid for example. He is currently, assuming that everyone is SAME skill level and do not dodge anything at all. Ra is the easiest god to pick up and he is considered the strongest mid. This is partly due to his double beam procing and his heal. CC wins fights, I agree with that, but with Ra you can just overpower the other guy and force him to sit at his tower while you slowly damage that tower and push that lane.

Just to actually reply to the topic here...

Imo Ymir and Ares makes a damn fine team in a lane.
Ares builds like Ares should, TANKY(!) while Ymir builds a "Glass cannon" build(maxing out magical power)
their ulti combo gives almost certain kills throughout the game.
Early game few stands tall through Ymirs ulti, follower by a freeze/wall and Ares throwing in some chains and fire. Me and a friend tried that out just to test it...ended up with me(Ymir) getting a pentakill using my ulti(which at the point(not including magical resistance) did 2400+dmg) dishing out every single one of them :)

Honestly just about anyone works fine with Ares :P
Hit me up for some SMITE games, I use the same in-game nick as I do here :)

The problem with that lane combo, your creep farming for that is terrible and you end up sitting at your tower most of the game against non bad players.

Since this topic was started, and thn got necroed the meta has changed some.

Mid is usualy a strong pusher / mage that throws out heavy damage in a fast burst.
Left is usually a bruiser and a support god
Right is your carry and a tank.
